I just found out I’m having another girl and we are stuck on what we’re going to name her. Our first daughter is [name]Julianna[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] and we call her [name]Jules[/name]. What we like in a name:
Not too popular but common enough that people will know it
Prefer a long name that has a good/recognizable nickname
Cutesy nickname is fine, but full name needs to work for an adult. Want to give her lots of options.
Middle name is family name ([name]Jane[/name] is #1, then [name]Marie[/name], then [name]Catherine[/name] depending on how they flow with the first name)
Want it to be as feminine, special, and fun as [name]Julianna[/name]. [name]Don[/name]'t want her to feel short changed for being 2nd.
Some options we’ve come up with but can’t agree on:
[name]Rosalie[/name] ([name]Rosie[/name]) - Might be a little too unusual for our taste. Plus it might make people think of Twilight which I don’t want.
[name]Josephine[/name] ([name]Josie[/name]) - [name]Jules[/name] and [name]Josie[/name] seems like twin names.
[name]Abigail[/name] ([name]Abby[/name]) - Too popular, my husband likes it but it doesn’t feel as girly and special as [name]Julianna[/name]. I just can’t seem to get behind it.
[name]Gabrielle[/name]/[name]Gabriella[/name] ([name]Gabby[/name]) - [name]Julianna[/name] and [name]Gabriella[/name] makes us sound Italian (we’re not).
[name]Samantha[/name] ([name]Sam[/name]) - Too plain.
[name]Caroline[/name] - No real nick name. [name]Don[/name]'t like [name]Carrie[/name] or [name]Cara[/name].
We also toyed with the idea of [name]Jane[/name] as the first name. Full name [name]Jane[/name] [name]Marie[/name] and call her [name]Janey[/name]. But for most of her life she’ll just say her first and last name, no middle and then it sounds a little plain compared to [name]Julianna[/name] which is a mouthful.
I agree [name]Jane[/name] and even [name]Jane[/name] [name]Marie[/name] are a little plain next to [name]Julianna[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] (which is lovely). I like [name]Rosalie[/name] best from the names you listed. [name]Rosie[/name] is a great nn and works well with [name]Julianna[/name]/[name]Jules[/name]. It seems well matched to me in that they are adult names with endearing [name]Rosie[/name] nickname, feminine and special. There are plenty of ways to get to [name]Rosie[/name] if [name]Rosalie[/name] is not exactly right.
[name]Rose[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Rosemary[/name] [name]Jane[/name] - kind of nice to have a double name like [name]Julianna[/name]
[name]Rosalind[/name] [name]Jane[/name]/[name]Marie[/name]
I would love to meet sisters [name]Julianna[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] ([name]Jules[/name]) and [name]Rosemary[/name] [name]Jane[/name] ([name]Rosie[/name])!
Using [name]Gabrielle[/name] with [name]Julianna[/name] wouldn’t give me the impression that your family was Italian. That -a makes all the difference. [name]Do[/name] you favor [name]Gabriella[/name] over [name]Gabrielle[/name], because I like [name]Gabrielle[/name] with [name]Julianna[/name] the best of your original choices.
[name]Just[/name] going to throw several ideas that I have:
[name]Charlotte[/name] (I prefer [name]Lottie[/name], but there is [name]Charlie[/name] too)
[name]Justine[/name] / [name]Justina[/name] ([name]Tina[/name])
[name]Cassandra[/name] ([name]Cass[/name], [name]Cassie[/name] and if you like, the options for [name]Sandra[/name] / [name]Sandy[/name])
[name]Evelyn[/name] ([name]Eve[/name], [name]Evie[/name])
[name]Regina[/name] ([name]Reggie[/name], [name]Gina[/name], even [name]Jeanie[/name]/[name]Genie[/name] — I adore [name]Jules[/name] and [name]Jeanie[/name] together)
[name]Veronica[/name] ([name]Vera[/name], [name]Roni[/name], [name]Nic[/name] / [name]Nikki[/name]) - lots of nickname options, another favorite with [name]Julianna[/name]
[name]Cecilia[/name] ([name]Celia[/name], CeeCee, [name]Lia[/name])
[name]Alyssa[/name] ([name]Ally[/name], Lyss)
[name]Miranda[/name] (Lots of nickname options - [name]Randi[/name], [name]Mandi[/name] / [name]Mindy[/name], [name]Mira[/name], etc)
[name]Alexandra[/name] (Tons of nickname options - [name]Alex[/name], [name]Ally[/name], [name]Lex[/name]/[name]Lexi[/name], etc.)
