I’m back and looking for potential sister names for [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_m]James[/name_m], who goes by PJ. It’s a bit tricky because I want it to work with both [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and PJ.
Here’s my current list. I would love your thoughts and suggestions. Warning: It’s all over the place.
MN:
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Bea[/name_f]
[name_f]Birdie[/name_f]
[name_m]Bowie[/name_m]
[name_m]Fox[/name_m]
[name_m]Grey[/name_m]
Lou/Louise
[name_f]Moon[/name_f]
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] (Maybe as a first with the right nn)
Wild/er
With [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_m]James[/name_m] / PJ my top picks from your list would be:
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_m]Grey[/name_m] or [name_f]Indiana[/name_f] [name_f]Birdie[/name_f]. If you’re open to mix & matching I’d also suggest [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Ripley[/name_f] & [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m] / [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_m]August[/name_m] (with the nn [name_m]Ari[/name_m] or Ettie)
From your list, I’m absolutely loving [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] “Lucky” and [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] “Dot”!
Here’s a few combo pairings that you might like:
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Moon[/name_f]
[name_f]Bernadette[/name_f] [name_m]Grey[/name_m]
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] [name_m]Fox[/name_m]
[name_f]Indiana[/name_f] [name_f]Bea[/name_f]
[name_f]Leonie[/name_f] [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucille[/name_f] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m]
[name_m]Ozzy[/name_m] [name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Summer[/name_f] [name_f]Lou[/name_f]
Some more first name suggestions:
[name_f]Francine[/name_f] (“Frankie” or “Francie”)
[name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] (“Teddy”)
[name_f]Bonnie[/name_f]
[name_f]Georgina[/name_f] (“Georgie” or “Ginny”)
[name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] (“Bex”)
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] (“Corey”)
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f]
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] (“Flicka” or “Fliss”)
[name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] (“Jessie”)
[name_f]Susannah[/name_f] (“Sunny”)
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] (“Tilly”)
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] (“Posy” or “Jo”)
[name_m]Kit[/name_m]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] (“Lottie”)
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]
Ripley / Ozzy - too casual, would use as a nickname or pet’s name (not meaning that in a rough way more in your specific case with the established Penelope)
Leonie / Lucille - too close to Penelope sounds, esp Leonie
Am only partly sold on Dorothy/Dotty - I think it’s that tad too dusty/fusty as we see the more mid century to Gen X names emerge and I would go for a different ending sound to Penelope (they sound singsong together)
Re the rest:
August(e) - love for a girl but I’m not an Auggie fan, PJ is so sparkly and fun to me, while Auggie is a bit sad and pitiful (to me, obv all subjective!)
Beatrix - this is really cute! I slightly prefer Beatrice but I like Beatrix with the pluckish Penelope/PJ!
Bernadette - would use if you want that more clunky cottage core feel, it’s very pretty to me and you could use Betty or Dottie as a nn too.
Indiana - this makes Penelope feel more fresh and “country” - but my only hesitation would be that it could be seen as on the nose given the origins of the word/ state given (native Indian reference), I would choose Diana or Lucinda nn Indie instead (with Lucinda being close to other names you like)
Summer - yes, if you want a more Gen X/Millenial feel to Penelope - which matches PJ really well
I think [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] is exactly what you’re after. [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] is sweet and melodious like [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], while [name_m]Lucky[/name_m] and [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] are both fun and spirited like PJ. I think [name_m]Lucky[/name_m] is a better match for PJ since they’re so unisex but either option is great. [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] is definitely the one to beat.
I think [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] would be particularly good for [name_m]Lucky[/name_m] as it brings in the hard ‘c’ sound. [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] [name_m]Wild[/name_m], [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] [name_m]Fox[/name_m] are my other favourite pairings.
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] would be a very good match for [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] as well but I’m assuming you’ve already thought of the most obvious nicknames. I see [name_f]Scout[/name_f] has already been mentioned, that works well with PJ. Looking further afield, I’d suggest [name_m]Kit[/name_m], [name_m]Sully[/name_m], [name_m]Arlo[/name_m], [name_f]Sally[/name_f] and [name_f]Scottie[/name_f].
[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite middle names are pretty similar; [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_m]Wild[/name_m], [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Lou[/name_f].
Out of your list I like…
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] “Bea”
[name_f]Bernadette[/name_f] “Bernie” (Birdie could work well too)
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] “Dot/Dottie”
[name_f]Lucille[/name_f] “Lucky”
[name_m]Ozzy[/name_m]
(Full name ideas for [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m]: [name_f]Augusta[/name_f], [name_m]Honest[/name_m], Ozzlyn/Ozlynn, Austin/Austen)
Suggestions:
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] nn [name_f]Tillie[/name_f] or [name_f]Mattie[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] nn [name_f]Josie[/name_f] or [name_f]Nina[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] nn [name_f]Bee[/name_f]
Olivia/Caroline nn [name_m]Ollie[/name_m]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] nn [name_m]Arlo[/name_m]
With [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_m]James[/name_m] “PJ”, my first thought was [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Sage[/name_f] nn [name_m]Joey[/name_m]!
I also love [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] from your list!!
Your list of first and middle names is amazing.
I think [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] nn BB/Bebe/Bea would be perfect for PJ’s little sister.
I also adore [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f], [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] and [name_f]Summer[/name_f] as first names. [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] [name_f]Moon[/name_f], [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m], [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] [name_m]Gray[/name_m] and [name_f]Summer[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] would be gorgeous, for example.
Beatix (Bea), [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] (Dottie), [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] (Lulu) all work really well I think! They all fit with [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] or PJ and I think the nicknames for each would fit nicely too!
Middle names for each, my favorite options are [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Moon[/name_f], [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] [name_f]Lou[/name_f], and [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f].
I got interrupted by children so only had time to type out these two combos :
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] nn [name_f]Dottie[/name_f] [name_f]Lou[/name_f]?
I love love love the combo [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lettie[/name_f], and think [name_f]Lettie[/name_f] would sound good with [name_f]Penelope[/name_f].
I like [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_m]Grey[/name_m] or [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] with [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_m]James[/name_m]. I also like [name_f]Bea[/name_f] with PJ.
