Expecting a little girl in [name_f]January[/name_f], and my hubby mentioned that he thought it might be nice to find “a name that starts with 'S-I-L-V… Like [name_f]Silvia[/name_f], but not”
I’ve looked at lists of names like [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f], [name_f]Silvia[/name_f], Silviette, and just don’t like any of them… He said he thought we could invent our own name by combining two existing ones, like adding “ette” or “enne”, or something. We already have one daughter with a name that ends ending in “enne”. Basically, I think he’s looking for something that sounds silvery, maybe wintery?
Any and all suggestions welcome! And it doesn’t even have to include the “silv” beginning; just have some similar feels to it, maybe. Invent away!
Have you come across [name_f]Silva[/name_f] / [name_f]Sylva[/name_f]? I know you probably won’t like it but just wondered. I don’t really like [name_f]Silva[/name_f] as it’s too close to the silver and feels like a misspelling, but I love [name_f]Sylva[/name_f]. Bit more streamlined / less frilly / old lady that [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f].
A lot of names that mean silver are in the [name_m]Ari[/name_m]- family, and by extension a lot of names that share this prefix / these sounds feel silvery to me, even if they don’t actually mean silver.
[name_f]Isolde[/name_f] and variants mean [name_m]Ice[/name_m] princess / ruler / battle. I love [name_f]Isolde[/name_f], but I also like really like the Cornish variant [name_f]Eseld[/name_f].
[name_f]Eilona[/name_f] - actually means oak tree /shining light but feels spikily frosty to me, possibly because of the Ei- like the eir / eira names.
Wintry names from other cultures -
[name_f]Lumi[/name_f] - Finnish for snow
Mjoll - fresh powdery snow
Hmmmm, I do think Silvenna would be pretty! I don’t think its a name but the suggested [name_f]Sylvana[/name_f] is. [name_f]My[/name_f] due date was [name_f]January[/name_f] of this year and before I knew we were having a boy, we talked about winter ish names too. I liked [name_f]Lumi[/name_f] (like luminescent) [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] / [name_f]Perla[/name_f], [name_f]Winter[/name_f] / [name_f]Wynter[/name_f], and [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]
Congratulations!! It’s an exciting theme too! Some names that have a silvery sheen (inspiration was the silver of starlight, moonlight, purity, dewdrops,
ice and running water) to me are:
[name_f]Gloria[/name_f] or [name_f]Gloriana[/name_f]
[name_f]Gossamer[/name_f]
Chalcedony
[name_f]Silva[/name_f] (looks more feminine this spelling to me)
