Our last name is similar to Swanson. My daughter’s name is [name]Adelaide[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]. Please let me know your thoughts on the following options for her sister:
Of those three, definitely [name]Caroline[/name]! It’s lovely. You could even do [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Augusta[/name]!
I also think that [name]Isolde[/name], [name]Liesel[/name], and [name]Lorelei[/name] would be very sweet with [name]Adelaide[/name]. I love [name]Liesel[/name] [name]Augusta[/name]!
[name]Caroline[/name] is perfect- they both sound classic and old fashioned. I think [name]Isla[/name] doesn’t flow with [name]Adelaide[/name] although I love it. [name]Serena[/name], same. [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Augusta[/name] or [name]August[/name] is great.
I seem to be in the minority but [name]Caroline[/name] (while lovely) doesn’t feel as special as [name]Adelaide[/name] to me. I like lemon’s suggestion of [name]Lorelei[/name]. If you are definitely using one of these three, I would vote [name]Serena[/name]. It’s of a different style than [name]Adelaide[/name] but I think it matches in familiar-but-unusualness.
gwensmom, you hit on my concern. [name]Caroline[/name] is much more common than the other two options. [name]Both[/name] dad and I have very unusual names so I’m having trouble feeling comfortable with a name I will see everywhere.
[name]Lorelei[/name] just makes me think of [name]Gilmore[/name] Girls. Any other suggestions that are classic but not too common? I think [name]Naomi[/name] fits this description, but dad doesn’t love it.
[name]Coraline[/name] (more unusual than [name]Caroline[/name])
[name]Cordelia[/name] (oops…not the best flow with the middle name…)
[name]Clementine[/name] (reminds me of [name]Caroline[/name])
[name]Cecily[/name] (I love alliteration, but on second thought, [name]Cecily[/name] [name]August[/name] Swanson is really sss heavy…)
[name]Eleanor[/name]
[name]Emmeline[/name]
[name]Genevieve[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Mirabel[/name]
[name]Mariel[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name] (nn [name]Poppy[/name] or [name]Nell[/name]…)
[name]Vivian[/name]
I tried to include names with ending sounds like [name]Caroline[/name], but I really love the names that don’t end in an N sound with your last name.
