Need name help for [name_f]Freya[/name_f]'s sister! Looking for something feminine and frilly, but not popular. I like that [name_f]Freya[/name_f] is a strong goddess name, so started there. At this point I’m all over the place. She is due in [name_u]August[/name_u], so I was also looking at floral or summer names. I’m not stuck on A names, it just so happened to be my 3 favorite. Also if its popular in other places that’s fine with me, I know [name_f]Freya[/name_f] is super popular in the UK.
Names I love, but have problems with.
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] - I’m afraid it will be too popular, although I don’t know anyone with the name. It was even in a list of over used names of 2018.
[name_f]Aine[/name_f] - pronuciation issues in the U.S.
[name_f]Aoife[/name_f] - pronuciation issues in the U.S.
I really like [name_f]Aine[/name_f]. I think the pronunciation is obviously ambiguous in the US, but the spelling doesn’t look totally divorced from the pronunciation, unlike some Irish names, and it’s only four letters after all! You could always go with [name_f]Anya[/name_f]. Or, if you like Irish names but want something more intuitive, how about [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]?
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] makes me think of possibly [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f], while other goddesses/strong classical characters that don’t sound too overblown could include [name_f]Juno[/name_f], [name_f]Sybil[/name_f], [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] (well, [name_f]Isis[/name_f], but obviously that’s not a good idea nowadays).
Have you looked at other names that are popular in the UK? You might find some more gems in the style of [name_f]Freya[/name_f] that haven’t yet caught on in the US.
I love [name_f]Freya[/name_f]! I think [name_f]Freya[/name_f] and [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] would be marvelous together. I especially like that they would both be goddess names, since [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] is the goddess of the dawn (though from a different pantheon).
Other ideas (count repeats as an extra vote):
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] - similar to [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]
[name_f]Athena[/name_f] - also a goddess name, but again from a different pantheon
[name_f]Aria[/name_f] - similar to the names you listed
I really like [name_f]Rosa[/name_f] with [name_f]Freya[/name_f], it has the same feminine strength to me. I also like the idea of Idunn with [name_f]Freya[/name_f], as she’s also a Norse goddess. [name_f]Idony[/name_f] is the much more unusual English version of the name which I love.
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] may have gone up in popularity, but it is far from common. She would go wonderfully with [name_f]Freya[/name_f].
The first thought I had when reading your post was [name_f]Iris[/name_f] - both a flower and a goddess.
I really like the suggestions of [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], [name_f]Carys[/name_f], [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], [name_f]Idony[/name_f], [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f], [name_f]Gaia[/name_f], [name_f]Juno[/name_f], [name_f]Bryony[/name_f], [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f], and [name_f]Kerensa[/name_f].
Other ideas: [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f], [name_f]Delphine[/name_f], [name_f]Camellia[/name_f], [name_f]Ianthe[/name_f]
[name_f]Freya[/name_f] and [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] are beautiful together!
I have yet to meet any child under five - or actually anyone ever - named [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] in the US. It’s certainly not an overly saturated name!
Some other thoughts:
