Sister name for Lily- Eloise, Freya or Margot

We are just a few weeks away from the birth of our second daughter and still can’t decide, please help!

Our first daughter’s name is Lily Annabelle. Also worth noting, we live in England (I’m American and my husband is British).

We’ve narrowed it down to Eloise, Freya or Margot.

What vibe does each one give you? Feel like I’ve thought about it so much that I can’t think clearly anymore!

We also need help with middle names. We are leaning towards Loretta in honor of my mom who passed away recently but not sure if it goes with all 3 options?

  • Eloise Loretta
  • Freya Loretta
  • Margot Loretta

So we also like:

  • Eloise: Rose, Grace, Charlotte, Amelia
  • Freya Eloise
  • Margot Amelia

Thank you! :folded_hands:

  • Eloise
  • Freya
  • Margot

I actually think you’re in a great position [name_f][/name_f] having already narrowed down to three names you both agree on. The ideal is being led by our intuition towards a single name, but sometimes we need to narrow down the options another way.

[name_f][/name_f]

You could use the middle name to narrow down your options. [name_f]Loretta[/name_f] would be a beautiful and touching choice in memory of your mum. It’s also a lovely name in it’s own right. If you lock in [name_f]Loretta[/name_f] as the middle name, where does that leave your short list?

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Loretta[/name_f] has the best sound to my ears and the most complementary styles. [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] [name_f]Loretta[/name_f] is slightly cumbersome with each being three letters and repeating ‘e,’ ‘l’ and ‘o’ sounds. [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Loretta[/name_f] clashes a little with the two different styles in my mind.

[name_f][/name_f]

You could also spend a few days trying out each name, as if you have already made your decision. The idea is to really commit to the name for the time period and then reflect on your feelings for each name at the end. See if any names rise to the top or just feel right for this baby. It’s also really normal to feel sadness about leaving some of your favourite names on the shelf.

[name_f][/name_f]

They are all great choices and you will likely be happy with any of them. So trust that you are making a good, well-considered decision no matter what name you choose.

Congratulations on being so close to meeting your second daughter! :cherry_blossom:

[name_f][/name_f]

I think all three names are beautiful, but they each carry slightly different vibes:

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Eloise[/name_f] feels elegant, timeless, and a little bit French-chic. It pairs beautifully with [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f], since both have that soft, classic charm.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Freya[/name_f] is mythic and strong, it gives me a fresh, modern, but still graceful vibe.
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Margot[/name_f] feels sophisticated and stylish, with a vintage edge that’s really fashionable again.

[name_f][/name_f]

As for [name_f]Loretta[/name_f] in the middle spot, I think it’s lovely that you want to honor your mom. To me:

[name_f][/name_f]
    [name_f][/name_f]
  • [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] [name_f]Loretta[/name_f] flows well and feels lyrical.
  • [name_f][/name_f]
  • [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Loretta[/name_f] has repeating “a” endings, but it’s still pretty and heartfelt.
  • [name_f][/name_f]
  • [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Loretta[/name_f] feels balanced and strong.
  • [name_f][/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f]

From your other options, I especially love [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] (so classic), [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] (gorgeous flow), and [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] (very elegant).

[name_f][/name_f]

If you want something that ties to [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f], [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] works especially well as a sister name [name_f][/name_f]- but [name_f]Freya[/name_f] and [name_f]Margot[/name_f] bring such different personalities that it really depends on the “vibe” you’re going for. Honestly, you can’t go wrong!

Thank you both so much for taking the time to send such thoughtful responses, it’s so helpful getting an outside take after so much overthinking!

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Freya[/name_f] was one of the few my husband contributed and I do like it but it’s more common here than the US and maybe not one I would have picked on my own so It’s interesting to hear the style to describe with it as that’s probably less of what I’m going for.

[name_f][/name_f]

I agree if we use [name_f]Loretta[/name_f] as the middle name that [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Loretta[/name_f] sounds best. [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] [name_f]Loretta[/name_f] is quite long but if we are set on the sentimentality of it then that’s not a deal breaker.

[name_f][/name_f]

@RadioactiveSquid[name_f][/name_f] [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] has a floral tie in with [name_f]Lily[/name_f] without being too much as a floral first name. We would use [name_f]Elle[/name_f] as a nickname. @kachenka[name_f][/name_f] if we go for [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] and don’t use [name_f]Loretta[/name_f] as the middle name, which do you think goes the best?

[name_f][/name_f]

That’s a great idea to try them out verbally for a few days at a time each, we will definitely try that!

[name_f]Eloise[/name_f] → elegant and sophisticated but sweet and on trend too

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Freya[/name_f] → strong and powerful but with a gentle, approachable sound

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Margot[/name_f] → vintage and cosy but spirited and bright too

[name_f][/name_f]

While they’re all great options, if I was to rank them fave to least with [name_f]Lily[/name_f]: [name_f]Margot[/name_f], [name_f]Freya[/name_f], [name_f]Eloise[/name_f]

[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f]

For middles, I like [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Loretta[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- sweet and sassy.

