i voted for tabitha. What about [name]Tamsin[/name]?
DH loves [name]Tamsin[/name]. I like it but don’t like [name]Tam[/name] or [name]Tammy[/name] and am not sure it’s avoidable.
I absolutely love the name [name]Gwendolyn[/name]!!!
But I don’t think any of the names on your new list are anywhere near as beautiful
If my sister were named [name]Gwendolyn[/name], I would feel rather cheated with any of those names.
Names I would pair with [name]Gwendolyn[/name]:
[name]Regina[/name]
[name]Ophelia[/name]
[name]Magdalena[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name]
[name]Daphne[/name]
[name]Juliana[/name]
Thanks, jlm. I like [name]Aurora[/name] (DH nixed) and [name]Juliana[/name] from your list too. [name]Do[/name] you think [name]Juliana[/name] is too similar if there’s a close relative named [name]Julia[/name]?
I think it depends on the situation, i.e. how “close” are the close relatives. Obviously, [name]Julia[/name] and [name]Juliana[/name] are too close for siblings, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re too close for cousins, etc (in fact, some people don’t mind cousins even having the exact same first name).
Assuming it’s a really close first cousin of your daughter’s and they will see each other all the time, I still think the names are different enough that you could get away with it. If the other child’s name were [name]Julie[/name], I would feel differently because [name]Juliana[/name] has the entire sound of the name [name]Julie[/name] in it. Additionally, if [name]Julia[/name] goes by [name]Jules[/name] or [name]Jule[/name] or [name]Julie[/name], you might still have a problem. But if she is a firm [name]Julia[/name] all the time, and you wouldn’t mind your daughter being [name]Juliana[/name] all the time (or a nn unrelated to [name]Julia[/name], like [name]Ana[/name]) then I think it’s fine.
[name]Tabitha[/name] is my favorite overall, but [name]Felicity[/name] somehow goes better with [name]Gwendolyn[/name], so I am changing my vote. They both sound very good-girl to me, whereas [name]Tabitha[/name] is a bit more bad-girl to me (although it is one of my favorite names, so what does that say about me?).
[name]Gwendolyn[/name] and [name]Felicity[/name] is one of my fav sibsets of all time – I’m so glad I’m not alone in thinking that!!
Good luck!
I voted for [name]Tabitha[/name], but I can also see [name]Felicity[/name] with [name]Gwendolyn[/name]. I think that [name]Gwendolyn[/name] is such a pretty name.
I can also see [name]Gwendolyn[/name] with:
Welsh:
[name]Carys[/name]
[name]Isolde[/name]
[name]Rowena[/name]
Other:
[name]Annabel[/name]
[name]Aurelia[/name]
[name]Cordelia[/name]
[name]Cora[/name]
[name]Clementine[/name]
[name]Cleo[/name]
[name]Cecilia[/name]
[name]Daphne[/name]
[name]Elspeth[/name]
[name]Eliza[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name]/[name]Eleanora[/name]
[name]Genevieve[/name]
[name]Helena[/name]
[name]Ivy[/name]
[name]Isadora[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Jessamine[/name]
[name]Louisa[/name]
[name]Lydia[/name]
[name]Mirabel[/name]
[name]Miranda[/name]
[name]Nora[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name]
[name]Phoebe[/name]
[name]Stella[/name]
[name]Scarlett[/name]
[name]Violet[/name]
[name]Veronica[/name]
Good luck!
[name]Felicity[/name], [name]Tabitha[/name], and [name]Danica[/name] all sound great with [name]Gwendolyn[/name]. [name]Felicity[/name] is my favorite. [name]Love[/name] the meaning of [name]Danica[/name].
Thanks for your list, [name]Jill[/name]! I like a lot of the ones you’ve suggested, especially:
[name]Penelope[/name] - but I’m a little worried about having a [name]Pen/name and [name]Gwen/name.
[name]Phoebe[/name] - absolutely love but DH said no way and won’t budge
[name]Josephine[/name] - but I’m not sure I like it enough to use it
[name]Veronica[/name] - I like that this one is not heard very much, like [name]Gwendolyn[/name], but is still familiar. And it’s feminine without being frilly, also like [name]Gwendolyn[/name] I think. People often tell me that [name]Gwendolyn[/name] sounds like a princess name and I think that [name]Veronica[/name] has that feel too. I’m definitely adding this one to my list!
Thanks, [name]Susan[/name], I think [name]Tabitha[/name], [name]Felicity[/name] and [name]Danica[/name] are the best too. DH and I together would probably put [name]Danica[/name] first (I love the meaning, too) but we both like [name]Tabitha[/name] too. I love [name]Felicity[/name], but I have been unsuccessful so far in getting DH to agree - luckily I have lots of time to work on him :).
I love all three of those names so much. I kind of know you from reading your posts, and I thought [name]Felicity[/name] might be your favorite. If it were me, I would choose [name]Danica[/name] because it is pretty, unusual, Scandinavian, and I love the meaning. But I love [name]Veronica[/name] even more than [name]Danica[/name]. I see that you are considering [name]Veronica[/name]. [name]Vera[/name] is a fun nn for [name]Veronica[/name]. [name]Gwen[/name] and [name]Vera[/name] are so cute together. Or [name]Veronica[/name]'s middle name could start with a V and then she could be [name]Vivi[/name]. [name]Veronica[/name] [name]Violet[/name] or [name]Veronica[/name] something, I will have to think about it. [name]Veronica[/name] [name]Vivian[/name] is too much, but I kind of like [name]Veronica[/name] [name]Violet[/name]. That would be way too much for a lot of people though. I love [name]Veronica[/name] [name]Fern[/name], but it doesn’t have a V for the middle name. Also love [name]Veronica[/name] [name]Ruby[/name]. So stunning!
Thanks, [name]Susan[/name]. I’m liking [name]Veronica[/name] more and more, and mentioned it to DH. He likes to mull things over, so I’m not sure what he thinks yet. I don’t know if I’ll ever get him to agree with [name]Felicity[/name], so I may have to let it go. But it’s so pretty!! I had to let [name]Linnea[/name] go when expecting [name]Gwen[/name], though, so I’m used to it :). You’re right - [name]Vera[/name] and [name]Gwen[/name] is cute!
Er, how do you say [name]Gwendolyn[/name]? Is it spelled the way its pronounced? Have you come up with an extra nn, other than [name]Gwen[/name]? (I already have two nicknames for both of my expected babies. . . .) [name]Do[/name] you have any grown-up kids, over 10 years old, let’s say? Maybe they could help in the baby-naming. . . .
I don’t know which name to choose . . . I love all of them, although I think that maybe - just MAYBE - they are a little old-fashioned. . . . I’m not telling you you should have a modern-made name or anything, just MAYBE a little modernER. . . .
Other than that, I absolutely love that you’re thinking about the name a little beforehand, before you’re even pregnant. . . . Some moms just think they can use a regular name, whatever, they can just throw in there, and then when the baby comes, they regret naming their little boy [name]Max[/name], which I love, but is more like a nn and a not-so-popular name these days. . . .
[name]Gwendolyn[/name] is the best name, though, I’ve got to say! good luck
!!
[name]Gwendolyn[/name] is pronounced gwhen-doh-lynn. We call her [name]Gwendolyn[/name] most of the time but also [name]Gwen[/name] or [name]Gwennie[/name]; DH calls her Gwendo
I voted for [name]Allegra[/name]… but what about [name]Tanis[/name]?
[name]Tabitha[/name] definitely. It is the best name overall, and goes the best with [name]Gwendolyn[/name] (which I love!!). Good luck!
I love [name]Gwendolyn[/name]! I just thought I would point out that [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Jessica[/name] [name]Parker[/name] named one of her twins [name]Tabitha[/name]. She is such a trendsetter you may see this name surge in popularity. Since you’re not pregnant yet, you will be able to see what happens with this name over time. It is always good to have caution. I fell in love with the name [name]Isla[/name] 3 years ago, I am now pregnant and am fearing that [name]Isla[/name] is too popular. I wish I would’ve prepared myself that it could get popular! Now I am REALLY disappointed. I may still use it though.
I hope this helps!
Thanks mamaray, it’s a good idea to prepare myself for potential [name]Tabitha[/name] popularity. I really like it though, ever since [name]Samantha[/name] named her daughter that on Bewitched! DH has said that he doesn’t like [name]Felicity[/name] and never will, so [name]Tabitha[/name] is a distinct possiblity for us. Also [name]Danica[/name], which has such a lovely meaning.
