Our son’s name is [name_m]Otis[/name_m], and we are expecting another boy. We like uncommon names, and our top contender right now is [name_m]Maceo[/name_m]. [name_m]Both[/name_m] are names of musicians ([name_m]Otis[/name_m] [name_m]Redding[/name_m] and [name_m]Maceo[/name_m] [name_u]Parker[/name_u]), so we like that connection. I like the name, but its origin is Spanish or Italian, and we are neither. I’m also just not sure about using such an uncommon name. [name_m]Otis[/name_m] is uncommon, but everyone has pretty much heard of it. [name_m]Maceo[/name_m] is even less common. I think it’s a cool name, I am just not sold on it. So, would love any suggestions that would go with [name_m]Otis[/name_m] (or, if you like [name_m]Maceo[/name_m], then please chime in, too!). Thanks!
[name_m]Maceo[/name_m] is cool, but I definitely understand your concerns about it being obviously Spanish/Italian-sounding and if you aren’t blatantly either, it could look a little weird.
Have you consider [name_m]Miles[/name_m]? As in [name_m]Miles[/name_m] [name_m]Davis[/name_m]? It’s one of my top names and I love [name_m]Milo[/name_m] as well.
I also thought of…
[name_u]Lyle[/name_u]
[name_u]Lionel[/name_u]
[name_m]Rupert[/name_m]
[name_m]Leo/name_m
[name_u]Alfie[/name_u]
[name_m]Simon[/name_m]
[name_m]Beau[/name_m]/[name_u]Bo[/name_u]
[name_u]Arlo[/name_u]
Options if you like Maceo:
Mateo, Matthias, Maxum, Maverick nn Mack, Merrick, nn Mack
Maddox, Maddock, or Marshall
Maxwell, or use Maceo in the middle or use Parker as a middle name.
Marcus could also work.
Parker is a great first name.
[name_m]Otis[/name_m] and
[name_m]Miles[/name_m]
[name_m]Davis[/name_m]
[name_u]Arlo[/name_u]
[name_m]Amadeus[/name_m]
[name_u]Dexter[/name_u]
[name_m]Donovan[/name_m]
[name_u]Guthrie[/name_u]
[name_u]Lionel[/name_u]
[name_m]Louis[/name_m]
[name_m]Rufus[/name_m]
[name_u]Sullivan[/name_u]
[name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m]
I’ve not heard of [name_m]Maceo[/name_m] before, but I like it, and think it goes ok with [name_m]Otis[/name_m]. The musician connection is pretty awesome. As far as suggestions go, I second the suggestion of [name_u]Lyle[/name_u]. I love the idea of [name_u]Lyle[/name_u] and [name_m]Otis[/name_m] as brothers. I want to add
[name_m]Felix[/name_m]
[name_m]Marius[/name_m]
[name_m]Simeon[/name_m]
Thanks for the suggestions! I do love the name [name_m]Miles[/name_m], but [name_m]Miles[/name_m] and [name_m]Otis[/name_m] is just too close to ‘[name_m]Milo[/name_m] and [name_m]Otis[/name_m]’, the movie…
Another question: does it really matter if we use a name from another culture? Again, [name_m]Maceo[/name_m] is Spanish or Italian in origin. We are neither, but would it be okay to use it anyway?
I like the suggestion of Lyle. It’s interesting without being strange. Otis & Lyle
Marco would be super cool, too. And you wouldn’t have the spelling/ethnic concerns of Maceo. Otis & Marco

Hmm… I don’t like [name_u]Lyle[/name_u]. What about [name_m]Grant[/name_m]? Not sure my husband would go for it as he is pretty set on [name_m]Maceo[/name_m]…
Yep, as I suspected, my husband said no to [name_m]Grant[/name_m] right away… I do like [name_m]Maceo[/name_m], but I just want something a bit more common this time around.
[name_m]How[/name_m] about
[name_m]Mace[/name_m]
[name_u]Mason[/name_u]
Me again. The first name we picked for #2 was [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m], but then I just decided I didn’t like it and then we picked [name_m]Maceo[/name_m]. But I’m starting to reconsider [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m]. What are your thoughts - [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m] v. [name_m]Maceo[/name_m] as a brother for [name_m]Otis[/name_m]? Other considerations are below. Please vote! (it would probably be simpler to make a poll at this point?)
