Sidney? And any other help you can pass on- please read!

Down to the wire here, due in less than a week! My husband and I have no real names going in if this baby turns out to be a girl. There are names I’ve posted about previously, some I’M keeping in mind and some HE’S keeping in mind but none that we’re on the same page with.

I thought of [name_u]Sidney[/name_u] today, a name I always liked, and was trying to remind myself why I’ve never considered using it. First and foremost I always thought it too trendy, but in reality I don’t know any Sidneys of any age so I think I could move past that. My other concern was the association to the main character in the SCREAM movies… Is that too strong a namesake?? The movie did terrify me when it came out!

For anyone who’s bored and in a true name nerd mode, I’d love some general name suggestions (other than just feedback on [name_u]Sidney[/name_u]). I’m really starting to stress about the naming process rather than enjoy it. My stepson is [name_u]Mason[/name_u] and my daughter is [name_f]Brenna[/name_f]. Our last name is similar to [name_u]McCarthy[/name_u] ad I guess I’m just curious what names any of you experts would fill in the blank with. I am feeling so fried and just feel like I need a clear head and a fresh new list of ideas.

Sorry to be a bother and thanks for whatever help you can offer!

I like [name_u]Sidney[/name_u]. I actually forgot all about the movie Scream until you just mentioned it.

Off the top of my head and without having read your other posts yet I’d suggest:
[name_u]Avery[/name_u]
[name_f]Addy[/name_f]
[name_f]Lyra[/name_f]
[name_u]Jules[/name_u]
[name_u]Grey[/name_u]
[name_u]Hayden[/name_u]
[name_u]Bailey[/name_u]

I’ve never seen “Scream,” and I think [name_u]Sidney[/name_u] is fine.
Other suggestions:
[name_f]Ashling[/name_f]
[name_f]Eva[/name_f]
[name_f]Laurel[/name_f]
[name_f]Lily[/name_f]
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f]
[name_f]Zoe[/name_f]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f]
[name_f]Coral[/name_f]
[name_f]Kira[/name_f]
[name_f]Willow[/name_f]
[name_f]Willa[/name_f]
[name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
[name_u]Rory[/name_u]

OK so I just read a couple of your older posts. It looks like you are looking for something a little less modern than your other children with a hint of Irish. You might like:
[name_f]Caitlin[/name_f]
[name_f]Kathleen[/name_f]
[name_f]Ashlynn[/name_f]
[name_f]Aileen[/name_f]/[name_f]Eileen[/name_f]
[name_f]Erin[/name_f]
[name_u]Casey[/name_u]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]
[name_u]Finley[/name_u] (possibly too “modern” but I like it)
[name_f]Taryn[/name_f]

Thank you both for your responses! I feared the names
[name_u]Mason[/name_u] and [name_f]Brenna[/name_f] would make my taste appear “trendy” but I actually dislike the [name_u]Avery[/name_u], [name_u]Hayden[/name_u] [name_u]Peyton[/name_u] style (if that makes sense). I don’t care for [name_u]Bailey[/name_u] but [name_f]Hailey[/name_f]/[name_f]Hayley[/name_f] is one we’ve considered.

Also love [name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] but my husband does not. [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] is a contender and [name_u]Rory[/name_u] I feel fits our bill but I find it so hard for many kids to say!

Thanks for the feedback on [name_u]Sidney[/name_u] as well. It’s one to consider… Keep the help coming, we need it!

Jessicat, thanks so much for taking the time to brainstorm! I’ve let go of the Irish requirement because I found it so difficult (many names already on our families). I like [name_f]Ashlynn[/name_f] but wonder if it says Irish to most, or if it says “made up?” I also like [name_u]Finley[/name_u] but it was just used for a cousins baby. [name_f]Taryn[/name_f] is one I am really considering… Again fear it looks like I made it up but I love old fashioned [name_f]Tara[/name_f] and he vetoed it- maybe this could be a compromise…

Again thanks SO much

[name_u]Sidney[/name_u] sounds nice with [name_f]Brenna[/name_f] and [name_u]Mason[/name_u]. And I don’t think the Scream association would be a problem. I wouldn’t have noticed it if you hadn’t of pointed it out.

