Sister for Ella

Hi Berries - We are expecting another daughter and could use some help in our search for a sister name for Ella. The following are off the list because of family, friends, etc.: Sophie, Hannah, Naomi, Emma, Mia, Phoebe. Names with a Hebrew meaning a plus.

We are thinking “Rose” for middle (a family name).

To give a sense of our style, so far we are considering:

  1. Lila (Both my husband and I love Lila – too similar or doable?)
  2. Ariana nn Ari (Maybe too flowery?)
  3. Olivia nn Liv (Love, but wary of popularity)
  4. Eden nn Edie
  5. Amelia nn Mimi or Millie (Too popular?)
  6. Margot (Name means the same as Ella’s middle, so might be too matchy)
  7. Some whimsical outliers: Orli, Willow, Freya, Sadie - but these are much lower on the list.

Would love your thoughts/any suggestions along these lines!

I like [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] best from your list!

[name_f]Ella[/name_f] & [name_u]Zoe[/name_u]
[name_f]Ella[/name_f] & [name_f]Chloe[/name_f]
[name_f]Ella[/name_f] & [name_f]Tess[/name_f]
[name_f]Ella[/name_f] & [name_f]Suzie[/name_f]
[name_f]Ella[/name_f] & [name_f]Mae[/name_f]

[name_f]Lila[/name_f] and [name_f]Ella[/name_f] are close: lots of L sounds. But if you both love it, I don’t think it’s that big of a deal.

[name_u]Eden[/name_u] is also a contender.

[name_f]Freya[/name_f] seems off the mark if you’re after a Hebrew meaning.

I suggest [name_f]Eliora[/name_f], even though it, too, is close to [name_f]Ella[/name_f]. It means [name_m]God[/name_m] is my [name_u]Light[/name_u].

I like [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Margot[/name_f] (I think the meanings matching is kind of cute and cool), [name_f]Freya[/name_f] and [name_u]Willow[/name_u]!

Some suggestions:

[name_f]Ella[/name_f] and…

I agree! It’s a nice connection between them :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: also Margot Rose is gorgeous. Similarly I think Eden works well because they’d share a letter but the sounds are so different.

If you’re concerned about popularity I would avoid Olivia or Amelia sadly, but maybe something similar like Ottilie or Amabel? Or Odelia is Hebrew I think.

Other suggestions…
Ella and Zara
Ella and Jemima
Ella and Sylvie
Ella and Tessa
Ella and Phoebe
Ella and Martha
Ella and Ruthie
Ella and Esther (might be a bit close but how cute is Essie Rose? :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:)

Congratulations :tada:

Firstly [name_f]Ella[/name_f] is gorgeous!

[name_f]My[/name_f] thoughts on your list…

[name_f]Lila[/name_f] ~ I think this name is beautiful bright, spunky, feminine with an upbeat jazzy vibe. I think [name_f]Lila[/name_f] could be a bit matchy repeated L & A sounds both four letters but just about doable. I think [name_f]Lola[/name_f] would work better due to the strong ‘o’ sound. Other ideas could be [name_f]Lyra[/name_f], [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] & [name_f]Delilah[/name_f].

[name_f]Ariana[/name_f] ~ is feminine, elegant, bright and has a strong princess sound. I think [name_f]Ella[/name_f] & [name_f]Ariana[/name_f] work however not a favourite pairing [name_u]Aria[/name_u] I think is a better fit.

[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] ~ isn’t my style personally I’ve never been a fan of [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] I don’t like how the sounds roll together the o with the l into via isn’t attractive to me. However does work with [name_f]Ella[/name_f]. I prefer [name_f]Olive[/name_f]. I actually love [name_f]Olive[/name_f]! [name_f]Ella[/name_f] & [name_f]Olive[/name_f] would be sweet. I also like [name_f]Livia[/name_f], [name_f]Livvy[/name_f] & [name_f]Liv[/name_f] they all sound wonderful with [name_f]Ella[/name_f].

