I am expecting my second girl (in about two weeks, actually…yikes!), and was wondering your opinions on the name [name]Madelyn[/name] in general. And more specifically, what do you think of the name [name]Madelyn[/name] with an older sister [name]Addison[/name]? Is it too risky that I will end up with an [name]Addi[/name] and a [name]Maddi[/name], or that people will call one or the other [name]Maddison[/name], getting the two girls’ names confused? So far I have been pretty successful at keeping [name]Addison[/name] as [name]Addison[/name] and not [name]Addi[/name]…but she’s only 18 months old…so I think that that might change. Any input would be helpful as this name has come up kind of last minute…obviously.
That is way too close for comfort! I would not do that if I were you. I can only imagine how many times they would get mixed up. [name]Addalyn[/name] and [name]Madison[/name] or wha… Oh yeah, [name]Addison[/name] and [name]Madelyn[/name]. That would definitely annoy me. Yikes. Yes, [name]Maddi[/name] and [name]Addi[/name] could easily happen as well. I would pass on [name]Madelyn[/name]. Best of luck!
[name]Addison[/name] and [name]Madelyn[/name] are too close. [name]Addi[/name] and [name]Maddi[/name] are the automatic nicknames and it will inevitably cause confussion.
Yeah, too close! What other names have you considered?
Yeah they are too close in my opinion. I would move [name]Madelyn[/name] (or [name]Madeline[/name]/[name]Madeleine[/name]) to the middle name spot. It works well with many first names. Good luck!
Thank you all. I agree. And we have actually decided on [name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Kate[/name] and have been calling her this since about week 18. I just get anxious about chosing the “wrong” name as the time draws near to write it on her birth certificate…and toss around some last minute options, but I think [name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Kate[/name] it will be. Thank you again for your input!
love this name!
If the nns are used, [name]Addi[/name] and [name]Emme[/name] are not bad at all. My older sisters are [name]Melissa[/name] and [name]Christine[/name], yup, [name]Missy[/name] and [name]Chrissy[/name]!
[name]Addison[/name] and [name]Madelyn[/name] are definitely too close for sisters. It isn’t just that – together they seem very 1990s.
This is ridiculous (sorry no offense) but [name]Addison[/name] wasnt even around in the 90’s and [name]Madelyn[/name] was getting discovered in the late 90’s at best, but even then it wasnt in high use. There was a poll on if [name]Madelyn[/name] was dated and the majority said no. So to say the two together are 90’s has no backing behind it.
To answer the posters question, [name]Addison[/name] and [name]Madelyn[/name] are nice together and they sound good together, however the possible problem of maddie and addie are there, however many parents like names like this. Many twins are named like that. Its all personal taste. I think nn’s are dictated by parents. My name could have had a popular nn but I always went by the full name because that is what my parents used and if I tried using a nn it never felt right. Best of luck to you! [name]Emmeline[/name] is super cute too!
I really like [name]Emmeline[/name]! [name]Lovely[/name] choice, and one that won’t give you tongue-twisters as you call out your girls’ names. It’s a keeper!
Great decision! [name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Kate[/name] is a beautiful name
