Does it bother you when siblings have names of different lengths?
I have this thing where the syllables/letters don’t matter but the names have to look the Same length when written down, I don’t know why but that just seems to be how my brain works
Anyway, my real question is if you had two children with similar length names, would you ever name a third child something of a different length?
E.g. If you had [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] & [name_f]Clara[/name_f] or [name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_m]Miles[/name_m] and [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f]??
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with different lengths, as long as the names match stylistically. Sisters named [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], [name_f]Adelina[/name_f], and [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] would be a little off, [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], and [name_f]Clara[/name_f] work well in style with each other, even though [name_f]Clara[/name_f] is a little shorter. I probably wouldn’t do two four syllable names and the a one syllable one such as [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], and [name_f]Jane[/name_f].
Not at all. I have a [name_u]Sage[/name_u], when I was pregnant with him, I was drawn to mostly one-syllable, “minimalistic” names. For our next child, I’m adding a bunch of long names to the list, like [name_f]Celeste[/name_f], [name_f]Seraphine[/name_f], [name_m]Aeneas[/name_m], etc.
If you really love the names, it shouldn’t matter… the names that I like are not the same length and some of them have more syllables… for example, [name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m] and [name_f]Bethia[/name_f] have the same amount of syllables but [name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m] is longer. It just depends on your preference because if they are your kids, your opinion matters most
I think name lengths are important but not a decisive factor. I don’t mind [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] & [name_f]Clara[/name_f] or [name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_m]Miles[/name_m] and [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] as sibsets…
But for example my brother and I… My name is [name_f]Carolina[/name_f] and my brother’s name is [name_m]Pedro[/name_m]. [name_f]Carolina[/name_f] and [name_m]Pedro[/name_m] would not be my favorite sibset but I gotten used to it and now thinking of my brother with a longer name is weird.
So, it depends…
[name_u]Kai[/name_u] and [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] is confusing to me, so I think of Kailand and [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] with the nicknames [name_u]Kai[/name_u] and [name_f]Vivi[/name_f]!
Name length matters but it doesn’t ruin sibsets, it just might make you think you need to do some adjustments…
I have a [name_m]Xander[/name_m], [name_f]Maia[/name_f] and [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and their names are all different lengths but I think it works, imo. However, I do get what you mean and it’s the same for me. I do like to keep the length of sibsets similar but I don’t think it’s something to lose sleep over, either. To me, [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Lily[/name_f] look rather disproportionate but [name_f]Eve[/name_f], [name_f]Mollie[/name_f] and [name_u]Aidan[/name_u] is fine.
I consider myself to be fairly fussy when it comes to sibling names, but length doesn’t really come into it for me.
For me it’s all about the names having the same style/feel to them (so no [name_f]Moxie[/name_f] and [name_f]Carol[/name_f], unless she goes by something snappy like [name_u]Caro[/name_u]), and not repeating sounds too much (so [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and [name_f]Eve[/name_f] or [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] and [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] would be out). Despite these examples being of the same length on paper, they just don’t work as sibling names to my ear.
I have a daughter with a short name, but there are lots of longer names I also love and wouldn’t have a problem using. I’m a natural nicknamer, so all of my long favourites have shorter, snappier nicknames which I would probably use just as often, or more often. It is important to me that I love at least one nickname for a longer name before I’ll consider using it, but that’s more to do with making sure my child doesn’t end up called something I dislike, rather than wanting my children’s names to match in terms of length.
Honestly, I think I actually prefer a range of lengths in a sibset - it gives variety.
