We just learned we are having a girl in February!! We have twin boys, Alden Michael and Theodore Daniel (nn Theo).
Right now, my husbands favorite name is Eve which I also love, but am wondering if maybe it’s a little short with Alden and Theodore/Theo as it’s just one syllable. We don’t like the idea of Evelyn nn Eve, we prefer the name on its own. Also don’t love Eva.
My other top contenders right now are Louise (we have a French last name that would flow really well with this!) and Cecile (family name). I LOVE Josephine (I named my childhood doll this so it’s really special to me!) and Madeline (also family name) but don’t love that they are more popular and my husband isn’t totally sold on either. Josephine is a top middle name contender!
Curious to hear your thoughts!!
Top names:
Eve
Louise
Cecile (or Cecilia!)
Josephine
Madeline
Lena (husband doesn’t love this one)
I think [name_f]Eve[/name_f] is really beautiful and works just fine! Yes, it’s shorter, but
[name_f][/name_f][name_f][/name_f]
It’s not shorter by much? [name_m]Alden[/name_m] is two syllables and [name_f]Eve[/name_f] is one! It’s not like you have sons with especially long names!
[name_f][/name_f]
It’s pretty common for sons vs. daughters in the same family to have names that are slightly different in style or sound
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Even[/name_m] if [name_f]Eve[/name_f] differs in sound, stylistically it’s a great match with both [name_m]Alden[/name_m] and [name_m]Theo[/name_m], which I think makes up for it!
[name_f][/name_f][name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Alden[/name_m] & [name_m]Theo[/name_m] both feel very trendy so I maybe wouldn’t go for a retro-vintage classic like [name_f]Louise[/name_f] with them, and I like [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] more than [name_f]Cecile[/name_f] as a sister for the same reason! [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] is my second favourite for you after [name_f]Eve[/name_f], it’s such a beautiful name! Also: if you like [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] and [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] but neither is quite the one, maybe you’d like some other -ine names like [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], [name_f]Adeline[/name_f], [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_m]Valentine[/name_m]?
Totally agree with the above that [name_f]Eve[/name_f] matches stylistically, whereas [name_f]Louise[/name_f] and [name_f]Cecile[/name_f] (and tbh, [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] and Madeline) sound more vintage classic. [name_f]Eve[/name_f] is timeless but sounds fresh with [name_m]Alden[/name_m] and [name_m]Theo[/name_m]. I like [name_f]Lena[/name_f] with the sibs, if your husband can be persuaded! (You seem to be quite keen on ‘ee’ sounds for girls!)
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] would be really pretty!
[name_f][/name_f]
What about [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] nn [name_f]Josie[/name_f]? I think [name_f]Josie[/name_f], [name_m]Alden[/name_m] and [name_m]Theo[/name_m] are nice together.
Yes, [name_f]Eve[/name_f] is short compared to her brothers. However, Theodore’s nn is short, so that balances things out. If [name_f]Eve[/name_f] is your heart’s choice, go for it!
[name_f][/name_f]
Other options to get to the nn [name_f]Eve[/name_f]:
I don’t think [name_m]Alden[/name_m], [name_m]Theo[/name_m], and [name_f]Eve[/name_f] go badly together. I actually kind of like them as a set.
[name_f][/name_f]
But all your names are nice. I don’t think there’s a bad choice here. [name_m]Alden[/name_m], [name_m]Theo[/name_m], and [name_f]Louise[/name_f] is my personal favorite though.
i think [name_f]Eve[/name_f] is very nice! it goes nice with [name_m]Alden[/name_m] and [name_m]Theo[/name_m] and plus i personally don’t think length [name_f][/name_f]matters that much!
[name_f][/name_f]
you might like… [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Cosette[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Isla[/name_f] / [name_f]Iyla[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Raya[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] nn [name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Selene[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Olive[/name_f] (maybe you could get [name_f]Eve[/name_f] out of here, but idk) [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Samantha[/name_f] nn [name_m]Sam[/name_m]
[name_f]Eve[/name_f] is a such a beautiful name! I think it goes perfectly with the boys, and a long name might be a mouthful to say with the others tbh
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Cecily[/name_f], [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Elouise[/name_f], [name_f][/name_f]Probably too out there for most but the other day I saw [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] nn [name_f]Evie[/name_f]! Which was actuakly really cute to me. [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Mabel[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f] this is a sweet spot I think. [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] ahhh [name_f][/name_f]Anne/Annie [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Opal[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Ivy[/name_f] or [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Nancy[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Adelheid[/name_f] / heidi [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Etta[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Clara[/name_f] / [name_f]Claire[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Fleur[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f] (little fleurette?!! Gah )
[name_f][/name_f]
..youve got such a lovely set to work with already. I cant wait to hear what you choose.
I think [name_m]Alden[/name_m], [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], and [name_f]Eve[/name_f] absolutely sound like they could be a sibling set. [name_f][/name_f] All three have a very classic sound, so even though [name_f]Eve[/name_f] is a little shorter, it isn’t egregious–especially since the first two are boys and the latter is a girl (at least I’m assuming [name_m]Alden[/name_m] is a boy, I’ve always heard it used for boys).
[name_f][/name_f]
If you really want a longer name that could nickname [name_f]Eve[/name_f] without being [name_f]Eva[/name_f] or [name_f]Evelyn[/name_f], there’s always: [name_f]Evie[/name_f], [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], [name_f]Everleigh[/name_f] / [name_f]Everly[/name_f], [name_f]Everlyn[/name_f], [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], [name_f]Neva[/name_f] / [name_f]Neve[/name_f], or [name_m]Ever[/name_m].
