My husband and I named our son [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] because we liked that it evoked ideas of leadership and gentleness. It felt down to earth and masculine without being too harsh. We also love that his name has no harsh consonants and so it goes well with our own - [name_f]Paige[/name_f] and [name_m]Jeremy[/name_m].
Now we have a little girl on the way and we are having a hard time finding a name with the same soft sound but with a meaning that conveys the same feeling of leadership and independence and kindness. A lot of girls names seem to be sort of frivolous in their meaning or in the noun names - [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and such. We don’t want a name very popular, which rules out the beautiful [name_f]Grace[/name_f].
I really like [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and love it with names like [name_f]Willow[/name_f], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_u]Harper[/name_u] and [name_f]Harlow[/name_f] but they might not have the meaning that you’re after.
I also like these names and they all have good meanings:
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f]
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and [name_u]Sailor[/name_u]
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and [name_f]Talullah[/name_f]
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and [name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and [name_f]Annabel[/name_f]
[name_m]Shephard[/name_m] and Annaell
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and [name_f]Helena[/name_f]
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and [name_f]Paloma[/name_f]
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f]
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and [name_f]Brianna[/name_f]
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and [name_f]Valencia[/name_f]
I think [name_f]Martha[/name_f] and [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] are my favourites with [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]. If you like the meaning of [name_f]Grace[/name_f], what about [name_f]Mercy[/name_f]?
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and [name_f]May[/name_f]
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and [name_f]Elowen[/name_f]
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and [name_f]Laurel[/name_f]
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and [name_f]Martha[/name_f]
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and [name_f]Mary[/name_f] (if you’re religious this might be quite nice?)
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and [name_u]June[/name_u]
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and [name_u]Wren[/name_u]
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and [name_f]Ruth[/name_f]
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and [name_f]Helen[/name_f]
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and [name_f]Mercy[/name_f]
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and [name_f]Amy[/name_f]
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and [name_f]Miriam[/name_f]
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and [name_u]Marion[/name_u]
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and [name_f]Patience[/name_f] (I like how this is reminiscent of your name, [name_f]Paige[/name_f])
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and [name_f]Naomi[/name_f]
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and [name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and [name_f]Hope[/name_f]
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and [name_f]Alma[/name_f]
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and [name_f]Eve[/name_f]
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f] popped into my mind straight away when I read your post. I think [name_m]Shepard[/name_m] and [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] sound lovely together.
I am loving a lot of these names, the hubs is quite a bit more picky. So far we are liking [name_f]Hyacinth[/name_f] which is a name we looked at before but our families said they thought it would be too unusual for people to know how to spell or pronounce easily and it isba bit frivolous of a name, as it’s just a flower. We also like [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] and I love the history of the name. Hubs really likes [name_f]Martha[/name_f] but I can’t shake the [name_f]Martha[/name_f] Dumptruck reference from my head, although I sometimes like it, too.
I love, love, love the name Mary but I am afraid that we have painted ourselves into a corner with Shepherd as we aren’t very religious and the two names together come across as quite religious.