And [name]Rosemary[/name] / [name]Rosemarie[/name] (gives you the [name]Rose[/name]/[name]Rosie[/name] nickname that you like, and could honor your [name]Marie[/name] too) – [name]Rosemary[/name] [name]Jane[/name] / [name]Rosemarie[/name] [name]Jane[/name] is so polished and wonderfully vintage. I love the vibe it gives off with [name]Julianna[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name].
ETA: I see the pp gwensmom came up with the same idea that I had. I love the point that she made about them both having a double name and love this suggestion even more now.
[name]Julianna[/name] is beautiful, great choice:) And for her sister I would pick:
[name]Rosaline[/name]/[name]Rosalind[/name] - I see you like [name]Rosalie[/name], these are less Twilight alternatives. I advice not to worry about them being unusual because you hear so many different names today and [name]Rosalie[/name] is a familiar one. [name]Rosalind[/name] [name]Marie[/name] or [name]Rosaline[/name] [name]Jane[/name] would be lovely.
[name]Christina[/name] nn [name]Chris[/name]/[name]Christi[/name]/[name]Tina[/name]/smith else. [name]Christina[/name] [name]Jane[/name]? [name]Chris[/name] and [name]Jules[/name] are so pretty together!
[name]Camelia[/name]/[name]Camilla[/name] nn [name]Milly[/name]/[name]Lia[/name] - love this with [name]Julianna[/name].
[name]Alexandra[/name]/[name]Alexandria[/name] nn [name]Alex[/name]/[name]Lexi[/name]/[name]Sasha[/name]/[name]Sadie[/name] - again, love it with sister.
[name]Felicity[/name] nn [name]Flick[/name]/Licy
[name]Sienna[/name] nn [name]Annie[/name]/[name]Sissy[/name] - [name]Sissy[/name] and [name]Jules[/name] sounds like a great sibset:)
[name]Penelope[/name] nn [name]Penny[/name]/[name]Poppy[/name]/[name]Nelly[/name] - [name]Nelly[/name] and [name]Jules[/name], what a dream sister set:)
[name]Valentina[/name] nn [name]Val[/name]/[name]Valya[/name]/[name]Tina[/name]/[name]Lena[/name]. [name]Valentina[/name] [name]Jane[/name] is sooo lovely.
[name]Anastasia[/name] nn [name]Stacy[/name]/[name]Annie[/name]/[name]Stasia[/name] - as feminine and fun as [name]Julianna[/name].
[name]Susannah[/name] nn [name]Susie[/name]/[name]Sue[/name]/[name]Anna[/name]/[name]Annie[/name] - OK, may be a little to close but charming.
And I am second [name]Miranda[/name]. For middle name I would use [name]Jane[/name] because it’s really beautiful and compliments almost every name.
Thank you all so much for your feedback and suggestions!
Some of these have already been vetoed for various reasons (bad association, already know someone close to us with that name, etc.) and my husband had vetoed [name]Rosemary[/name] but I can’t remember why. I’m definitely going to bring it up again. I really like the point that they would both have 2-name first names.
Other suggestions I’ll bring up with my picky husband:
[name]Evelyn[/name]
[name]Veronica[/name]
[name]Alexandra[/name]
[name]Camilla[/name]
[name]Anastasia[/name]
I like your list. With [name]Julianna[/name], my favourite would be [name]Caroline[/name]. My childhood friend use the nn [name]Aline[/name] and I know others who used [name]Ollie[/name] or [name]Oline[/name].