[name_f][/name_f]
I think of your other potentials, [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] are my favorites.
[name_f][/name_f]
Some other names that might work for you that I’d suggest are [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Elise[/name_f] / [name_f]Elisa[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Elena[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_f]Celia[/name_f], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], or [name_f]Flora[/name_f].
I think [name_f]Eve[/name_f] is substantial enough with [name_m]Alden[/name_m] and [name_m]Theo[/name_m]! [name_m]Alden[/name_m], [name_m]Theo[/name_m], and [name_f]Eve[/name_f] look wonderful and sound great too! If it helps at all, I’ve known sibsets which included an [name_f]Eve[/name_f], plus sibs with longer names [name_f][/name_f]- I won’t given the exact[name_f][/name_f] names, but very similar to [name_m]Casper[/name_m], [name_m]Reuben[/name_m], and [name_f]Eve[/name_f] + [name_f]Arabella[/name_f], [name_f]Georgia[/name_f], and [name_f]Eve[/name_f].
[name_f][/name_f]
Anyway, [name_f]Eve[/name_f] feels sleek and smooth [name_f][/name_f]- I like it for you [name_f][/name_f] [name_f][/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] would be delightful!
[name_f][/name_f]
Of your others, I like [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] too [name_f][/name_f]- a family connection but also a name of her own [name_f][/name_f]- and it feels bright and musical! [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f] or [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] would be lovely!
[name_f][/name_f]
Not sure if you wanted suggestions, but [name_f]Celine[/name_f] came to mind: similar in sound to [name_f]Cecile[/name_f], [name_m]French[/name_m] like [name_f]Louise[/name_f], and with the -ine ending of [name_f]Josephine[/name_f].
This is such a lovely list – you can’t go wrong with any of them! [name_f]My[/name_f] top three favorites are ranked in order of preference:
[name_f][/name_f][name_f][/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]Louise[/name_f][name_f][/name_f]: I absolutely love [name_f]Louise[/name_f] with your boys – she’s so underrated & pretty, blends perfectly with your boys’ names, & has the cute nickname [name_f]Lou[/name_f]!
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f][name_f][/name_f]: this is one of my personal favorite names, and I love her with your boys! She’s got [name_f][/name_f] literary connections, and a special connection for you! Plus, there’s so many nickname opportunities, from the spunky [name_f]Jo[/name_f] to the sweet [name_f]Josie[/name_f].
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]Eve[/name_f][name_f][/name_f]: I don’t think she’s too short at all! She sounds lovely with your boys, and is another underrated, timeless, & fresh pick!
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f][/name_f]
A few other suggestions for you: [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Belle[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] / [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Georgia[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] / [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Faith[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Ruby[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] / [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Elodie[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite for you is [name_f]Eve[/name_f] and I agree with the comments of @tallemaja[name_f][/name_f] especially in that the names we choose for our sons and daughters often differ in style and sound. [name_f]Eve[/name_f] works nicely with [name_m]Alden[/name_m] and [name_m]Theo[/name_m] and really isn’t that different in style. Choose the one you love the most!
Congrats on baby girl Other longer “Eve” options (if you’re open…):
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]Evelina[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Geneviève[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] (I love this option for you because of the [name_m]French[/name_m] vibe!) [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f]
Otherwise, I think [name_f]Louise[/name_f] or [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] pair best with bros’ names!
[name_f]Eve[/name_f] → I understand your hesitation regarding length, but [name_f]Eve[/name_f] really holds its own. It’s surprisingly bold for its brevity. I think giving her a more elaborate middle (like [name_f]Eve[/name_f] Josephine) would round it out nicely.
[name_f]Cecile[/name_f] / [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] → [name_f]Cecile[/name_f] is graceful, rare, chic, and undeniably French; may fit better with your surname if it’s [name_m]French[/name_m]. [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] softens and adds familiarity while still feeling lyrical. I love the family tie here!
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] → I wouldn’t count it out solely on popularity. It’s classic and strong with a ton of nickname options (Josie, [name_f]Jo[/name_f], [name_f]Posey[/name_f], Fifi). I do think it makes a great middle name conder for you – [name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] or [name_f]Louise[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] are particularly lovely.
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]Madeline[/name_f] → Feels more common than [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], but very wearable and feminine. Could also pair nicely as a middle (Cecile [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], [name_f]Louise[/name_f] Madeline).
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]Lena[/name_f] → Sweet, breezy, stylish, but if your husband doesn’t love it, it might not be worth pushing for in the first spot.
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite combos (in order) would be [name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Louise[/name_f] [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], [name_f]Cecile[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f], and [name_f]Louise[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f].
[name_m]Reading[/name_m] the title I was going to suggest [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]- so my heart is there and I’m so glad it is on your list [name_f][/name_f].
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Alden[/name_m] [name_m]Michael[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f], [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] and [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f]
Alternatively [name_f][/name_f], for a middle name I feel inclined for the middle to end in an el sound to match the boys
I love [name_f]Eve[/name_f] for you! [name_f][/name_f] She does have less syllables than [name_m]Alden[/name_m] and [name_m]Theo[/name_m], but not so much that it feels out of place to me? [name_f][/name_f] I think you could opt for a longer form like [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], [name_f]Evadne[/name_f], [name_f]Evanthe[/name_f], or [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] though, if it concerns you. [name_f][/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] would be beautiful! [name_f][/name_f] I also love the idea of [name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Cécile[/name_f].
[name_f][/name_f]
I also adore [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] in general and with [name_m]Alden[/name_m] and [name_m]Theo[/name_m] as well! [name_f][/name_f] (Cecile is also stunning but [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] has my heart a little more.)
