Sister for Henry -- 5 letters?

Hey, Berries!

We still can’t pin down a name for our baby girl, due in [name]April[/name]. Our last name sounds like Wight but is spelled like the color. Big brother [name]Henry[/name] has 5 letters in his middle name as well, so we thought it would be cool for both of them to have 5-5-5 names, a neat little connection between them but something most people probably wouldn’t notice.

If we were having a boy his name was going to be [name]Felix[/name], after my great-grandfather, but we haven’t found any family names we love as much for her, so we’re on our own and pleading for your expertise!

Some we came up with:

[name]Agnes[/name] (our favorite before we knew she was definitely a girl, but now my boys are waffling!)
[name]Alice[/name] (almost too plain with our last name?)
[name]Coral[/name] (but two color names?)
[name]Eliza[/name] (DH loves this but is not a My Fair Lady fan so he doesn’t understand that this would be cheesy! LOL)
[name]Hazel[/name] (I’m not too keen on having two H names, or – again – two color-related names, but I feel like [name]Hazel[/name] strikes the right note)
[name]Mabel[/name] (similar sound as [name]Hazel[/name], but I feel like it’s lacking the “feel.” Must be the missing Z!)
[name]Olive[/name] (another color! dang it!)
[name]Viola[/name] (I love this as an alternative to that color name [name]Violet[/name], but I know people would be pronouncing it incorrectly, and I have felt that pain far too many years to bestow the same upon my child!)
[name]Willa[/name] (sweet, but DH doesn’t like the alliteration with our last name)

One of DH’s favorite names is [name]Pearl[/name], which I would only use for a middle name. It’s kind of sweet, since that’s [name]Henry[/name]'s birthstone, but does it sound cheesy with our last name, even in the middle name slot?

A handful of other options for middles, almost all of these are family names but we don’t love them enough for the first name spot:

And other names we like, style-wise, that aren’t 5 letters:

[name]Gertrude[/name] (I know, this one’s pretty dusty! haha)
[name]Harriet[/name] (another H name I probably wouldn’t use)

And [name]Henry[/name] would’ve been [name]Mary[/name] if he’d been a girl, but I wouldn’t use it now because they’d both end in -ry!

Any other 5-letter names you think might be a good fit? First or middle! Thanks so much!

Hmm. What a neat challenge : D.

[name]Agnes[/name] - I love it, but given the waffling will consider it out for now. Middle maybe
[name]Alice[/name] - I don’t think too plain! And lovely as [name]Henry[/name]'s sister! Keep for now. Maybe middle?
[name]Celia[/name] - gorgeous. And a good match to [name]Henry[/name].
[name]Coral[/name] - it probably is too much color, that seems to be a frequent concern for you.
[name]Edith[/name] - [name]Adore[/name] it. So sweet. And captures a lot of the feel of [name]Agnes[/name] if we’re letting that go (to me it does).
[name]Eliza[/name] - I must admit to not knowing enough about My Fair Lady to get it. Consider this name off the table though : D.
[name]Hazel[/name] - adore it, but two limitations is probably too much. Middle maybe.
[name]Mabel[/name] - if you don’t love it, put it on the middle list.
[name]Olive[/name] - it really is a conundrum! : D. I think let’s let this one go, as you don’t seem to love it as much as some of the others.
[name]Viola[/name] – how do you think people would pronounce it? I think plenty would get it right. But I think it’s close to the color, anyway.
[name]Willa[/name] - hmm, I’m a little with your husband. It’s almost alliteration that works, but maybe not quite.

So that gets us down to:

I have these suggestions:
From [name]Alice[/name] and [name]Eliza[/name]: [name]Elise[/name]?
from [name]Celia[/name]: [name]Delia[/name]
From [name]Edith[/name]: [name]Edina[/name]
From [name]Olive[/name]: [name]Oliva[/name]

Onto middles:

I think [name]Pearl[/name] is too much. However, [name]Margo[/name] means pearl, and reminds me of [name]Mary[/name]. [name]Do[/name] you like it? An option if so.

