Our DD is [name]Gabrielle[/name]. We call her by her full name as well as Gabs, [name]Gabby[/name], Gabba, Gabilicious, Gabradoodle. and many others. So, with number 2, should it also be full of nickname possibilities? DH likes short names this time around that don’t leave any nn options. I don’t want the set to seem lop-sided - like “[name]Gabrielle[/name] & [name]Anne[/name]” or “[name]Gabrielle[/name] & [name]John[/name]”. What do you guys think?
Nicknames arise so naturally, they come from any name. Honestly, would anyone think a common nickname for [name]Gabrielle[/name] is “Gabradoodle?” They come from personality traits, singsong games, words the baby first calls him/herself when learning to speak… every name, even if it’s [name]Io[/name], has loads of possibilities.
Perhaps for the sake of compromise, opt for a long mn that has nn options? I wouldn’t think [name]Anne[/name] and [name]John[/name] would pair nicely with [name]Gabrielle[/name] though…two syllables may be the best way to meet in the middle.
I know a sibset of [name]Gabrielle[/name] and [name]Rebecca[/name]. In general - now that I think about it - most sibsets I’ve heard of seem to have names with equal syllables. So yes, I’d pair [name]Gabrielle[/name] with a three or two syllable name.
I say go with a name that you love. I agree with a pp, nicknames will arise naturally.
I like the idea of short names along with big sister [name]Gabrielle[/name]. But whatever you choose is up to you. [name]Gabby[/name] and [name]Annie[/name] sound very cute together. [name]Johnny[/name] and [name]Gabby[/name] as well.
This was about what I was going to say
If you have that many nicknames for her, you’ll find nicknames for an [name]Anne[/name] (or similar). We have oodles of nicknames for our dog, whose name I would’ve previously thought unnicknamable!
P.S. [name]Blade[/name], maybe I’m thinking of someone else, but have I seen you mention [name]Io[/name] a couple of times lately? That’s one of my faves
- edit- no, I was thinking of someone else!
I agree with previous posters in saying that nicknames come naturally. We had no intention of calling our son Smurf or smurfy but our 2 year old daughter cannot say [name]Murphy[/name] so he goes by Smurfy [name]Murphy[/name]. [name]Don[/name]'t worry about it, Im sure a nn will come along!
