Similar names?

How similar do names have to be to not allow them on your list… because of another name? For example, I’ve always avoided Rory and Ronan on my list since Rowan is one of my favorite boys’ names… but somehow Eoghan (which is said like Owen, lol) has somehow also made it onto my list. :joy::joy:

Clearly I don’t have any sort of continuity with it! I have Eleanor and Eleni on my list… but always hesitate to have more than one Belle name on my list since Isobel is my favorite.

It’s been on my mind today because I am hardcore crushing on Arabella today… and am just curious on everyone else’s stance on this. How much do you care about similar names on your list? And how cringey is it to have Isobel, Adele, and Arabella on the same list? :joy:

Thanks, berries!

I have [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f], [name_f]Sylvaine[/name_f], and Sylvestra… I’m not the best person to answer this question.

[name_f]My[/name_f] list is just a running list of every name I like, so it has a lot of very similar names. But I am actually having children so my list is practical for actually naming real children rather than just a list for fun. So when going through names with my partner sometimes they will prefer one “version” of a name over another and if I’m ok with either then I’d rather keep them both on my list rather than potentially throw out a name that we could’ve used. For example, I have [name_m]Ronin[/name_m], [name_m]Roman[/name_m], and [name_u]Romy[/name_u] all on my list and bf loves [name_m]Ronin[/name_m], is ok with [name_m]Roman[/name_m], and hates [name_u]Romy[/name_u]. If I had chose only one and scratched off the others then we could’ve potentially lost out on a name that I like. First thing we did when going over my list was picked out all the similar names and picked which one we prefer out of the set.

I have two lists!

One of all of my favourite names and variations, for example [name_u]William[/name_u], [name_m]Willem[/name_m], Wellan, [name_u]Wilder[/name_u]

and another for actually naming a baby since we’re ttc, where i don’t allow repeats like that!

I’ve come to the conclusion that since I’m not planning to have many (if any) kids, that I’m allowed similar names on my list. I’ve got [name_m]Sholto[/name_m], [name_m]Otto[/name_m], [name_m]Draco[/name_m] and [name_u]Shiloh[/name_u] on my boys list and I’ve kind of just accepted it since I find boys names so hard
