[name_m]Hi[/name_m],
My husband and I are stuck on names, and need some help! We have a 17 year old daughter named [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] - we got her name from the Greek myth “[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] and [name_m]Apollo[/name_m]”. We have a little girl on the way and are looking for a name that compliments the name [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]. We are pretty picky, and our daughter is claiming “third parent rights” when it comes to naming since she is so much older. Here’s our wish list:
Must compliment the name [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
We like uncommon names (no top 200 names), but nothing too out there
Some thoughts to go with her name: something old fashioned, something that starts with “D”, another Greek name, something with “ph” in it, or any combination of the above
We had thought about [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], which covered the “ph” and the old fashioned, but the husband isn’t sold on it.
Any help is appreciated!
[name_f]Maxine[/name_f] (Old fashioned, not in the top 1000)
[name_f]Zelda[/name_f] (Old fashioned, not in the top 500)
[name_f]Delphine[/name_f] (Maybe too similar, but contains a ph and starts with D, and not in the top 100)
[name_f]Josephina[/name_f] (Old fashioned, contains a ph, not in the top 1000)
[name_f]Persephone[/name_f] (Greek, contains a ph, not in the top 1000)
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] (Greek, contains a ph, not in the top 200)
[name_f]Philomena[/name_f] (Greek, contains a ph, not in the top 100)
My favorites are [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] and [name_f]Maxine[/name_f]
[name_f]Danae[/name_f]
[name_f]Phila[/name_f]
[name_f]Dulce[/name_f]
[name_u]Nike[/name_u] (if you’re brave enough considering the shoe brand haha)
[name_f]Juno[/name_f]
[name_f]Diana[/name_f]
[name_f]Diantha[/name_f]
Philomine/[name_f]Philomina[/name_f] (again, point fors bravery if you use these hahaha)
[name_f]Dorothea[/name_f]
[name_f]Ianthe[/name_f]
[name_f]Letha[/name_f] (ignoring his unfortunate meaning)
[name_f]Sybil[/name_f]
[name_f]Thisbe[/name_f]
Of this list, the ones that I like the most are:
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] and [name_f]Danae[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] and [name_f]Diantha[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] and [name_f]Thisbe[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] and [name_f]Sybil[/name_f]
My second daughter is named [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] my oldest daughters name is [name_f]Norah[/name_f] which everyone loves, they seem to fit really well together. (It’s a shame it’s getting more popular since we had her.) If the baby I’m expecting is a girl she will be [name_f]Sybil[/name_f].
I missed [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] the first time I read through the comments! I love [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] so much that we chose it for [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]'s middle name [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] to be exact.
My mom is named [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]. She has four siblings, one of which is a brother. Her sisters are named [name_f]Nikk[/name_f]! (would’ve been [name_f]Nicole[/name_f] but the maiden name sounds like [name_m]Cole[/name_m]), An@stasia “[name_f]Annie[/name_f]”, and [name_f]Ellen[/name_f].
I think [name_f]Ellen[/name_f] or any of its variants sound great with [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]. [name_f]Helena[/name_f] would be cool. My grandmother is named [name_f]Stella[/name_f], which I think sounds fabulous with [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]. As a Greek-American, I am a lover of Greek names, so here are some ideas:
[name_f]Ariadne[/name_f]
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f]
[name_f]Selene[/name_f]
[name_f]Thisbe[/name_f]
[name_f]Nyx[/name_f]
[name_f]Eugenia[/name_f] (maybe too dusty with [name_f]Daphne[/name_f])
[name_f]Athena[/name_f]
[name_f]Nephele[/name_f] (Neh-fel-eee, huge crush of mine, comes with cute nns like [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] and [name_f]Elfie[/name_f])
[name_f]Susanna[/name_f]
[name_f]Petra[/name_f]
[name_f]Eulalia[/name_f]
[name_f]Cassiopeia[/name_f]
[name_f]Calliope[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f]
[name_f]Mariana[/name_f]
[name_f]Marina[/name_f] (would be awesome with [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]. What an awesome sibset)
[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]
[name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Thalia[/name_f]
[name_f]Olympia[/name_f]
Magdelena
[name_f]Marcella[/name_f]/Markella
[name_f]Nina[/name_f]
Good luck!
I think [name_f]Diana[/name_f] goes wonderfully with [name_f]Daphne[/name_f].
Other suggestions I think it could work are:
[name_f]Helene[/name_f] or [name_f]Helena[/name_f]
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]
[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_f]Ariadne[/name_f]
[name_f]Cassandra[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Leda[/name_f]
[name_f]Selene[/name_f] or [name_f]Selena[/name_f]
[name_f]Athena[/name_f]
My husband and I go back and forth between [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] and [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] for our first daughter. If we have two girls, they will definitely be [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] and [name_f]Clementine[/name_f].
Other names we like, but probably won’t use (we only want two children, so if we get two girls, they have their names):
[name_u]Vivian[/name_u]
[name_f]Cecelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] (though we ended up calling our cat this)
[name_f]Zadie[/name_f]
[name_f]Willa[/name_f]
[name_f]Pippa[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
