Siofra

I found Siofra on the blog The Beauty of Names (Siofra), and I fell instantly in love with it, although I would probably use it as a middle name. I was wondering if anyone else had any opinions on it. Does anyone know if it has any history of use in [name]Ireland[/name] or the US?

I love Siofra! Its so beautiful. It means “[name]Queen[/name] of the Fairies” which is a lovely meaning. It has been commonly used in [name]Ireland[/name] for a long time, thought its ranked in the latter half of their top 100 now. I don’t think its been used outside of [name]Ireland[/name] much.

I think it’d be received well in the US, what with the current influx of Irish names gaining popularity. With [name]Saoirse[/name], [name]Aoife[/name], [name]Maeve[/name], [name]Caoimhe[/name] now being used more, I think a little Siofra (or Síofra) would fit right in

[name]Hi[/name] there.

I live in [name]Ireland[/name], the name is quite popular here, actually (although not as common as [name]Aoife[/name], [name]Caoimhe[/name], [name]Niamh[/name] or [name]Saoirse[/name]). I have a lovely little cousin named Siofra. She really suits her name. My aunt paired Siofra with big sisters Dearbhla, [name]Eimear[/name] and Meabh, and little brother [name]Colm[/name]. I agree with you, I think Siofra, pron. SHEE-fra, is a wonderful name.

It’s a pretty name but there would be definite pronunciation problems unless you live in [name]Ireland[/name].

I [name]LOVE[/name] it!!

I love it too, I have a [name]Saoirse[/name] so Siofra seemed out/too similar this go around, but I think it is precious!

My husband likes it, along with [name]Saoirse[/name] and [name]Siobhan[/name]. I like it more than [name]Siobhan[/name], not sure I like it more than [name]Saoirse[/name].

It has a faintly creepy meaning, kind of cool in a vaguely goth way. But I’m not sure I’m game for it.

I’m probably going to have to let DH pick a very Gaelic MN to go with the first name we have, since it’s not as Gaelic (and my husband looooooves Celtic/Gaelic names) and I’m going to keep this on the list I think for him to choose among. I think he spelt it Siafra, though? Is that acceptable or kreative?