[name]Arden[/name] - gorgeous. I think the best candidate.
[name]Greer[/name] - also really like this, but not as much as [name]Arden[/name]
[name]Irene[/name] - seems too heavily dated, to me, but that might be a bad association on my end.
[name]Jewel[/name] - hmm…OK but heavily associated with the singer. Might be a good compromise on [name]Pearl[/name] though?
[name]Marie[/name] - seems a little bland on the middle, however, it would nod to your enjoyment of [name]Mary[/name]
And from above perhaps we should add:

[name]Mary[/name] also makes me think of [name]Maria[/name]. Scrolling through all this, here are some combos I like…

[name]Celia[/name] [name]Mabel[/name]
[name]Celia[/name] [name]Margo[/name]
[name]Celia[/name] [name]Marie[/name]
[name]Delia[/name] [name]Mabel[/name]
[name]Delia[/name] [name]Margo[/name]
[name]Delia[/name] [name]Marie[/name]
[name]Delia[/name] [name]Greer[/name]
[name]Delia[/name] [name]Margo[/name]
[name]Edina[/name] [name]Greer[/name]
[name]Edina[/name] [name]Jewel[/name]
[name]Edina[/name] [name]Mabel[/name]
[name]Edina[/name] [name]Margo[/name]
[name]Edina[/name] [name]Marie[/name]
[name]Edith[/name] [name]Arden[/name]
[name]Edith[/name] [name]Oliva[/name]
[name]Elise[/name] [name]Jewel[/name]
[name]Elise[/name] [name]Marie[/name]
[name]Margo[/name] [name]Greer[/name]
[name]Margo[/name] [name]Jewel[/name]
[name]Maria[/name] [name]Jewel[/name]
[name]Maria[/name] [name]Greer[/name]

Here are some of my favorite 5-letter names that I don’t think break any of your criteria:

[name]Sarah[/name] (nn [name]Sadie[/name]?)

Sure there are more. [name]Hope[/name] something appeals! : D!

Of your list, my favourites with your last name and with big brother [name]Henry[/name] are:

[name]Agnes[/name] - my favourite for you - I think it is spunky and cute
[name]Celia[/name] - I see [name]Celia[/name] White as being refined and sweet

I really like [name]Hazel[/name], but the [name]Hazel[/name] White does sound too descriptive, I think - same goes for the other colour names.

A few extra ideas I really love for you ~~

Fantastic list, but I have to say that the one that really jumped out was me was [name]Eliza[/name]. I’ve read Pygmalion and seen My Fair Lady and I don’t think that the name [name]Eliza[/name] is overly connected to them to the point of being cheesy. It seems like a classic name to me. I really like the repeating long I sounds in [name]Eliza[/name] and your last name as well.

[name]Celia[/name] & [name]Henry[/name] sound lovely together

For the family names that you don’t love enough for first-name spot, [name]Jewel[/name] could become [name]Gemma[/name], and [name]Irene[/name] could become [name]Irina[/name]

What about…

[name]Henry[/name] and [name]April[/name]?

[name]Henry[/name], [name]April[/name], and [name]Felix[/name].

My 3 girls all have 5 letter names and I’m searching for another one for their baby sister. Thought I’d share their names plus a few more I like…

Also, I like [name]Eliza[/name], but if you think it’s cheesy, have you considered Leiza? That one is sweet and I think it goes great with [name]Henry[/name].

More I’m considering that you might likes are:

I’ll be keeping an eye on this thread as I’m searching for a similar thing!

I love so many on your list! [name]Hazel[/name], [name]Alice[/name], [name]Olive[/name], and [name]Willa[/name] are my favorites. I also like [name]Celia[/name]. I wouldn’t be bothered by the color thing for [name]Hazel[/name], or the alliteration of [name]Willa[/name], but [name]Olive[/name] Wight maybe? It’s not like [name]Olive[/name] [name]Green[/name], like a green olive, haha, but maybe it’s a bit too descriptive. I think [name]Alice[/name] Wight and [name]Celia[/name] Wight sound just adorable! I think [name]Viola[/name] Wight is my favorite, though–it’s just so charming and vintage and [name]Henry[/name] and [name]Viola[/name] sound utterly perfect together.

My first thought was [name]Clara[/name]. [name]Clara[/name] Wight? I think it sounds amazing and [name]Henry[/name] and [name]Clara[/name] are perfect together. WDYT?

