šŸ’ sister for felicity

Hi everyone, I have been following the topics and advice on the forum for baby names for a long time and now would be grateful for some feedback! We have daughter #2 arriving soon and are struggling with names. We know the middle name will be Florence because it’s a family name. We split our time between the U.K. and USA so would like something suitable on both sides of the Atlantic. Our first daughter is named Felicity so ideally something that compliments that name would be lovely.

Here is our shortlist:
Eloise
Beatrice
Georgiana/Georgina
Charlotte
Philippa
Harriet
Penelope

We have a few family members with very strong opinions (both negative and positive) which we are trying not let influence us, but we now feel more confused than ever with what to choose! Thank you very much!

You have some lovely options!

[name_f]My[/name_f] favourites for you are:

[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] is lovely - I like the happy meaning with [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]

[name_f]Eloise[/name_f] is sleek, sophisticated and elegant, but warm and bright too - I think that compliments [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]

[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] is strong but fun, vintage but lively, cute but sophisticated

[name_f]Georgiana[/name_f] is full of clunky-elegance and subtle elegance

[name_f]Philippa[/name_f] is sweet, bubbly and pretty, with strength too. I like it, however [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] and [name_f]Philippa[/name_f] might get a bit tongue-twistery

[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is classic, strong, and elegant with charming nicknames. It’s just a lot more popular than [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] (especially in the US) if that bothers you

[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] is stylish, bright and melodic, with flair and sass. For me, it’s a teeny bit rhymey with [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], but it’s not unusable (and hearing the rhyme might be a me problem?)

Not sure if you wanted new ideas, so just ignore the drop down if you don't, but these did come to mind

[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f]
[name_f]Willa[/name_f]
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f]
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f]

[name_m]Welcome[/name_m] to NB! Congrats on girl #2! :heartpulse:

[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], and [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] are all suuuuuper popular in the USA right now but I don’t know how much that matters to you. If you want something lovely and less common like sis’s name, I’d go with [name_f]Philippa[/name_f] or [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f] from your list:

Others that go well with sis’s name (classic yet fresh and not overused):

[name_f]Susannah[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Tiffany[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Lorraine[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Mirabelle[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Prisca[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Priscilla[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f]
Joan/ [name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Marietta[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f]

Hopefully these help

Huge congratulations :tada:

Felic1ty is beautiful. Such a whimsical glamorous name.

My thoughts on your list

Eloise ~ I really love the name Eloise she’s elegant, preppy and bright. I think she’ll make a wonderful sister name for Felic1ty such a sparkly pairing.

Beatrice ~ she’s a lovely timeless choice with great Shakespearean connections and a wonderful meaning ā€˜bringer of joy’ which feels like a sweet connection to Felic1ty with the overall happy vibe.

Georgiana/Georgina ~ personally I’m not a fan off George and George names which includes this choice. I’ve never been a fan of this name so for me this just isn’t making me sing.

Charlotte ~ she’s so classic with a regal, elegant, wholesome sound. The overall combination of Charlotte Florence feels so quintessentially British but would work in the states.

Philippa ~ I think this name has a clunky cool feel along with surrounding graceful. I also think Pippa makes a sweet nickname. Still I’m not completely sold on Philippa something about the name doesn’t pull on my heart strings.

Harriet ~ I think this name has the same clunky cool feel of Philippa but I prefer the overall sound of Harriet. She’s elegant, enduring, strong and has the great historical reference of Harriet Tubman which is a great namesake. I also love Hattie. Harriet Florence is beautiful. She sounds beautiful with Felic1ty.

Penelope ~ oh gosh she’s so romantic isn’t she?! Such a beautiful name that sounds melodic, graceful and gives me cottagecore feels through her adorable meaning weaver the sweet nickname Penny. I also love the sheer romance of Penelope Florence and think she sounds beautiful with Felic1ty very feminine.

My top two are Eloise + Penelope :ballet_shoes:

Runner ups: Harriet + Beatrice.

Summary

Suggestions just in case

Susannah Florence
Rosetta Florence
Astrid Florence
Leonora Florence
Christabel Florence
Loretta Florence
Rosamund Florence
Angelica Florence
Evangeline Florence

Hope this helps

I think [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] is a good match. Suggest [name_f]Lucy[/name_f].

I like Charlotte & Harriet - I think they flow the best with Florence. Next would be Penelope and Eloise. I would then choose based on nickname, which would mean Charlotte for me as I love Lottie! I like Hattie too but Lottie just pips her. With Penelope, I would actually choose Polly over Penny (am not a big Penny fan). For Eloise, Elo, Lois or Elle (not Ellie!).

