[name]Just[/name] hypothetical, not expecting right now.
Any suggestions on a good name if [name]Matilda[/name] has a little sister? I liked [name]Matilda[/name] because it was something a little bit quirky/unusual (here in the US at least) while at the same time being very classic - a name that everyone knows. I also liked its literary namesake in [name]Roald[/name] Dahl’s [name]Matilda[/name].
So I’m trying to come up with another girl name that will be along those similar lines that would go well with [name]Matilda[/name]. I have one or two ideas but am curious to see what others will suggest!
Oh, also it has to go with the middle name [name]Pearl[/name].
Well [name]Matilda[/name] is one of my favourite girl’s names so I’ll just list my other favourite girl’s names…
[name]Arabella[/name]
[name]Emmeline[/name]
[name]Beatrix[/name]
[name]Imogen[/name]
[name]Persephone[/name]
[name]Pandora[/name]
[name]Ottilie[/name]
[name]Valentina[/name]
[name]Hermione[/name]
[name]Alice[/name]
[name]Winter[/name]
[name]Willow[/name]
[name]Eden[/name]
[name]Elspeth[/name]
[name]Eloise[/name]
[name]Tabitha[/name]
[name]Felicity[/name]
[name]Georgina[/name]
[name]Harriet[/name]
[name]Rose[/name]
[name]Autumn[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Daphne[/name]
These names come to mind because they are kind of old-ladyish, but cool, and some have great nick name possibilities:
[name]Millicent[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Lavinia[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Anastasia[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Tabitha[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Eugenia[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Lucinda[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Wilhelmina[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Dorothea[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Eudora[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Rowena[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Marjorie[/name]/[name]Margery[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Winifred[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] or [name]Eleanora[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] or [name]Aveline[/name] [name]Pearl[/name], since [name]Evelyn[/name] is actually quite popular
I really like [name]Alice[/name], though my husband did not like it last time when we were picking names.
[name]Harriet[/name] - this is a name that is growing on me lately. I at one time would’ve said this name was really ugly, but now I’m starting to see it in another light.
[name]Lavinia[/name] - This name has not been on my radar before. I actually like it. I feel like [name]Lavinia[/name] could be the new [name]Olivia[/name]. But I don’t know if it feels right with [name]Matilda[/name].
[name]Rowena[/name] - I like this name, but admit I’m not really sure how its supposed to be pronounced. [name]Ro[/name]-WEEN-a? [name]RO[/name]-wen-a? ro-WEN-a?
The two that came to mind were [name]Abigail[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name], because both are classic and in the same vein as [name]Matilda[/name], but they may not be unique enough for you. What about [name]Martha[/name]? Arguably too close to [name]Matilda[/name]. You could do [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Lucy[/name], [name]Alice[/name] or [name]Tabitha[/name].
[name]Matilda[/name] & [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] is absolutely perfecto!
I like these names with [name]Matilda[/name]:
[name]Ramona[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Gwendolyn[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Virginia[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Margot[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
I adore [name]Matilda[/name]. [name]Do[/name] people often call her [name]Tilly[/name]? A family member had a bird named [name]Tilly[/name] so I have never been able to lose that association and I HATED that bird.
The first thoughts that came to mind were:
[name]Harriet[/name] (another literary character that I love)
[name]Beatrice[/name]
[name]Clementine[/name]
[name]Rosemary[/name]
[name]Florence[/name]
[name]Prudence[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name]
[name]Audrey[/name]
Thanks for the suggestions so far!
Maybe good, maybe not so good - a lot of these are names that I have had on my list.
I’ve tossed around the idea of [name]Beatrix[/name], but in the end I don’t think I’d use it.
[name]Ramona[/name] and [name]Margot[/name] got serious consideration. I keep coming back to [name]Ramona[/name]. I sort of love it, but then the more I say it out loud the less sure I get. But yet I keep coming back to it. I think [name]Matilda[/name] and [name]Ramona[/name] are great on paper.
[name]Gwendolyn[/name] is a little too frilly/fancy sounding. But I do like the idea of [name]Gwendolyn[/name] nn [name]Wendy[/name].
And my [name]Matilda[/name] isn’t old enough for friends etc to have spontaneously given her nicknames, so nobody calls her [name]Tilly[/name]. But I have had people ask if I call her [name]Tilly[/name] or if I call her [name]Matty[/name]. But I just tell them no, its just [name]Matilda[/name]
I have one friend who flat out told me that she didn’t think she’d keep calling her [name]Matilda[/name] because its too long! Ha. So I said if she had to be called by a nickname I guess I’d prefer [name]Tilda[/name], because its the most similar to [name]Matilda[/name].