Other five letter names:
[name]Anais[/name] (unfortunately, probably unusable because of pronunciations, at least in most places of [name]America[/name], but I love the idea of [name]Henry[/name] and [name]Anais[/name] together!)
[name]Anika[/name] (an [name]Anna[/name] variant that’s probably a bit more usable than [name]Anais[/name]. I prefer [name]Annika[/name], but this is nice too)
[name]Briar[/name] (probably not your style at all, but I think it’s adorable and I think [name]Henry[/name] and [name]Briar[/name] is just adorable)
[name]Dafne[/name] (ugh this makes me cringe… I love [name]Henry[/name] and [name]Daphne[/name] together, though! It doesn’t fit your rule, but maybe it could be an option? :))
[name]Gioia[/name] (Italian name said like [name]JOY[/name]-ah. I think it’s so sweet and happy!)
[name]Molly[/name] (maybe a nice way to incorporate [name]Mary[/name] without reusing the -ry ending? [name]Maria[/name] or [name]Marie[/name] could be another nice option…)
[name]Julia[/name] (could incorporate the [name]Jewel[/name] family name…)
[name]Lelia[/name] ([name]LAY[/name]-lee-ah. I also love the [name]Laelia[/name] spelling, but would break the 5-letter thing)
[name]Lydia[/name] (or just the Frenchy, sweet [name]Lydie[/name]!)
[name]Magda[/name] (love this with [name]Henry[/name]!)
[name]Sonja[/name]/[name]Sonya[/name] (love this Russian diminutive of [name]Sophia[/name]!)
[name]Talia[/name] (love this! I prefer the [name]Thalia[/name] spelling but [name]Talia[/name] is just charming. Of course, I’m biased… My baby sister is [name]Natalie[/name], nn [name]Tallie[/name]/[name]Talia[/name]. :))
[name]Tilly[/name] (I like it better as a nn for something, like [name]Matilda[/name] or [name]Ottilie[/name], but I prefer the nn [name]Tilly[/name] to those full names… I think [name]Henry[/name] and [name]Tilly[/name] is so cute!)
[name]Zarah[/name] (prefer [name]Zara[/name], but I love it either way with [name]Henry[/name]…)
[name]Zelie[/name] (or maybe [name]Azalea[/name], nn [name]Zelie[/name]?)
[name]Zofia[/name] (maybe too exotic for the lovely, classic [name]Henry[/name]?)

[name]Odette[/name], [name]Ruby[/name], [name]Portia[/name], [name]Ophelia[/name], [name]Violet[/name], [name]Daphne[/name], [name]Jane[/name], [name]Zinnia[/name], [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Opal[/name], etc.–a few other ideas I had but don’t really fit with the five-letter thing. I realize all of these may not be your style (a lot of them probably aren’t, lol), but hopefully something sparked an interest for you!

Good luck!

[name]Kiana[/name] [name]Brynn[/name]
[name]Anika[/name] [name]Grace[/name]
[name]Giada[/name] [name]Marie[/name]

Pretty wide range of names. Sorry if some were repeated. [name]Hope[/name] it helps.

Aw, it’s a shame hubby doesn’t like [name]Willa[/name]'s alliteration. [name]Willa[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] Wight would have been adorable. I don’t think [name]Pearl[/name] is cheesy at all. Ok, so trying to avoid colours (and using [name]Pearl[/name] as a mn :D):

[name]Lucie[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Ciara[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]

I admire your naming style. I like [name]Celia[/name] and [name]Viola[/name] from your list. Here are a few ideas for you that suit your vintage classic naming style. let me know if any appeal.
[name]Henry[/name] and…
[name]Alyce[/name] (ah-leece)

[name]Arden[/name] is my favorite from your list. Others have made great suggestions- I love [name]Maren[/name] and [name]Elise[/name].

My first thought is [name]Fiona[/name] [name]Marie[/name].

I don’t know if this has been mentioned, but what about [name]Lucia[/name]? It’s five letters, and you would be able to use [name]Lucy[/name] as nickname! [name]Lucia[/name] and [name]Henry[/name] just sound so cute together! What about [name]Lucia[/name] [name]Belle[/name], [name]Lucia[/name] [name]Grace[/name], [name]Lucia[/name] [name]Clare[/name]?

Other names you may like…

I hope that I could help you, sorry if you don’t like any of my suggestions. Good luck

[name]Lucia[/name]- [name]Lucy[/name]

Oh, goodness! What a fantastic response! Thanks for all of your suggestions, and I particularly like the derivatives/alternatives.

I’m going to have to sit down with my guys and go over all of these new ideas.

I’m still hopelessly stuck on [name]Agnes[/name], but [name]Henry[/name] thinks [name]Alice[/name] is cooler and his ultimate favorite is [name]Josephine[/name] (his theater class recently did a production of [name]Little[/name] Women and he loved [name]Jo[/name] [“She sooo you!” he says]). Husband is super noncommital at this point and says, “You can name her whatever.” I think he’s still in shock that we’re having another baby at this stage! haha!

I also have a friend with a 13 year old named [name]Henry[/name] and a 3 year old name [name]Samantha[/name]. [name]Samantha[/name] usually goes by either [name]Sammy[/name] or [name]Pixie[/name], though.
