[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all
Our daughter’s name is [name_f]Tove[/name_f] (pronounced like [name_f]Tova[/name_f]) and our last name is Hoekstra (pronounced like Hook-struh). We would like to stick to the Scandi theme for our next babe on the way, but my husband and I are having a hard time settling on a name for a potential sister.
My current favorite is [name_f]Marit[/name_f] (Mah-rit), but husband is still considering how he feels about it. We both like [name_f]Annika[/name_f] (rhyming with [name_f]Monica[/name_f]), but I worry that maybe it is getting a bit too common. My husband recently put [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] on the table. I think I like it, but although I am a lifelong, enthusiastic Disney fan (as you can tell from my user name!), I have some concerns about how popular the Frozen movie currently is. There will be at least one more movie coming out as she is growing up, and I would hate for her to resent the connection if she doesn’t share the love that big sis and I have for the ice queen.
Any thoughts, suggestions, etc would be appreciated, on which of the names you think works the best for a sibling, the [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] situation, or even other suggestions. Husband did already veto [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f], which I love
I love [name_f]Marit[/name_f] and think it sounds wonderful with the sister name. [name_f]Annika[/name_f] is nice too. It is more familiar but I don’t see it becoming super-common, depending on where you are. I have long loved [name_f]Siri[/name_f], but unfortunately that would be a bigger problem than [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] at the moment. Another name that would sound nice with [name_f]Tove[/name_f] is [name_f]Britta[/name_f].
[name_f]Siri[/name_f] is lovely. There was a character in one of my favorite books growing up with that name, so I always kind of had it in mind… until I got my first iPhone. I like [name_f]Britta[/name_f] a lot! She sounds spunky, which would definitely be a match for big sis
These are great! Thank you so much for the suggestions. At first glance, I especially dig [name_f]Inga[/name_f], [name_f]Astri[/name_f], and [name_u]Malin[/name_u]. I am totally in love with [name_f]Marit[/name_f], especially with [name_f]Tove[/name_f], so crossing my fingers that my husband comes around.
I have second cousins named [name_f]Annika[/name_f] and [name_f]Marit[/name_f]! Both are beautiful choices.
[name_f]Annika[/name_f] is becoming a bit to popular for my taste, but still not very common. [name_f]Marit[/name_f] however, I am in love with!!!
I think your right to worry about the name [name_f]Elsa[/name_f]. I love the name, love the character, but with the new movie coming out and the huge popularity of the first movie, she may (but hopefully and probably wouldn’t) grow up feeling a little bit like a girl who was named [name_f]Cinderella[/name_f].
Also, from other suggestions, I love Freyja, [name_f]Signy[/name_f], [name_f]Anja[/name_f], [name_f]Mette[/name_f], Runa, and [name_f]Mieke[/name_f]. But having two names ending in the a sound might be too repetitive. My favorite is also [name_f]Marit[/name_f], so I really hope your husband falls in love with it too!!
[name_f]Tove[/name_f] is a lovely name. So many great suggestions and this is a repeat, but my personal favourite is [name_f]Lumi[/name_f]. [name_f]Tove[/name_f] and [name_f]Lumi[/name_f] would make a sweet sibset.
