I desperately need input on girl names. Our daughter is [name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] and this baby girl will either have [name_u]Anne[/name_u], [name_f]Annette[/name_f], or [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] as a middle in honor of her grandmother. Our top choices right now for first names are:
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Hattie[/name_f]) is my favorite from your list with [name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]!
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_u]Anne[/name_u] or [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] [name_u]Anne[/name_u]. Both are lovely.
I like [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] but it’s getting really popular now.
Not so keen on [name_f]Etta[/name_f] with [name_f]Vera[/name_f]. “[name_f]Vera[/name_f] and [name_f]Etta[/name_f]” sounds like a bit of a mouthful I think. I don’t know- I just don’t find it as easy to say as “[name_f]Vera[/name_f] and [name_f]Hattie[/name_f]”.
I think [name_f]Vera[/name_f] and [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] or [name_f]Vera[/name_f] and [name_f]Ada[/name_f] sound really sweet together. I also love the middle name [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] - together with [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] it has this gorgeous golden age actress vibe!
[name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] sure is lovely. Here are my thoughts on your list:
[name_f]Ada[/name_f]-This seems just about perfect w/[name_f]Vera[/name_f]. I think that if you’re annoyed by popularity, this could possibly be rising the charts a bit. I don’t think it’s going to hit top ten or anything, but I’m hearing it more & more. It’s very sweet though. Also, smart & simple. [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] sounds best from your mn choices.
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Hattie[/name_f])-I like [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_u]Anne[/name_u]. I think that [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] is adorable. I’m not personally a huge fan of [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], because it just sounds a bit frumpy to me. I want to like it! It’s a smart sounding classic. It goes well w/[name_f]Vera[/name_f] & is unique.
[name_f]Leonora[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Leni[/name_f])-This seems a bit long w/[name_f]Vera[/name_f], but it’s a cool name. I prefer [name_f]Leora[/name_f] or [name_f]Eleanora[/name_f] myself. [name_f]Leni[/name_f] is not my style though. It reminds me of a weird old guy…like a [name_m]Leonard[/name_m] nn [name_m]Lenny[/name_m].
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Tilly[/name_f])-[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] is kind of cute. It’s not my favorite, but it’s nice enough. I much prefer [name_f]Millie[/name_f] for some reason.
[name_f]Etta[/name_f]-[name_f]Etta[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] is quite nice. [name_f]Vera[/name_f] & [name_f]Etta[/name_f] seem perfect.
A few more ideas:
[name_u]Anne[/name_u] or [name_f]Annette[/name_f] as a fn? [name_f]Vera[/name_f] & [name_f]Annie[/name_f] or [name_f]Vera[/name_f] & [name_f]Nettie[/name_f] would be amazing.
Wow, we have very similar first name lists for girls! Those names are all in my narrowed down top ten (except [name_f]Vera[/name_f] which I also love).
[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite name from your list is [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], but the middle name combo with that is a challenge. [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Annette[/name_f], maybe? I also like [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f].
[name_f]My[/name_f] other ideas are:
[name_u]Juniper[/name_u] [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] (NN [name_u]June[/name_u] or [name_f]Junie[/name_f]…I love the [name_f]Junie[/name_f] B. [name_m]Jones[/name_m] book character)
I love [name_f]Etta[/name_f], my husband likes it but doesn’t love it. And [name_f]Ada[/name_f] is also a favorite but we were worried about it becoming another “[name_f]Ava[/name_f]”. This is a great list of other ideas I’ll have to go over with hubs!
For some reason I was picturing [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_u]Anne[/name_u] instead of [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f], but now that you mention it I’m liking it with [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] too!
Thank you! [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] was our top pick weeks ago. I love how it flows, and think it goes really well with [name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] too, but then we started to worry it was becoming too popular. [name_f]My[/name_f] biggest fear is that it becomes the next “[name_f]Ava[/name_f]”. I have a very common name and I really don’t want my kids to have 4 others of the same name in their classes haha.
Thank you! [name_f]My[/name_f] husband’s late mother was named [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] [name_f]Annette[/name_f], and went by [name_u]Anne[/name_u] or [name_f]Annie[/name_f], so he doesn’t want to use either for a first name but definitely want to honor her.
