So Hubby picked his Norse names. Opinion?

So Hubby made his decisions about which Norse names he’d like to use as the double middle names. All but 2 have Norse middles, so he would like your opinions about how these work and if you don’t think they work, make some more suggestions  We don’t care so much about things ending or beginning with the same letters or whether the flow is perfect.

So opinions please?

[name]Persephone[/name] [name]Elysia[/name] [name]Willow[/name]
[name]Amelia[/name] [name]Zephyrine[/name] [name]Saga[/name]
[name]Genevieve[/name] [name]Sophia[/name] [name]Signe[/name]
[name]Cassandra[/name] [name]Xiomara[/name] Eisa

[name]Damien[/name] [name]Quillon[/name] [name]Loki[/name]
[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Dante[/name] [name]Griffin[/name]
[name]Asher[/name] Lykaion [name]Soren[/name]
[name]Raphael[/name] Zarex [name]Rune[/name]

I really like all of these, but my favorites are:

[name]Persephone[/name] [name]Elysia[/name] [name]Willow[/name]
[name]Amelia[/name] [name]Zephyrine[/name] [name]Saga[/name]
[name]Genevieve[/name] [name]Sophia[/name] [name]Signe[/name]

[name]Damien[/name] [name]Quillon[/name] [name]Loki[/name]
[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Dante[/name] [name]Griffin[/name]
[name]Asher[/name] Lykaion [name]Soren[/name]
[name]Raphael[/name] Zarex [name]Rune[/name]

I’m not sure how to pronounce Lykaion…is it just lie-kai-on or la-kai-on? I’m not too horribly keen on Zarex because it sounds somewhat medicinal (I think I’m thinking of Xanex). As middle names though, they’re fine.

Despite that, I really like all of these a lot. If I had to pick favorites, I think I’d choose [name]Persephone[/name] [name]Elysia[/name] [name]Willow[/name] (just sounds divine!) and [name]Alexander[/name] [name]Dante[/name] [name]Griffin[/name]. Tough choice though.

Lykaion is like lih-kai-on. The Greek names (Lykaion, Zarex, etc) are important and have meaning and I know they’re not everyones cup of tea, but that’s why the weirder ones are in the middle ^_^.

I’m glad 2 of you like them, I just wish more people would respond…sigh

Hello dantea! Goodness, those kids’ll have so much name! Lol. I actually really like these combos. I was expecting not to, but I guess because they were already quite out-there adding another name isn’t such a big step!

The only Norse name I’m not as keen on is [name]Saga[/name], but that’s because there’s a company called [name]Saga[/name] in the UK which caters to over-50’s (insurance, holidays, care and lifestyle, etc) and that’s my first association with the name. That’s not going to be a problem in the US anyway though. I really like Eisa (how is it pronounced?), [name]Signe[/name], [name]Loki[/name], [name]Soren[/name] and [name]Rune[/name]. And I’m really glad not to see [name]Odin[/name].

[name]Persephone[/name] is such a beautiful name, I love it and the combo is just gorgeous and definitely my favourite of your girls names. [name]Persephone[/name] [name]Elysia[/name] [name]Willow[/name] flows beautifully and rolls of the tongue, utter perfection [name]IMO[/name].

I don’t mind [name]Amelia[/name] it’s just so popular here in the UK, and I really don’t lie [name]Zephyrine[/name] [name]Saga[/name] with it at all, they see, so strong and almost masculine to me, sorry.

[name]Genevieve[/name] [name]Sophia[/name] is beautiful, but I’m not keen of [name]Signe[/name], especially as I dislike alliteration within names. The whole combo isn’t too bad and with the ever so lovely combo of [name]Genevieve[/name] [name]Sophia[/name], I don’t think [name]Signe[/name] would sway to say drop the combo.

The last combo I really don’t like, sorry. [name]Cassandra[/name] is very much a mumsy name in the UK. I don’t min [name]Xiomara[/name] but I’m not sure how to pronoucen Eisa.

[name]Damien[/name] [name]Quillon[/name] [name]Loki[/name] looks great, and is a strong and handsome boys name even if I’m not keen on [name]Damien[/name], I like the [name]Quillon[/name] [name]Loki[/name] part.

