Sister for Freya and Milo

Hello!

First time using a forum for suggestions but we’re having a hard time coming with ideas so hope you guys can help!

We have a [name_f]Freya[/name_f] and a [name_u]Milo[/name_u] and are looking for a name for their future little sister.

I love names that are unique but not unheard off, so cool without being too out there.
The big criteria is that we’re a bilingual family so we need names that are pronounced almost the same in [name_f]English[/name_f] and [name_u]French[/name_u], that takes out a lot of options (think no -th for example).
Our last name is [name_m]Warner[/name_m] which also makes a lot of options sounds weird.

Husband is half Norwegian which is why we loved [name_f]Freya[/name_f]. Also love that it’s a goddess but can’t seem to find another goddess name I like or that works. Also would feel bad for [name_u]Milo[/name_u] if everyone else has a goddess name haha.

We’ve considered Idunn but the pronunciation seems to differ depending on the source. Also she’d had to spell it all the time and I feel like most people would think we named her [name_u]Eden[/name_u]. Bottom line is I love it visually but hearing it it’s too close to [name_u]Eden[/name_u] I think?

I love [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], I’m from [name_f]Provence[/name_f] and it’s originally from there which I think is cool, but it’s also ultra classic and makes me wonder if it goes with the other two or seems weird? Husband is not a huge fan… I love the many nicknames also but once again that’s polar opposite from the other two names that have no nicknames.

Any suggestions??

I should maybe add that we’re thinking about [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] as a middle name but not set on it if it doesn’t work with a first name we love.

Firstly, I adore both [name_f]Freya[/name_f] and [name_u]Milo[/name_u]. [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] names and great as siblings. Secondly, I think [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] is a beautiful name and I actually think it does go; it may be a little more traditional but nicknames like [name_f]Nell[/name_f] and [name_f]Leni[/name_f] diversify it a bit. Welcome to Nameberry!

I love Idunn  Have you considered the [name_f]English[/name_f] form [name_f]Idony[/name_f] (maybe even [name_f]Idonie[/name_f] for the [name_u]French[/name_u] side)?

But I’ll also add another vote for the wonderful suggestion of [name_f]Astrid[/name_f]. Gorgeous, strong, cool and stylish on both sides of la Manche

I really like [name_f]Lola[/name_f] with [name_f]Freya[/name_f] and [name_u]Milo[/name_u]!

I really like previous suggestions of [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] and [name_f]Idonie[/name_f]!

I confess that I’ve never seen the name Idunn before this post and it would have seemed very far out to me (also I would most likely mispronounce it - until you mentioned [name_u]Eden[/name_u] I was way off). For context, I live in [name_f]Canada[/name_f] and have no Scandinavian heritage, so maybe elsewhere it would be an easier name to wear?

To me [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] is a great name and while it has a hundred possible nicknames, to me it isn’t a name that requires a nickname necessarily. There are lots of Jessicas who are just called [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] and they have the same number of letters and syllables. I might have some picky reservations about the sounds repeated in “-nor [name_m]Warner[/name_m]” - maybe say [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_m]Warner[/name_m] yourself out loud a few times and see if it sits well.

A step away from [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] is [name_f]Helena[/name_f], which I really like with your surname and with your children’s names. [name_f]Helena[/name_f] [name_m]Warner[/name_m]? [name_f]Helena[/name_f] [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_m]Warner[/name_m]? Still nicknameable ([name_f]Nell[/name_f]!) but not necessarily, and it is a goddess name, just not Scandinavian. I’m pronouncing it HEL-en-uh but heh-LAY-na and heh-LEE-na are both options too. There’s also [name_f]Elena[/name_f] from that root.

Some assorted others:

Louisa
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_u]Léonie[/name_u]
Luciane or [name_f]Lucienne[/name_f]
[name_f]Anneke[/name_f] or [name_f]Anneka[/name_f]
[name_f]Johanna[/name_f]
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] (apparently L names are calling to me for you)

Freya & [name_u]Milo[/name_u] are great together! [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] is such a beautiful name. It is more classic then your older children’s names, but it still flows nicely with them in my opinion. Also, the pronunciation is almost identical in [name_u]French[/name_u] and [name_f]English[/name_f]. However, the difference in style seems to bother you, and your husband is not sold on [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f].

Here are some suggestions:

Astrid - it was proposed by other members, and I love it! Same style as [name_f]Freya[/name_f] & [name_u]Milo[/name_u], similar pronunciation in [name_u]French[/name_u] and [name_f]English[/name_f]. Common in northern Europe.

Elinor - northern Europe version of [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], therefore honoring you and your husband’s origines, while staying closer to your naming style.

Eline/ [name_f]Elina[/name_f] - alternative spelling for [name_f]Helen[/name_f], less common, except in northern Europe. Same style as your older children’s names, same pronunciation in [name_u]French[/name_u] and [name_f]English[/name_f].

Elia - close to [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], but shorter, less common and same pronunciation in [name_u]French[/name_u] and [name_f]English[/name_f].

Elsa - not common, except in northern Europe again. It would be gorgeous with [name_f]Freya[/name_f].

Ada - short, not too common (except in Norway!), easy to pronounce in [name_u]French[/name_u] and [name_f]English[/name_f], like [name_f]Freya[/name_f] and [name_u]Milo[/name_u]. Plus, [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_m]Warner[/name_m] is exquisite

Hope your husband and you find THE name soon!

Love [name_f]Freya[/name_f] and [name_u]Milo[/name_u]!!!

Eleanor is a beautiful name. I agree that it doesn’t “match” as well as the other two, but the nicknames [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] or [name_f]Nell[/name_f] or [name_f]Lena[/name_f] would be perfect with [name_f]Freya[/name_f] and [name_u]Milo[/name_u]. Maybe you would like [name_f]Elena[/name_f] or [name_f]Ella[/name_f] as an alternative to [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]?

Some other suggestions (apologies for any repeats):

Claire

Elodie

Emma

Amelie

Anna

Chloe

Vera

Penelope - not a goddess, but a really cool mythological character. I think the [name_u]French[/name_u] and [name_f]English[/name_f] pronunciations are similar? And it has a multitude of potential nicknames

Flora - also a mythology name; it has the “f” and “a” of [name_f]Freya[/name_f] as well as the “lo” of [name_u]Milo[/name_u]

Alma was the first name that came to my mind! It’s popular in [name_f]France[/name_f] and Norway and fits perfectly with [name_f]Freya[/name_f] and [name_u]Milo[/name_u].

Other suggestions:
[name_f]Adele[/name_f]
[name_f]Thea[/name_f] (I know you said no “th” sounds, but I just had to throw it out there!)
[name_f]Luna[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Lea[/name_f] or [name_f]Leonor[/name_f]