[name_u]Eden[/name_u] ~ a lovely biblical place name that feels modern yet classic all at the same time. [name_u]Eden[/name_u] does work with [name_f]Ella[/name_f] however I think using another ‘e’ name could pigeonhole you into using e names for future children so I wouldn’t use. Other ideas could be [name_f]Clover[/name_f], [name_u]Wren[/name_u] & [name_u]Arden[/name_u].

[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] ~ granted she is popular but a lot of the names on your list are popular so I wouldn’t rule her out. [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is lovely a strong classic very elegant and I love the historical references to [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Earhart[/name_f]. [name_f]Ella[/name_f] & [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] work well. You could use [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] or [name_f]Amalia[/name_f] for a less popular option.

[name_f]Margot[/name_f] ~ classic, elegant, timeless and sounds beautiful with [name_f]Ella[/name_f]. [name_f]Gorgeous[/name_f] sibling set. Personally I think both sibling sharing names meaning [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] isn’t a big issue and actually a sweet way to tie them together! I love [name_f]Ella[/name_f] & [name_f]Margot[/name_f] together. Other ideas could be [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] & [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f].

[name_f]Orli[/name_f] ~ feels a bit random with [name_f]Ella[/name_f] I think [name_f]Orla[/name_f] would be a better fit.

[name_u]Willow[/name_u] ~ a name that has suddenly increased popularity so feels very current whilst having earthy whimsical undertones. [name_f]Ella[/name_f] & [name_u]Willow[/name_u] sound great together. [name_f]Willa[/name_f], [name_u]Juno[/name_u] & [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] could also work.

[name_f]Freya[/name_f] ~ another name that has increased in popularity and is now a firm favourite amongst us Brits! [name_f]Ella[/name_f] & [name_f]Freya[/name_f] definitely work. [name_f]Faye[/name_f], [name_f]Athena[/name_f] & [name_f]Hebe[/name_f] could be other ideas.

[name_f]Sadie[/name_f] ~ a lovely vintage name really spunky and upbeat. [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] & [name_f]Ella[/name_f] do work but not one that I would automatically pair together. Some other vintage ideas could be [name_f]Hattie[/name_f], [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] & [name_f]Tansy[/name_f].

[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite from your options is [name_f]Margot[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Ella[/name_f] & [name_f]Margot[/name_f] is beautiful. [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is stunning.

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps

[name_f]Ella[/name_f] & [name_f]Leah[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Ella[/name_f] & [name_f]Mara[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Ella[/name_f] & [name_f]Maya[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Ella[/name_f] & [name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]

[name_f]Ella[/name_f] & [name_f]Thea[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]

[name_f]Ella[/name_f] and [name_u]Ari[/name_u] together, interesting! In context, but unexpected. Same with [name_f]Liv[/name_f]. Given, I’m not a nn person but certainly wouldn’t nn [name_u]Eden[/name_u]. Such a great name in whole! Huge [name_f]Margot[/name_f] fan.

[name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_u]Eden[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Ariana[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] in this order for me. [name_f]Lila[/name_f] is much too close for my personal taste, but if you both truly favor it above others, that should be considered.

[name_u]Willow[/name_u] seems too nature-ish with [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. [name_f]Freya[/name_f] is gorgeous. [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] works. [name_f]Orli[/name_f] is fun but kind of hard to say together. [name_f]Orli[/name_f] and [name_f]Ella[/name_f].

For fun- [name_f]Ella[/name_f] and [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Thea[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Adah[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_u]Rani[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]

[name_f]Lila[/name_f] and [name_f]Ella[/name_f] do sound very similar. [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] could be a good alternative!

[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] sounds close to [name_f]Ella[/name_f] to me too. Maybe [name_f]Mira[/name_f] nn [name_f]Mimi[/name_f]?

[name_f]Ariana[/name_f] (Ari) + [name_u]Eden[/name_u] (Edie) = [name_u]Arden[/name_u] (Ari)?

If you like [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_u]Willow[/name_u] and [name_f]Sadie[/name_f], you might like [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], [name_u]Waverly[/name_u] or [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f].

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite from your list is [name_f]Sadie[/name_f]! [name_f]Ella[/name_f] and [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] both have a sweet but fiesty vibe and I like that they have distinct sounds.
