Tentatively preparing for a second baby girl!
We had 2 anatomy scans and the baby was scrunched into awkward positions both times
the sonographers each heavily suspected it’s a girl but weren’t 100% confident. I’ve got my boys name list ready just in case there’s a surprise in the delivery room
In the meantime, I need your help with my girls name list. There was a lot of back and forth between the names [name_f]Fenna[/name_f] and [name_f]Petra[/name_f] after my first daughter was born. When my husband conceded and agreed that we would name her [name_f]Fenna[/name_f], we also agreed that if we had a second daughter her name would be [name_f]Petra[/name_f].
[name_m]Flash[/name_m] forward 2 years later and while we haven’t taken [name_f]Petra[/name_f] off the table, we are open to considering other names, with the understanding that if we disagree this time, my husband gets to pick the winning name.
With all that in mind, my list of alternatives is rather short so far!
[name_f]Arista[/name_f]
[name_f]Zella[/name_f]
I tried very hard when picking Fenna’s name to find something that would feel rare and unique in the UK (where we live) without being difficult to spell or pronounce. I’m having an awfully hard time finding another girl name that has a similar feel but unique sound. Husband already thinks [name_f]Zella[/name_f] will too easily be confused with [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] and he probably has a good point. He might be able to get onboard with [name_f]Arista[/name_f] but I worry it might seem too fancy next to [name_f]Fenna[/name_f]? Am I overthinking this? What else would you suggest?
Last point to note: our surname begins with O so the name can’t end in an O sound.
Thanks Berries

[name_f]Fenna[/name] is such a gorgeous name! I love [name_f]Fenna[/name] with [name_f]Petra[/name], they feel so bright but also grounded and down-to-earth. [name_f]Petra[/name] is my top choice for you! I agree that [name_f]Zella[/name] might get confused for [name_f]Zelda[/name] or [name_f]Ella[/name] but it’s very pretty and fits well with your daughter’s name. I don’t love [name_f]Arista[/name] as much with [name_f]Fenna[/name] but I think it could work. Some other suggestions:

[name_f]Petra[/name_f] actually fits beautifully with [name_f]Fenna[/name_f]. Same vibe → crisp, strong consonants, familiar but not overused. If that was your original agreement, it’s honestly still one of the most solid options on the table.
- [name_f]Arista[/name_f] → I see why you like it, but yeah, it leans a bit more elaborate/fancy than [name_f]Fenna[/name_f]. [name_m]Not[/name_m] unusable, just a slightly different aesthetic. But i do think it sounds very nice and could work well.
- [name_f]Zella[/name_f] → Cool sound, but your husband is right, does feel similar vibe because it follows a similar pattern of _e(double consonant)a but most people probably wouldn’t notice that, - it likely will get “Zelda?” a lot.

[name_f]Fenna[/name_f] and [name_f]Petra[/name_f] are two of my favourite girl names! I love them together
I think [name_f]Zella[/name_f] and [name_f]Arista[/name_f] are both nice with [name_f]Fenna[/name_f]! I think I prefer [name_f]Zella[/name_f]. There is also [name_f]Zelie[/name_f], which is a [name_f]French[/name_f] name, and is very similar to [name_f]Zella[/name_f] but more distinct from [name_f]Zelda[/name_f]. [name_f]Fenna[/name_f] and [name_f]Zelie[/name_f] would be adorable together!

Congrats on your pregnancy!
I really like the name Fenna. I also like Petra. I don’t mind Zella (it’s pretty, though I prefer other Z names).
I like the idea of Arista but it could almost sound like “a rooster” or “barista” and apologies for my puerility, but I’d avoid “Risty” as a possible nickname.
Other options:
Zélie (Zaylee)
Tove / Tova
Romy / Romee
Ismay
Maren
Lowri
Anouk
Ingrid “Indie”
Maeve
Carys
Xanthe
Tamsin
Hannelore

[name_f]Fenna[/name_f] and [name_f]Petra[/name_f] are perfection! I love [name_f]Petra[/name_f] and think it’s a perfect style match with [name_f]Fenna[/name_f], so that gets my vote.
[name_f]Zella[/name_f] and [name_f]Arista[/name_f] are both nice, but neither has quite the same groundedness (is that word, haha?) that [name_f]Fenna[/name_f] and [name_f]Petra[/name_f] do to me. They’re both somewhat solid and earthy (without feeling weighed down at all).
[name_m]Other[/name_m] ideas could be…
[name_f]Juna[/name_f]
[name_f]Enid[/name_f]
[name_f]Laurel[/name_f]
[name_f]Mavis[/name_f]

[name_f]Delta[/name_f]
[name_f]Maxine[/name_f]
[name_f]Joya[/name_f]
[name_f]Petra[/name_f] is fantastic with [name_f]Fenna[/name_f]! I agree with the previous comments on [name_f]Zella[/name_f] (confusion is possible) and [name_f]Arista[/name_f] (doesn’t really match the vibe of [name_f]Fenna[/name_f] for me?)

