I’m back to the incomparable Nameberry for ideas and help in creating a list of possible names for our second child. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I are going to start trying soon, which lead us to discussing names. [name_f]My[/name_f] mind went completely blank! I feel like we blew it all out naming the first one, I’m not even sure where to start now.
I need help deciding if we should go with the same “formula” for the second which is Family name for the first name + Meaningful Irish name for the middle. Or do we do something else like Irish first name, virtue middle name… ?? Should I stick with the era of the first name… ?? I’m just completely lost.
[name_m]Frederick[/name_m] [name_m]Lochlainn[/name_m] is my son’s name.
For girls I was thinking:
[name_f]Maisie[/name_f]
[name_f]Francesca[/name_f] nn [name_u]Frankie[/name_u]
[name_m]Maguire[/name_m] (Which was our “if it’s a girl” name the first time around. Her nn would be [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]. We thought it was a way to do Irish, but still be somewhat unique. Plus it sounded like [name_u]Morgan[/name_u], a name I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] but can’t use.)
[name_f]My[/name_f] husband likes boys names for girls. insert all eyerolls here But that’s why I thought maybe [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] would be cute. I was trying to think of other long, extravagant girl’s names that had short, cute masculine nicknames, but am coming up short there. I don’t love [name_f]Danielle/name_f or [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f]. Or [name_f]Harriett[/name_f]… Plus, I don’t want to name a sweet little girl [name_m]Harry[/name_m]. Uhg. I don’t know. There’s always [name_u]Charlie[/name_u], I suppose.
For boys combo first and middles I have:
[name_m]Albert[/name_m] nn [name_m]Albie[/name_m]
[name_m]Charles[/name_m] nn [name_u]Charlie[/name_u]
[name_u]August[/name_u] nn [name_u]Gus[/name_u]
[name_m]Fergus[/name_m]
[name_m]Dermot[/name_m]
[name_m]Hamish[/name_m]
[name_m]Griffin[/name_m]
[name_m]Henry[/name_m] nn [name_m]Hank[/name_m]
[name_m]Harold[/name_m] nn [name_m]Harry[/name_m] (would also just do a nickname name here)
[name_m]Thomas[/name_m]
[name_m]David[/name_m]
[name_u]Dexter[/name_u]
[name_m]Walter[/name_m]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m]
[name_m]Seamus[/name_m]
[name_u]Finn[/name_u] / [name_m]Finbar[/name_m]
[name_m]Mack[/name_m]
[name_m]Bravery[/name_m] (which doesn’t fit anywhere really, I just like it)
And girls ([name_m]Frank[/name_m] is too close to [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] I think)
[name_f]Georgina[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] nn’s [name_u]Georgie[/name_u] or [name_f]Gigi[/name_f] or [name_f]Gina[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] nn [name_m]Al[/name_m]
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f] [name_f]Greer[/name_f] nn [name_f]Immy[/name_f]
[name_f]Anthea[/name_f] [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] nn [name_f]Thea[/name_f]
[name_f]Cressida[/name_f] [name_f]Marianne[/name_f] nn Cress/ie sounds unisex
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_u]Bay[/name_u] nn [name_f]Emma[/name_f]
You have wonderful naming sense, I’m sure you’ll come up with something great when the time comes, don’t worry!
…based on your list a few that came to mind…
[name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] or [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] nn [name_f]Madge[/name_f]
[name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] nn [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] or [name_f]Etta[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] nn [name_u]Josie[/name_u] or [name_u]Jo[/name_u]
[name_m]Tobias[/name_m] nn [name_u]Toby[/name_u]
[name_m]Vincent[/name_m] nn [name_m]Vince[/name_m]
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m] nn [name_m]Archie[/name_m]
I wouldn’t do [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] and [name_m]Fred[/name_m] personally because they seem too similar…
Thanks for the input! I see what you both mean by [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] being too close to [name_u]Freddie[/name_u]. I’ll likely take that off of my list.
[name_m]Albert[/name_m] [name_u]Finn[/name_u] is on my list. [name_m]Archie[/name_m], unfortunately, is our dog’s name. We kick ourselves all of the time for not saving it! [name_u]Vinnie[/name_u] is my nephew’s name. [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Walter[/name_m] is adorable, and I love [name_m]Angus[/name_m], too. And how cute is [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] [name_f]Greer[/name_f]!? [name_u]Love[/name_u]. Thank you!!
Keep the suggestions coming!! You guys are the best!
Some more ideas for girl names with boy nicknames:
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] nn [name_u]Rory[/name_u]
[name_f]Sybil[/name_f] nn [name_u]Billie[/name_u]
[name_f]Theodora[/name_f] nn [name_u]Theo[/name_u]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] nn [name_u]Mattie[/name_u]
[name_f]Augusta[/name_f] nn [name_u]Gus[/name_u]
[name_f]Leonora[/name_f] nn [name_m]Leo[/name_m]
[name_f]Philippa[/name_f] nn [name_m]Pip[/name_m]
[name_f]My[/name_f] favourites from your boys list are [name_m]Albert[/name_m], [name_m]Charles[/name_m], [name_u]August[/name_u], [name_m]Hamish[/name_m], [name_m]Walter[/name_m], [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], and [name_m]Harry[/name_m]. For the middle name, I like the idea of using another Irish name or a virtue name ([name_m]Bravery[/name_m] would be a cool middle).
We’ve narrowed our list quite a bit. Let me know what you think of these, and please add comments / suggestions.
Boys
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_u]Finn[/name_u] or [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] nn [name_u]Theo[/name_u]
[name_m]Albert[/name_m] [name_u]Finn[/name_u] nn [name_m]Albie[/name_m]
Girls
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f] [name_u]Lake[/name_u] or [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] [name_f]Greer[/name_f] nn Idgy
[name_f]Maisie[/name_f] [name_u]Lake[/name_u]
[name_m]Maguire[/name_m] ______ ?
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] are my favorites. [name_f]My[/name_f] son’s mn is [name_m]Lochlainn[/name_m] and so that’s why I’d like to use [name_u]Lake[/name_u] for a girl’s middle. Plus, it sounds very classic to me, like [name_f]Kate[/name_f].
And, darlingdoe, thank you so much for the great list of boys nicknames for girls! So creative!