[name_f]Hayley[/name_f]
[name_f]Lila[/name_f]
[name_f]Annaliese[/name_f]/[name_f]Annie[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
[name_f]Coralie[/name_f]
[name_f]Emelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Nola[/name_f]
[name_f]Hannah[/name_f]
[name_u]Eden[/name_u]

There was a local news anchor named [name_f]Taryn[/name_f] [name_m]Asher[/name_m], I’m not sure if she is still reporting. I liked her personality so I’ve held a soft spot for the name [name_f]Taryn[/name_f].

To me, [name_u]Sidney[/name_u] is a male name, whereas [name_u]Sydney[/name_u] is a female name, so if you’re going to use it as a FN, I feel that [name_u]Sydney[/name_u] would ve a better option (:
If you like classic names, how about putting something a bit more timeless as a first name l, and use [name_u]Sidney[/name_u] as a middle name?
For example:
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_u]Sidney[/name_u] (I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] this combination!!)
[name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_u]Sidney[/name_u]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_u]Sidney[/name_u]
[name_f]Isabel[/name_f] [name_u]Sidney[/name_u]

I hope these help! Good luck!!

If you use it, please use the [name_u]Sydney[/name_u] spelling. It’s more accepted as the feminine spelling and [name_u]Sidney[/name_u] is known to be used mostly on boys. If I saw a young [name_u]Sidney[/name_u], I would assume it was a boy thanks to the Pittsburgh Penguins player [name_u]Sidney[/name_u] [name_m]Crosby[/name_m].

I adore [name_u]Sidney[/name_u]: I always thought of it with the spelling [name_u]Sydney[/name_u] though (probably because it’s where I live, and that’s the only reason neither of my 2 girls have the name).

I second the [name_u]Sydney[/name_u] spelling. It’s a fine option.
I also really like [name_f]Zoe[/name_f].
[name_f]Taryn[/name_f] is kind of charming.

I like [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] best as a name on its own. As a sibling to [name_u]Mason[/name_u] and [name_f]Brenna[/name_f]…I think all work about equally!

You’ve probably considered many/most/all of these but just to throw a few more out that I think that would fit, many or Irish, work with the sibs and last name to me…

[name_f]Aileen[/name_f]
[name_f]Bridget[/name_f]
[name_f]Caitlin[/name_f]
[name_u]Darby[/name_u]
[name_u]Darcy[/name_u]
[name_u]Devon[/name_u]
[name_f]Erin[/name_f]
[name_u]Fallon[/name_u]
[name_u]Fifer[/name_u]
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
[name_u]Harper[/name_u]
[name_f]Isla[/name_f]
[name_f]Kathleen[/name_f]
[name_u]Keely[/name_u]
[name_u]Keeva[/name_u]
[name_f]Keira[/name_f]
[name_u]Kelly[/name_u]
[name_m]Kerrigan[/name_m]
Liadan
[name_f]Maura[/name_f]
McCall
[name_f]Moira[/name_f]
[name_f]Molly[/name_f]
[name_f]Nell[/name_f]
Nelligan
[name_f]Neve[/name_f]
[name_f]Nola[/name_f]
[name_f]Orla[/name_f]
[name_u]Piper[/name_u]
[name_u]Quinn[/name_u]
[name_u]Regan[/name_u]
[name_u]Riley[/name_u]
[name_u]Rory[/name_u]
[name_u]Shannon[/name_u]
[name_f]Siobhan[/name_f]
[name_m]Teague[/name_m]
[name_u]Tegan[/name_u]
[name_u]Tierney[/name_u]

I think most people would know that [name_f]Ashlynn[/name_f] and [name_f]Taryn[/name_f] aren’t made up. I’d spell [name_f]Ashlynn[/name_f] [name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] or [name_f]Ashlen[/name_f] though. [name_m]Just[/name_m] personal preference. I also love [name_u]Sidney[/name_u], though I’d spell it [name_u]Sydney[/name_u] since [name_u]Sidney[/name_u] seems more masculine to me. Scream didn’t even occur to me.

Agree with [name_u]Sydney[/name_u] for a girl, [name_u]Sidney[/name_u] for a boy.