[name_f]Mika[/name_f] - “Mee-Kuh”
[name_f]Maeven[/name_f] - “May-ven”
[name_f]Elize[/name_f] - “Eh-leez”
[name_f]Maren[/name_f] - “Mah-rehn”

[name_f]Zosia[/name_f] - “Zow-see-a”
[name_f]Lilia[/name_f] - “Lih-lee-uh”
Some rarer ones I think will sound wonderful next to sis’s name (which I LOVE, by the way). I would go with [name_f]Arista[/name_f] or [name_f]Petra[/name_f] from your list.

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] these help!
Congratulations! [name_f]Fenna[/name_f] is a beautiful name. I absolutely love [name_f]Petra[/name_f] with her and think it’s your best pick, but I also really like [name_f]Zella[/name_f] - as another [name_f]Brit[/name_f], I don’t think it’s all that confusable with anything, and it’s pretty and sparkly!! I am less keen on [name_f]Arista[/name_f] I’m afraid; it’s pretty, in and of itself but agree with the above that the ‘barista’ thing is bothersome, and it’s a little too close to ‘aristocrat’ for me too.
[name_f]Fenna[/name_f] is delightful! I really like [name_f]Petra[/name_f] for her sister. [name_f]Zella[/name_f] is my fave of your other ideas (Arista reminds me too much of aristo or barista) but I do find it a little bit rhymey with [name_f]Fenna[/name_f]. I actually love [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] but understand it’s an acquired taste.
How about…

I think [name_f]Petra[/name_f] is lovely a striking choice that feels bold and sleek. I also love the international flair of Fenn@ & [name_f]Petra[/name_f] together they are so sophisticated. From the names discussed [name_f]Petra[/name_f] is my favourite!
You’ve had lots of lovely suggestions so count any repeats as me being in agreement with the berries

[name_f]Fenna[/name_f] and [name_f]Petra[/name_f] are great together. Taking more inspo from the [name_m]Dutch[/name_m] charts, I would recommend [name_f]Yara[/name_f], [name_f]Maud[/name_f], [name_m]Cato[/name_m], or Romée/Romy as well.

I like [name_f]Arista[/name_f] and [name_f]Zella[/name_f].
[name_f]Arista[/name_f] has a quiet kind of magic to it – distinctive and arty but not over the top! Also nickname [name_m]Ari[/name_m], [name_f]Isa[/name_f], [name_m]Issy[/name_m], [name_m]Aris[/name_m], Ris, etc. have that same earthy feel as [name_f]Fenna[/name_f]
[name_f]Zella[/name_f] is zippy and energetic and while I do think it could be misheard as [name_f]Zelda[/name_f], I think [name_f]Ella[/name_f] and [name_f]Stella[/name_f] are familiar enough that the sound is recognizable?
Of the two, I slightly prefer [name_f]Zella[/name_f], but both work! I do also really like [name_f]Petra[/name_f]
If I were to suggest some with the lovely Fenna…
[name_f]Katri[/name_f]
[name_f]Asta[/name_f]
[name_f]Suki[/name_f]
[name_f]Vita[/name_f]
[name_f]Sol[/name_f]
[name_f]Bina[/name_f]
[name_f]Saskia[/name_f]
Pepsa
[name_f]Runa[/name_f]
[name_f]Delta[/name_f]
[name_f]Leonie[/name_f]
[name_f]Suvi[/name_f]
[name_f]Sigrid[/name_f]
[name_f]Twyla[/name_f]
[name_f]Petra[/name_f] is a lovely sister name! It feels very strong like [name_f]Fenna[/name_f] but the sounds aren’t so similar they feel like an overlap.
I agree with your husband that [name_f]Zella[/name_f] may be misheard as [name_f]Ella[/name_f] or [name_f]Zelda[/name_f], but I don’t think it would be too much of an issue. Have you considered [name_f]Zelie[/name_f]? (zay-lee but I’ve heard it said as zelly like jelly). [name_m]The[/name_m] ee ending nudges it slightly away from the sounds in [name_f]Fenna[/name_f] without breaking up the style too much.
[name_m]Other[/name_m] ideas:
- [name_f]Aniela[/name_f]
- [name_f]Aneira[/name_f]
- [name_f]Anouk[/name_f] / [name_f]Anoushka[/name_f]
- [name_f]Blythe[/name_f]
- [name_f]Leocadia[/name_f] - maybe too princessy next to down-to-earth [name_f]Fenna[/name_f]?
- [name_f]Mabli[/name_f]
- [name_f]Maud[/name_f] / [name_f]Maude[/name_f]
- [name_f]Meral[/name_f] / [name_f]Meryl[/name_f] / [name_f]Meryn[/name_f]
- [name_f]Nayeli[/name_f]
- [name_f]Senara[/name_f]
- [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f]
I also think you’d like [name_f]Zennor[/name_f] but it’s too similar to [name_f]Fenna[/name_f]. Here are some names that are a little too close to [name_f]Fenna[/name_f] to work (imo - if you think they’re usable, please use them!!) but may be good jumping off points:
- [name_f]Zennor[/name_f]
- [name_f]Azenor[/name_f]
- [name_f]Aenor[/name_f]
