Silas for a girl?

What do you think? It would be as a middle name after [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]. In Greek it means [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] or Woods.
I think it’s so pretty, but just looking for other opinions

I would never use [name_m]Silas[/name_m] for a girl because it has a clear masculine sound and history of use. It will work (I mean, everything that is not prohibited can work, but should it?), but I’d advice going with another name. Save [name_m]Silas[/name_m] for the hypothetical son you might have one day.
What about [name_f]Sia[/name_f]?

Is that a long I or like s ee a

I like it! I see no issues and it’s a lovely name.

As a middle name I think it is fine.

[name_f]Cyra[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylvana[/name_f], [name_f]Silvana[/name_f], [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f], [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f], [name_f]Sylvaine[/name_f] (also means woods)

As a middle name, I definitely think it works.

And just a question: Does your middle name happen to be [name_f]Jane[/name_f]? Because my full name is [name_f]MacKenna[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f], and it would be pretty weird/cool to find someone with the same name!

[name_m]Just[/name_m] no!! [name_m]Silas[/name_m] is a boy’s name and does not work as a girl’s name.

[name_m]Just[/name_m] no

Yes yes yes! It does work. Almost all names can and should be gender reversed. Seriously, people need to get over it. In the end, a name is just some letters, or a word. It’s not something that should be so frowned upon and so hated. And it’s not just trendy, it goes way back, people have always done it to an extent. [name_m]Silas[/name_m] sounds like a very pretty girls name  I’d love to see it on one!

BNOG and GNOB have long inspired me and my choices and also has put a breathe of fresh air into names I’d otherwise not like at all or any more. So what if some people don’t like it, eventually more and more will have to accept it as it simply is getting very common these days. I hope it gets even more common and therefor, normal.

( Seriously… names do NOT come with some huge huge list of do’s and don’ts no rules. Who made names but man himself? So if one time this name was made and someone decided it had to be for a certain gender well then that is it?? It’s crazy to think that way I think. )

I like [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] just as much

Very unappealing for a girl.

[name_m]Just[/name_m] no…

Names have an origin, they aren’t just letters.
(Many words and names have a gender. I know they are not associated to a gender in [name_u]America[/name_u], but names are not American… They are hebrew, greek,…).
An etymologist or linguistics professor would die haha.

I doubt that. Are you either?

The simple point I was making was that they all originated by man. It was one person at one time who decided which gender they feel the name belonged to. I don’t think assigning things a gender rule like that is ok or necessary, I think people need to get over their unnatural fear of this.

I have only heard [name_m]Silas[/name_m] in real life as a last name so I do not associate it with either gender, very nice for a boy or girl.

Have you heard the song “A Boy Named [name_f]Sue[/name_f]”?
If you think a name is just a string of letters, then maybe you should let someone else name the baby.

Many names switch gender over time. Before [name_f]Shirley[/name_f] [name_u]Temple[/name_u] became famous, [name_f]Shirley[/name_f] was a man’s name. But once a name becomes popular for girls, very few would then choose it for a boy. Life is hard enough without parents being the cause of tears. [name_u]Peri[/name_u], fae, faery and fay are all words that mean fairy. I think naming a boy one of these would be cruel.

Back to the question: [name_m]Silas[/name_m] for a girl?
[name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] also has the same meaning (woods or forest) so why use [name_m]Silas[/name_m] which reminds me of silage (grass or other green fodder compacted and stored typically in a silo and used as animal feed in the winter).

[name_f]Silvia[/name_f] is an Italian female given name of Latin origin, with English-language cognate [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f].
The name originates from the Latin word for forest, “silva”.

I think [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] is the current popular version.

I like it. It could totally work.

I agree with @britkarma on this topic.

I like it, it’s cute! If you love it, go for it!

I don’t think it flows well with [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]

Yeah, [name_m]Silas[/name_m] or maybe [name_m]Harvey[/name_m]. NOT!