Beatrice complements Felicity with their close meanings, but I don’t love it with the mn Florence (similar endings) and Beatrice probably just that little bit too hemmed in and retentive for me. I also don’t love Bea - many in here do, so that or leave! Philippa (Pippa/Pip) would be better I think with a different middle. Also, with Felicity and Florence, there might be too many F sounds - and it’s probably going to get mixed up with Felicity when you say them out loud.

Like Georgiana in theory, I just don’t love using Georgie/George for my several Georgia/Georgina friends. There’s Gigi I guess, though. I don’t like Georgina - I don’t like saying the name.

Others you might like:

Amelia
Elsbeth
Jessamine
Rosalie
Eliza
Susanna(h)
Margaret (Meg, Maggie, Margot, Peggy)
Elodie
Claudia
Helena (Leni)

You have such a lovely list! And I love Felicity’s name.

[name_f]My[/name_f] favourites of your options are [name_f]Georgina[/name_f], [name_f]Philippa[/name_f], [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] and [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] - but [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] are also great names.

I suppose I’m not much help, but suffice to say that whatever you name you choose will be a wonderful choice.

If you are after some additional ideas, I’ll suggest these:

[name_f]Elise[/name_f], [name_f]Louise[/name_f] or [name_f]Louisa[/name_f], [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Bernice[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], [name_f]Odette[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]

Congratulations!!! What wonderful news!

I love your shortlist and your first daughter has a beautiful name.

I suggest removing [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] from your shortlist because it’s plain by comparison to daughter 1’s name and very common. I would also remove [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] because it sounds a little rhymy with both name ending with the strong EE sound.

Other suggestions for pairing with [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]:

  • [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Heather[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Miriam[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Susannah[/name_f]

All the best! :blue_heart:

[name_f]Lovely[/name_f] list! If you’re looking to narrow it down I would cut [name_f]Philippa[/name_f] because the repeated F sound at the beginning is a bit tongue-twistery and [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] because of the slightly rhymey long EE ending sound. [name_f]My[/name_f] top pick would be [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] both because its my personal favorite on your list and because I think it sounds the best with [name_f]Florence[/name_f].
Other suggestions:
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Susannah[/name_f]
[name_f]Victoria[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Octavia[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]

[name_f]Winifred[/name_f]

I really love [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] or [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] and [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] or [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]! They’re all such great options. I think they would all work for the US or UK too.

Your list is magnificent! I adore all the names! [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] is a beautiful name too.
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] are popular on both sides of the ocean, but a little more popular than [name_f]Felicity[/name_f].
I love [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] for sisters. I adore that they share a meaning related with happiness!
[name_f]Georgiana[/name_f] and [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] are underused gems! I think [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] and [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] sound strong together. [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] is very distinct and sophisticated. [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f] is also very poetic and romantic. On the other hand, I find [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] more serious and heavy, in my opinion.
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f] is simple, elegant and gentle. [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f] sounds amazing! Unfortunately, I think [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] may outshine [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] a little.
At last, [name_f]Philippa[/name_f] is a name that I adore. [name_m]An[/name_m] underused timeless choice with a great meaning and fun nicknames. I really like it but [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_f]Philippa[/name_f] and [name_f]Florence[/name_f] all share a strong F sound.

Taking the middle name in consideration, my favorite to least favorite (I think :upside_down_face:):
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f]
[name_f]Georgiana[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_f]Philippa[/name_f]
[name_f]Georgina[/name_f]

[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] is my fave name from your (fab) list.

I’d eliminate [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] based on the asymmetry of its popularity against [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] (I’d feel shortchanged if I were [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] in the set).

While I love it, I’d eliminate [name_f]Philippa[/name_f] based on same starting sound as both [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] and [name_f]Florence[/name_f].

I’d also eliminate [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] based on same cadence / syllable pattern as [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], it’s a bit sing songy together and a little bit much.

That leaves [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] and [name_f]Harriet[/name_f].

[name_f]My[/name_f] fave is [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] followed by [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], though I’ve always had a soft spot for [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] and think it would be really refreshing used now. [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] I find ok but don’t love, absolutely nothing at all wrong with it just personal taste. I do think it goes really well [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] though.

So not much help! Sorry

With [name_f]Florence[/name_f] as a middle, I like the sound of [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f] best! I know a little girl named [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] and she goes by Bixie, which might also be a cute nickname for [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] if you wanted to go that route.

Oh wow, this is most wonderful feedback! I cannot thank you all enough! It has really helped my husband get closer to a decision. Picking a name can feel so stressful!
Two other names that has just slipped into the final mix are Cecily and Colette. Can I ask if you have any thoughts on those? I am so very grateful!
