I’ve really been liking [name]Veda[/name] a lot lately. It just seems perfect - beautiful and exotic, sort of old-ladyish in a way, and barely ever used.
The only thing that puts me off is that it has very heavy ties to Hinduism… which is an understatement really since The Vedas are sacred Hindi books.
Not that it’s a negative thing in any way, other than the fact I’m very picky about origins of names, and cultural appropriation in general. For the same reason I’d be reluctant to ever use a very religious name of any sort at all, especially a religion which I have little experience with.
The others which I like with a similar feel all seem to have pronunciation problems in my English accent…
[name]Leda[/name] ‘Leader’
[name]Lita[/name] ‘Litre’
[name]Vesper[/name] ‘[name]Vespa[/name]’ (as in the bike)
I also really liked [name]Tora[/name] a few years ago and still love it, but then I have the exact same problem of ‘Torah’.
Thanks for the lovely suggestions - I like [name]Letta[/name], [name]Tova[/name], [name]Zosia[/name], [name]Rita[/name], [name]Thora[/name] and [name]Petra[/name] a lot.
Is [name]Vida[/name] pronounced Vee-da or [name]Vi[/name]-da?
how about [name]Lena[/name]? or [name]Elena[/name] nn [name]Lena[/name]? [name]Vida[/name], [name]Vita[/name], and [name]Lila[/name] or [name]Lilah[/name] kind of have the same feel to them.
