Hello all! DH and I are trying for baby #2. DD is [name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and she will be 2 next month. We had a hard time naming her and I’m going to have the same issue this time around – so I might as well start early. Last name is Russian and starts with an S. Ideally, I think we’d like to keep the same short and sweet like DD since our last name is long (3 syllables).
Here are some names I like so you get a sense our style:
GIRLS
[name_u]Bristol[/name_u]
[name_f]Holly[/name_f] (My top name, tied with [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Vera[/name_f])
[name_f]Lily[/name_f]
[name_f]Vera[/name_f]
[name_u]Sloan[/name_u] (DH’s favorite, I’m NAF)
[name_f]Luna[/name_f] (was a contender when naming DD)
[name_f]Mila[/name_f] (was a contender for DD, but niece’s name is [name_f]Melia[/name_f], DH’s cousin’s DD’s name is [name_f]Melina[/name_f] – kinda feel like we’re just chopping off letters at this point)
[name_f]Virginia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Ginny[/name_f] was a contender for DD but we decided not to use it.
[name_f]Elena[/name_f] was DD’s original name pick but we opted out. Could be a contender this time around. (My g-ma’s name was [name_f]Helen[/name_f].)
BOYS
[name_u]Emmett[/name_u]
[name_u]Luca[/name_u]/[name_m]Luka[/name_m] (My top boy name)
[name_u]Reid[/name_u] (One of DH’s favorite, I’m neutral to it)
[name_m]Fraser[/name_m] (love this name with [name_f]Isla[/name_f] but I don’t think it’ll work well with our last name)
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is lovely.
Here are my thoughts on your lists:
GIRLS-
[name_u]Bristol[/name_u]-Meh, I’m not a fan of this one. It doesn’t have a pretty sound to me at all, & is just kind of trendy.
[name_f]Holly[/name_f] (My top name, tied with [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Vera[/name_f])-Very very sweet. It’s cheery, simple, kind, a little sporty & has beautiful botanical imagery. It’s also not very over done, but is very well know. A great fit w/[name_f]Isla[/name_f] too.
[name_f]Lily[/name_f]-I love this name too. It’s similar to [name_f]Holly[/name_f], except way more popular.
[name_f]Vera[/name_f]-I still can’t personally get into this one, but it’s still quite nice. Simple, vintage & not too common.
[name_u]Sloan[/name_u] (DH’s favorite, I’m NAF)-I like it a lot spelled [name_u]Sloane[/name_u]. But scrap it if you don’t.
[name_f]Luna[/name_f] (was a contender when naming DD)-This isn’t my favorite. Very trendy for humans and absurdly common for dogs for some reason.
[name_f]Mila[/name_f] (was a contender for DD, but niece’s name is [name_f]Melia[/name_f], DH’s cousin’s DD’s name is [name_f]Melina[/name_f] – kinda feel like we’re just chopping off letters at this point)-Beautiful name, but it’s too close to [name_f]Isla[/name_f] anyway.
[name_f]Virginia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Ginny[/name_f]-Fun! This is unique yet classic. I really like it. Could also do [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] or [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] nn [name_f]Ginny[/name_f].
[name_f]Elena[/name_f]-I like this a lot, & it would work well as a sister to [name_f]Isla[/name_f].
Girl suggestions-
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f]
[name_f]Celia[/name_f]
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f]
[name_f]Delia[/name_f]
[name_f]Eve[/name_f]/[name_f]Evie[/name_f]
[name_f]Eva[/name_f]/[name_f]Evie[/name_f]
[name_u]Eloise[/name_u]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]
[name_f]Freya[/name_f]
[name_f]Gemma[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f]…[name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] or [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] nn [name_f]Gwen[/name_f]
[name_f]Hattie[/name_f]
[name_f]Juno[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Lena[/name_f]
[name_f]Mira[/name_f]
[name_f]Mara[/name_f]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Sofie[/name_f]
[name_f]Tessa[/name_f]
[name_f]Thea[/name_f]
[name_u]Vida[/name_u]
[name_f]Zella[/name_f]
BOYS-
[name_u]Emmett[/name_u]-This is good. Kind of gentle, kind of sporty. Simple yet not over done, & a little Gaelic like [name_f]Isla[/name_f].