[name_f][/name_f]

Might not be your thing, but you could consider a name inspired by [name_f]Loretta[/name_f]:

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Lottie[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Lotta[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Lettie[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Lora[/name_f] / [name_f]Laura[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Laurel[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Lauren[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Lorena[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Elora[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Lorelei[/name_f]

[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f]

Inspired by your options:

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Eloise[/name_f] [name_f]Rosetta[/name_f] came to mind [name_f][/name_f]- like the end of [name_f]Loretta[/name_f]? [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is nice too.
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Eloise[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] [name_f]Ruby[/name_f], and [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] came to mind

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] is quite nice. [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Celine[/name_f], [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] are some others.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is quite charming and solid. [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Elora[/name_f], [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Freya[/name_f], [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Juniper[/name_f], [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] came to mind.

I completely agree that the length of [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] [name_f]Loretta[/name_f] doesnt need to be a deal breaker if you go down that route. Family names have more value than the sound or flow of the middle name.

[name_f][/name_f]

It’s just one way of looking at things. If you try eliminating options one way but feel a little disappointed in the outcome, or your thoughts keep going back to another option – you have gained useful information.

[name_f][/name_f]

I wonder if [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] is edging slightly ahead of your other options based on your comments just now. In terms of style, I think [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] is the closest match for [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. I enjoy the sound and look [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] with [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] the most. They are both vintage darlings, with soft lilting ‘l’ sounds but neither is overly dainty.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Eloise[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] would be my runner-up. It feels a little more classic but ultimately I prefer the variety of sounds [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] adds, whereas [name_f]Rose[/name_f] repeats the ‘z’ ending sound.

[name_f][/name_f]

If you and your husband individually rank your short list, would you be able to elminate any names? If any option is ranked last, you could take it out of the running – that could narrow things down very quickly. For instance, if today you ranked [name_f]Freya[/name_f] last and he ranked [name_f]Margot[/name_f] last, you’re left with [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] as the fairest choice. Then you could sit with this information and see if you feel more confident about it in a few days. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if you don’t make any final decisions until your daughter is born, you hopefully have greater clarity.

I like how all three bring out a different side to [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] personal choice would be [name_f]Margot[/name_f], I like that it has a vintage sound and plays on that side of [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. I also like that it has its own distinct sound next to [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. While I like [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], I think [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] together might be easy to get in a muddle with the shared -el sound, but this might just be a me issue. I do really like the name [name_f]Freya[/name_f] and just like [name_f]Margot[/name_f] it sounds distinct. [name_f]My[/name_f] only consideration with [name_f]Freya[/name_f] would be its popularity ranking.

[name_f][/name_f]

As for middle names I think [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Loretta[/name_f] is a lovely honour and flows nicely too. If you decided on an alternative middle name I think [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] would work nicely together to combine two of your favourites.

L1ly Annabell3 is so sweet :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

[name_f][/name_f]

I think you’re in a great position narrowing the list down to a top three and such a lovely top three the list is elegant, feminine and stylistically cohesive with L1ly Annabell3.

[name_f][/name_f]

From the list I love [name_f]Eloise[/name_f]! [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] is elegant, romantic, has a sweet summery feel along with literacy connotations. [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] [name_f]Loretta[/name_f] feels strong, unexpected and has a pretty melodic feel. Regarding your other middle name options I find [name_f]Rose[/name_f] (beautiful of course) but a little expected and filler ish especially in the UK where everyone it seems either has the middle name [name_f]Rose[/name_f] or has a hyphenated name featuring [name_f]Rose[/name_f] like Ava-Rose for example. [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is elegant however does feel similar to [name_f]Rose[/name_f] in feel. I love [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] with [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] she’s elegant, preppy and charming very sweet combination. Finally [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is pretty but feels a little choppy paired with [name_f]Eloise[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] favourites are [name_f]Loretta[/name_f] + [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f].

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps

With LiLy Ann@belle, I like …
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Eloise[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Eloise[/name_f]

These are all beautiful!

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Eloise[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- such a sweet and stylish name, and I love the nn potential. [name_f][/name_f] I don’t, however, like how many similar sounds there is between [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], but I think picking a nn out might help with this… [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], or [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Lou[/name_f]?

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- she got my vote in the end, I just love saying [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Freya[/name_f] together! [name_f][/name_f] I know she’s more common in [name_f]England[/name_f], though, so she might not feel as memorable, if that’s what you’re going for?

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- honestly, probably the best match stylistically… I just can’t bring myself to love her, personally. [name_f][/name_f] This is my favorite with the middle [name_f]Loretta[/name_f] though!

[name_f][/name_f]

I also love [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], and [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] from your other options!

[name_f][/name_f]

Good luck!