[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Dante[/name] [name]Griffin[/name] is lovely, not a lover of [name]Alexander[/name] and would prefer [name]Dante[/name] [name]Griffin[/name] [name]Alexander[/name] but the names go well together.

[name]Asher[/name] Lykaion [name]Soren[/name] is great! I adore the name [name]Asher[/name], and [name]Soren[/name] is lovely. Lykaion is fine but it doesn’t flow that well alongside [name]Soren[/name] [name]IMO[/name].

[name]Raphael[/name] Zarex is cool, and very interesting. I don’t like [name]Rune[/name] though.

[name]Love[/name] [name]Genevieve[/name] [name]Sophie[/name] and [name]Persephone[/name] [name]Elysia[/name] [name]Willow[/name] for the girls, and for the most part all the boys names work well.

I knew I’d seen Saga somewhere else, all I could think of was Sega at first (the video games company).

I love…

[name]Persephone[/name] [name]Elysia[/name] [name]Willow[/name]
[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Dante[/name] [name]Griffin[/name]

I like…

[name]Amelia[/name] [name]Zephyrine[/name] [name]Saga[/name]
[name]Genevieve[/name] [name]Sophia[/name] [name]Signe[/name]
[name]Damien[/name] [name]Quillon[/name] [name]Loki[/name]
[name]Asher[/name] Lykaion [name]Soren[/name]
[name]Raphael[/name] Zarex [name]Rune[/name]

I dislike…

[name]Cassandra[/name] [name]Xiomara[/name] Eisa

lol No one likes [name]Cassandra[/name]! It’s okay, I don’t mind. [name]Xiomara[/name] is pronounced zee-oh-mahr-uh and Eisa is pronounced ice-uh.

for the person that said that Zephyrine sounds manly, there are 2 princesses with Zephyrine.

As said, I don’t mind if the flow is off, and I don’t live in the UK so I’ve never heard of the [name]Saga[/name] company so it’s just a Norse [name]Goddess[/name] to me  I’m glad to see that most everybody is liking at least a majority of the names or pieces of them. That’s good enough for me. No ones going to hear all those names all at once.

Thanks for the responses! Anyone else want to comment?

I really like [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Zephyrine[/name]- but I think adding [name]Saga[/name] might be overkill. [name]Persephone[/name] [name]Elysia[/name] [name]Willow[/name] is really sweet. [name]Elysia[/name] was actually one of my favorite names for the longest time! I like [name]Genevieve[/name] [name]Sophia[/name], but personally don’t love [name]Signe[/name]. It’s just not my style, really. [name]Cassandra[/name] [name]Xiomara[/name] Eisa is very elegant and pretty. So my favorite is probably [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Zephyrine[/name], minus the [name]Saga[/name]. If you really like the [name]Saga[/name] part, then I have to go with [name]Persephone[/name] [name]Elysia[/name] [name]Willow[/name].

For boys, I think [name]Damien[/name] might be a difficult name to grow up with, and anyone who has ever seen “The Omen” will probably think of a mischevious little kid. Same with [name]Dante[/name] and [name]Dante[/name]'s Inferno, but it won’t be half as bad if it’s just a middle name. But I love [name]Alexander[/name]- classy, strong, and timeless. [name]Asher[/name] is really cool. I like it even better than [name]Alexander[/name]. [name]Raphael[/name] may have some pronounciation issues along the way, but I think it may be worth it.

That’s a long way of saying: I like these names.

By the way, will you be giving your kids nicknames or will they go by their full first names? I’m curious.

for the person that said [name]Damien[/name] might be hard to grow up with – [name]Do[/name] you know how many [name]Jason[/name]'s I’ve met and no one ever seemed to think of Friday the 13th? I’ve met [name]Freddy[/name]'s that didn’t get [name]Freddy[/name] Kruger and I’ve met a female [name]Regan[/name] who didn’t get Exorcist. My point being, if we avoided every name used in scary movies, then we would be missing out on some pretty nice names! ^^
Also, I don’t necessarily love the Norse names, but I picked a lot of the others and my husband has a close connection to Norse culture and religion, so I said he could pick whichever Norse names he loved and use them as a second middle. I love all the Norse names but not necessarily in the combos, but the flow isn’t as important as making my husband happy. ^
^ (But that’s why they’re in the second middle and not the 1st or first name snicker)

