I’ve recently had a purge of my girl favourites - suddenly looked at my list and hated most of them! (Why can they never stay as constant as my boys? )
[name_f]Arielle[/name_f] and [name_f]Athena[/name_f] remain my favourites for girls, and I’d use these for my first two daughters if I had them now. I’m struggling to find a third to round out the top three.
[name_f]My[/name_f] top three for boys are [name_m]Caspian[/name_m], [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] and [name_u]Atlas[/name_u].
I was considering [name_f]Selena[/name_f] because I love the moon goddess reference, but it’s too similar to [name_f]Athena[/name_f]. I also love [name_f]Arianwen[/name_f], but it’s too similar to [name_f]Arielle[/name_f]. I like [name_f]Avalon[/name_f], but don’t want the nickname [name_f]Ava[/name_f]. I think I need to avoid another A name as they are getting out of hand on my list lol. I also like [name_f]Estelle[/name_f], but it rhymes with [name_f]Arielle[/name_f]. I like Elowen, but only when deliberately mis-pronounced, which feels disrespectful to the Cornish** origins.
I’m in a pickle!
I like Greek mythology names, Welsh-esque names, fantasy & literature references, celestial names, and nature names.
So, for a hypothetical sister to [name_f]Arielle[/name_f] and [name_f]Athena[/name_f] - what would you suggest?
Hi! I really love [name_u]Atlas[/name_u] and [name_m]Caspian[/name_m]! They fit your theme so good! I was wondering if you saw the same connection between [name_f]Arielle[/name_f] and [name_f]Athena[/name_f] that I did. Idk if you like [name_f]Arielle[/name_f] after the [name_m]Little[/name_m] Mermaid, but [name_f]Queen[/name_f] [name_f]Athena[/name_f] is [name_u]Ariel[/name_u]’s mom. Was it intentional or just a coincidence? But that’s why I really like [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] or [name_u]Atlas[/name_u] for you. [name_f]Kinda[/name_f] water themed lol
Yes hahah it’s a pure coincidence that they’re both connected to the [name_m]Little[/name_m] Mermaid! I like [name_f]Arielle[/name_f] despite the [name_u]Ariel[/name_u] connection, not because of it (I wouldn’t say [name_u]Ariel[/name_u]’s my favourite role model for a daughter just quietly lol) but they’re both gorgeous names, I see why Disney used them lol.
Glad you love [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] and [name_u]Atlas[/name_u] too I’m settled on my boy favourites. [name_m]Just[/name_m] trying to find another girl name that could be a sister to [name_f]Athena[/name_f] and [name_f]Arielle[/name_f]!
Athena and [name_f]Arielle[/name_f] definitely works well. I think [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] or [name_f]Estella[/name_f] is a great option for hypothetical daughter #3. Here are some additional suggestions:
Maybe one of these will work for you!
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]
[name_f]Adele[/name_f]
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f]
[name_f]Althea[/name_f]
[name_f]Nerissa[/name_f]
[name_f]Avalon[/name_f] with the nickname Lonnie or Val
[name_f]Catalina[/name_f]
Delilah
[name_f]Ariadne[/name_f]
Calypso
Calliope
[name_f]Delphine[/name_f]
Elodie
[name_f]Asteria[/name_f]
What gorgeous names! Maybe you’d like:
• [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f]/Gwendolen
• [name_f]Lumina[/name_f]
• [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] (my first thought, though I know you said you didn’t want another “A” name)
• [name_f]Evadne[/name_f]
• [name_f]Juno[/name_f]
• [name_f]Rubina[/name_f]
• [name_f]Celestine[/name_f]
• [name_f]Bronwyn[/name_f]
• [name_f]Zelda[/name_f]
So many lovely A names coming through! Stop, stop - my eyes! I can’t look at them or I’ll fall in love
[name_u]Artemis[/name_u] is fantastic (@18_25 you’re onto it) but I feel it’s too much to have an [name_f]Athena[/name_f] and an [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] and at [name_u]Atlas[/name_u] or [name_m]Apollo[/name_m] (If I have a boy those are frontrunners).
[name_f]Astraea[/name_f] is nice too, and I did make a thread about it a while ago, but I’m from nz and I asked my family to read it aloud - it’s too close to the comical 'straya pronunciation of Australia
This is such a striking, gorgeous name and I should like it in theory, but for some reason I can’t get it on my list. It’s definitely got the required oomph to follow [name_f]Athena[/name_f].
You don’t think it’s too similar to [name_f]Arielle[/name_f]?
I like these!
These are lovely, will add them to the list. [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] is amazing, and definitely can follow the tough act that is [name_f]Athena[/name_f], but I think I do need to avoid any more As.
[name_u]Seren[/name_u] is fantastic!
I love this so much, but I think it would get misspelled as [name_f]Celine[/name_f] all the time So I’ve had to part ways with it.
Aryn or Arynn! [name_f]My[/name_f] best friend gave her baby girl that name and it looks totally stunning.
[name_f]Arianna[/name_f]/Ariana
[name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f] (in case you wanna another direction)
[name_u]Bryn[/name_u]/Brynna
Wryn/Wrynna
[name_f]Bronwyn[/name_f]
Euphrosyne - Greek goddess of happiness
Persephone
Aglaea - Goddess of beauty
Btw I love mythology names as well. You have great taste.
I just want to say (sorry if this ruins [name_f]Arielle[/name_f] for you):
Arielle Scarcella is a youtuber. She’s a terf lesbian that’s really laughed at. At least in the LGBTQ+ community, the name [name_f]Arielle[/name_f] is really tied to her.
So I’ve been thinking about this and asking some of my other queer friends (I myself am queer and though I’ve heard of [name_f]Arielle[/name_f], I’ve never seen any of her videos or heard her discussed in my circles, irl or online). Most of the queer people I asked said they wouldn’t make that connection, and that it’s not a big deal for them. I’m not sure that she’s relevant for LBGTQ+ folks everywhere. Are you located in the US?
Hmm. Well, I think you can find someone bad who bears just about any name. As for my experience in the queer community, I’ve never heard [name_f]Arielle[/name_f] vetoed like that.
