Similar parent-child names

If my name is [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f], is it OK to name my kid [name_f]Celestina[/name_f] or [name_f]Melusine[/name_f]? (Because -ina and -ine endings)

It’s just a example, my name is not Sabrina, but I have similar name and it bugs me, since I love some -ina and -ine endings.

I think so. I’ve often thought the same about [name_u]Alva[/name_u] and [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] considering my name is [name_f]Olivia[/name_f].

I don’t think it would cause too many issues though?

My name ends in -ia, and I wouldn’t hesitate to name my daughter an -ia name if I loved it (and I do love a lot of them :p). It’s fine.

I think it depends on the exact names being considered, however, I doubt most people would even clue in and who cares? The only place people will see your names all lined up together is holiday cards. As long as you’re comfortable with it, that’s all that matters. Sons are named directly after their fathers quite often and no one bats an eyelash. I think mothers should pass on their names or subtle nods to their names, more often.

I think it would be a fun connection to your daughter. I have a name on my list that can be used as a formal name for my name.

I don’t think your example was too similar. Same or similar beginnings or endings are fine, but I have a friend [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] who named her baby [name_f]Colette[/name_f], and that particular match looks to similar for my liking.

Having a similar ending would be fine, especially with an -ia or -ina ending because they are common endings for girls names. Now, when it’s like [name_f]Lauren[/name_f] and [name_f]Laura[/name_f] - then it’s too similar for me, but what really matters is what you like and what you want.

It’s fine. I know parents and children who have much more similar names than that. I wouldn’t worry.

I don’t see a problem w/it…