[name_u]Luca[/name_u]/[name_m]Luka[/name_m] (My top boy name)-I love it! Very artsy, soft & a little mysterious. I prefer the [name_u]Luca[/name_u] spelling.
[name_u]Reid[/name_u] (One of DH’s favorite, I’m neutral to it)-Yeah, it’s not super exciting.
[name_m]Fraser[/name_m] (love this name with [name_f]Isla[/name_f] but I don’t think it’ll work well with our last name)-Too bad. It’s kind of cool.
[name_m]Lincoln[/name_m] (DH’s favorite, I’m NAF)-Meh, me neither.
[name_u]Owen[/name_u] (like but don’t love)-I like it, but scrap if if you don’t love it.
[name_m]Wyatt[/name_m] (like but don’t love)-Same as above.
Thank you for your suggestions. The ones I like are below. We can’t use [name_f]Chloe[/name_f], [name_f]Eve[/name_f]/[name_f]Evie[/name_f], [name_u]Jude[/name_u], or [name_u]Nico[/name_u] because we have family members with those names.
When pregnant with DD, I offered [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_f]Celia[/name_f], [name_f]Gemma[/name_f], and [name_f]Tess[/name_f]/[name_f]Tessa[/name_f] to DH and he vetoed all of them!
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f]…[name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] or [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] nn [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] (DH might go for this bc of Spider [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] – we’re big into [name_f]Marvel[/name_f])
[name_f]Hattie[/name_f]
[name_f]Lena[/name_f]
[name_u]Arlo[/name_u]
[name_u]Ellis[/name_u] (This name is a potential MN!)
[name_m]Ronan[/name_m]
If we have a boy, potential middle names are [name_u]James[/name_u] (after my dad), [name_m]Vito[/name_m] (after my grandfather) and [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] (DH’s pick).
I also have to comment that I’m glad you like [name_m]Fraser[/name_m]. It’s my top name, but with our last name it just doesn’t flow plus we’ll have to go through more pronunciation questions lol is it [name_m]Fraser[/name_m], as in [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] [name_m]Fraser[/name_m] from Outlander (how I would pronounce it) or [name_m]Frasier[/name_m], like the TV show. I did a poll on another site and it was split 49%/50%!
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is gorgeous! I think [name_f]Holly[/name_f] and [name_f]Vera[/name_f] work really well with [name_f]Isla[/name_f] and are lovely names in their own right. I love [name_f]Lily[/name_f] too and it sounds nice with [name_f]Isla[/name_f], but I know I would get my tongue twisted with that many "l"s in the sibset and ending up calling for [name_f]Lilah[/name_f]. This may not a concern for you.
My top pick for you would be [name_f]Holly[/name_f], compatible, familiar but underused, and distinctive in sound. It could also be a nod to [name_f]Helen[/name_f].
I really like the suggestion [name_f]Gwen[/name_f], [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f], or [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] as well. I will add the suggestions of [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Helen[/name_f] and [name_f]Alina[/name_f] possibly nn [name_f]Lina[/name_f] or [name_f]Lena[/name_f]. Another idea for you that might fit your style is Kiera.
Of your choices for boys, I love [name_u]Emmett[/name_u], [name_u]Owen[/name_u], [name_u]Luca[/name_u], and [name_m]Fraser[/name_m] for you. If [name_m]Fraser[/name_m]'s not good with the surname, you have lots of other great options.
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is beautiful!
[name_f]Holly[/name_f], [name_f]Vera[/name_f], [name_f]Elena[/name_f], [name_u]Emmett[/name_u], & [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m] are my favorite from your list
I’m a total [name_f]Marvel[/name_f] Universe super nerd myself my husband however is not these were some of the ideas I had come up with
I like [name_f]Vera[/name_f] and [name_f]Elena[/name_f] best with [name_f]Isla[/name_f]! [name_f]May[/name_f] I also suggest [name_f]Keira[/name_f] (this is my daughters name and [name_f]Isla[/name_f] had been a top contender for her as well!).
For boys I like both [name_u]Luca[/name_u] and [name_u]Reid[/name_u]/[name_u]Reed[/name_u], you can’t really go wrong with any of your choices! Good luck
