I’m due in [name_u]March[/name_u] with our second girl, but my husband and I can’t agree on any names. I like vintage names and that stylistically match better with [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] (in my opinion) like [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], [name_f]Margot[/name_f], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], etc… and my husband is liking more modern and trendy names this time around like [name_u]Piper[/name_u], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], [name_f]Willow[/name_f], [name_f]Harlow[/name_f], [name_u]Brinley[/name_u], [name_u]Paisley[/name_u], etc… Some middle ground suggestions would be lovely!
Our last name has two long “a” sounds in it, so preferably nothing with a long A sound and nothing starting with a “b”. If it starts with an “e” that’s fine, but I would rather avoid that. Her middle name will be [name_f]Frances[/name_f] (not making it the first name). Names we can’t use because of family are [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], [name_f]Rose[/name_f] (and variants), and [name_f]Penelope[/name_f].
[name_f]Margot[/name_f] seems like it would split the difference in your styles and it would work nicely with [name_u]Eloise[/name_u]. Other ideas:
[name_f]Romilly[/name_f]
[name_f]Zoe[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]
[name_f]Maren[/name_f]
[name_f]Carys[/name_f]
[name_f]Zelie[/name_f]
I thought so too, but he’s shot it down every time I bring it up [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f], [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], and [name_f]Romilly[/name_f] (love this!) are all pretty. Maybe he’ll go for one of those…
Before I suggest Romilly to my husband, do you think it would be an issue that my step-mother’s nickname (though she goes by it exclusively) is Millie? Do you think it would be seen as an honor name?
To me, [name_f]Romilly[/name_f] and [name_f]Millie[/name_f] are different names with different origins that just happen to share some sounds, but I don’t know how it would seem to your family.
Honestly, I would assume [name_f]Romilly[/name_f] is a nod to [name_f]Millie[/name_f]. It’s a cute name regardless.
The first name that popped into my head was [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f]. It’s classic, spunky and I feel like the nickname [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] gives it a playful modern feel that could possibly appeal to your husband?
Oh I like the suggestion of [name_f]Ramona[/name_f] nn [name_u]Romy[/name_u]. [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] & [name_u]Romy[/name_u] = adorable.
Sorry if I repeat here!
I thought maybe [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] & [name_f]Gemma[/name_f]? [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] is kind of darling. And [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] bridges the vintage-modern gap I think.
Or…
[name_f]Arwen[/name_f] …has the old-fashioned romance of [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] but modern sound like [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f] “[name_u]Georgie[/name_u]” …so cute - can be girly as is or tomboy with nn
[name_f]Maisie[/name_f] …vintage name but similiar in sound to [name_u]Paisley[/name_u] & Co
[name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] …again, echoes of [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], but very vintage glam
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f] …vibrant twist on [name_u]Piper[/name_u] that meshes better with [name_u]Eloise[/name_u]
[name_f]Briony[/name_f] …instead of [name_u]Brinley[/name_u]?
[name_f]Blythe[/name_f]…in the vein of more modern one-syllable names like [name_u]Blake[/name_u], [name_u]Blair[/name_u], etc but more colorful & 1930’s-esque
[name_f]Cora[/name_f]…vintage yes but on the strong modern side, a la [name_f]Keira[/name_f], etc
[name_f]Verity[/name_f]…because it sounds good with [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] ;D
[name_f]Adira[/name_f]…very feminine but means “strong”
[name_f]Tessa[/name_f]…sounds modern but so much history behind it - feisty & feminine all at once, like [name_u]Eloise[/name_u]
Thank you! I do love [name_f]Romilly[/name_f], especially the nickname [name_u]Romy[/name_u], but I think my mom would take it as a snub or something. So sad!
I’m loving the suggestion of [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] and so is my husband, thank God! [name_m]How[/name_m] cute would [name_u]Lou[/name_u] & [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] be!
[name_f]Ramona[/name_f] is a really lovely name and it would get me the nickname [name_u]Romy[/name_u], but I don’t think it’s for us. Same goes for some of the other names. Thank you again, everyone! There have been some wonderful suggestions so far!
I love [name_f]Margot[/name_f] and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], can you just convince him since you’re the one giving birth? [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] is a cute compromise though! I also like [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], [name_f]Zoe[/name_f], [name_f]Tessa[/name_f], and [name_f]Cora[/name_f] from pps.
The first name that came to mind as a possible compromise was [name_f]Willa[/name_f]-- it has the vintage sweetness, but close to [name_f]Willow[/name_f] and some of the other names your DH likes. Looking at the nature/flower names might be a good compromise too.
Thank you! [name_f]Laurel[/name_f] and [name_f]Colette[/name_f] are lovely. As are many others, but those two are the only ones my husband went for. I looove [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], but my name is [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and it would definitely be like naming her after myself which isn’t something I’m interested in
Anymore suggestions? My husband’s decided he doesn’t like Laurel or Colette anymore. Gwendolyn’s still sticking, but I’d like to see some more options.