Other ideas:
[name]Michaela[/name]
[name]Agatha[/name]
[name]Vivienne[/name]
[name]Ottilie[/name]
[name]Rosamund[/name]
[name]Genevieve[/name]
[name]Aveline[/name]

I know sisters named [name]Julianna[/name] and [name]Gabriella[/name] and they are not Italian. I love [name]Julianna[/name] and am considering it if our third is a girl. With [name]Julianna[/name], I think you could use
[name]Stella[/name]
[name]Vanessa[/name]
[name]Genevieve[/name]
[name]Vivienne[/name] or [name]Vivien[/name]
[name]Valeria[/name]
I think [name]Julianna[/name] and [name]Gabriella[/name]/[name]Gabrielle[/name] (I prefer the elle ending) sounds great together. [name]Gabrielle[/name] would be a great choice for what you are looking for! I also really like [name]Julianna[/name] and [name]Josephine[/name] together. [name]Jules[/name] and [name]Josie[/name] are great as sisters!
I think [name]Rosalie[/name] and [name]Josephine[/name] both work well with [name]Julianna[/name]!
Other suggestions:
[name]Cassandra[/name] nn [name]Cassie[/name]
[name]Anneliese[/name]/[name]Annabel[/name]/[name]Anastasia[/name] nn [name]Annie[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] nn [name]Lottie[/name]/[name]Charlie[/name]/[name]Cate[/name]
[name]Catalina[/name] nn [name]Cate[/name]
[name]Vivienne[/name] nn [name]Viv[/name]
I like [name]Annabel[/name] the best with [name]Julianna[/name]! Good luck!
I think all of your names are gorgeous. My daughter’s name is actually [name]Julianna[/name], too!
If I had to pick a name for my daughter’s sister from your list, I’d definitely go with [name]Abigail[/name]. It’s classic and I’m in love with the nickname “[name]Abby[/name]”. If you call your daughter “[name]Jules[/name]” then “[name]Jules[/name] and [name]Abby[/name]” sounds perfect in my opinion.
Also, go easy on your “picky” (lol) husband. He’s going to be greatly outnumbered on many decisions in his life… he deserves a say in this one.
Congratulations! I have 2 girls ([name]Isabella[/name] - 4yrs, [name]Leah[/name] - 2yrs) and we’re currently expecting our 3rd child. We’re both hoping for a boy!
[name]How[/name] old is your current daughter? That might help determine whether or not they’ll ever be considered “twins” based on a name. Because nobody thinks that my daughters are twins… they couldn’t look any different… haha.
My DH and I prefer family names, so if any of your names have a family base, I’d lean towards that. But from your list, I’d pick [name]Abigail[/name]. And to agree with the last posting, [name]Abby[/name] and [name]Jules[/name] is beautiful!
Please let me know what you end up going with, because we’re running out of girl names… haha.
[name]Josephine[/name] is one of our top names but [name]Julianna[/name] and her sister will be 13 months apart, and I have a twin sister, so I’m definitely nervous about people thinking they’re twins. We also call [name]Jules[/name] Julesie sometimes and worry that Julesie and [name]Josie[/name] are just too similar.
[name]Abigail[/name] is my husbands favorite. And I agree, [name]Jules[/name] and [name]Abby[/name] are great together. But I just have a hang up against it! I’m not sure what it is.
Unfortunately he won’t budge on [name]Rosemary[/name] and now he’s so in love with [name]Abigail[/name] [name]Rosalie[/name] seems out.
[name]Olivia[/name] and [name]Sofia[/name] are too popular (his words).
We like [name]Caroline[/name] but don’t like any of the nick names.
I love [name]Charlotte[/name] but our best friends have been saying for years that if they have a girl it will be [name]Charlotte[/name] and she’s due a few weeks after me so I could never steal it from them.
So right now we’re between [name]Josephine[/name] and [name]Abigail[/name] (although he doesn’t know I’m considering [name]Abby[/name]). I’ll keep you updated! Thanks for the help!!
[name]Olivia[/name] and [name]Sofia[/name] are too popular? But he likes [name]Abigail[/name]?!?!?!?! They are all top ten. Silly men!
I agree about [name]Josie[/name] sounding too similar. Would you consider [name]Josephine[/name] as a middle name? [name]Abigail[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]? AJ? haha
I like [name]Rosemary[/name] or [name]Abigail[/name] with [name]Julianna[/name].