@eskay – I’m planning nicknames I love, but that doesn’t mean they will go by it often or that they’ll like them. The nicknames would be: [name]Damien[/name] nn [name]Quill[/name] or full name(I don’t like any nicknames for [name]Damien[/name] plus we both write so that’s very cool), [name]Alexander[/name] nn [name]Xander[/name], [name]Asher[/name] nn [name]Ash[/name], [name]Raphael[/name] nn [name]Rex[/name] or full name, [name]Persephone[/name] nn Sephy or full name, [name]Amelia[/name] will usually go by the full name, but my husband might call her [name]Zephyr[/name] sometimes is what he says, [name]Genevieve[/name] nn [name]Evie[/name], [name]Cassandra[/name] nn [name]Cassia[/name] or [name]Xia[/name]

These are some interesting names!

[name]Persephone[/name] [name]Elysia[/name] [name]Willow[/name] - this is rather beautiful
[name]Amelia[/name] [name]Zephyrine[/name] [name]Saga[/name] - It’s nice.
[name]Genevieve[/name] [name]Sophia[/name] [name]Signe[/name] I love the first two names, I am not sure about [name]Signe[/name] in combination with them.
[name]Cassandra[/name] [name]Xiomara[/name] Eisa I liove [name]Cassandra[/name]! (and the nn [name]Cassie[/name]). Not sure if I like it with [name]Xiomara[/name]. Eisa is nice.

I like all of these: [name]Damien[/name] and [name]Alexander[/name] are my favorites.
[name]Damien[/name] [name]Quillon[/name] [name]Loki[/name]
[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Dante[/name] [name]Griffin[/name]
[name]Asher[/name] Lykaion [name]Soren[/name]
[name]Raphael[/name] Zarex [name]Rune[/name]

I used to think [name]Persephone[/name] was too long and hard-to-spell to be usable…and then I found Nameberry! It is a beautiful name.
For a girl, I’d choose [name]Persephone[/name] [name]Elysia[/name] [name]Willow[/name], and for a boy, [name]Asher[/name] Lykaion [name]Soren[/name].
Best wishes!

[name]Persephone[/name] [name]Elysia[/name] [name]Willow[/name] - Not a fan of the FN myself, but the combo is lovely
[name]Amelia[/name] [name]Zephyrine[/name] [name]Saga[/name] -[name]Saga[/name] is NMS, if you had [name]Willow[/name] then I prefer that combo [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Zephyrine[/name] [name]Willow[/name]
[name]Genevieve[/name] [name]Sophia[/name] [name]Signe[/name] -Cute, not sure how you say [name]Signe[/name]
[name]Cassandra[/name] [name]Xiomara[/name] Eisa -very unusual but cool

[name]Damien[/name] [name]Quillon[/name] [name]Loki[/name] -like it
[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Dante[/name] [name]Griffin[/name] -[name]Love[/name] it: especially as nn [name]Xander[/name]
[name]Asher[/name] Lykaion [name]Soren[/name] -Cool
[name]Raphael[/name] Zarex [name]Rune[/name] -cool

Your name styles are very different to mine, very unusual choices. I would probably only use [name]Alexander[/name] or [name]Amelia[/name] myself, and maybe [name]Elysia[/name], I like the fact that the names are well thought out and interesting with meaning to you both. While unusual the first names are more common- good plan. The middle names are uncommon but and at least they are not trendy names with odd spellings.

Good luck TTC.

Oooh! I still love [name]Persephone[/name] [name]Elysia[/name] [name]Willow[/name], [name]Genevieve[/name] [name]Sophia[/name] [name]Signe[/name], and [name]Alexander[/name] [name]Dante[/name] [name]Griffin[/name]. All the others are nice, just a bit too out-there for me still.

I like these, they have just the right mix. What do you think of switching [name]Sophia[/name] and [name]Xiomara[/name], so they’d be [name]Genevieve[/name] [name]Xiomara[/name] [name]Signe[/name] and [name]Cassandra[/name] [name]Sophia[/name] Eisa, and switching [name]Saga[/name] and [name]Willow[/name], so they’d be [name]Persephone[/name] [name]Elysia[/name] [name]Saga[/name] and [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Zephyrine[/name] [name]Willow[/name]? I think that would be so pretty. As it is, though, [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Zephyrine[/name] [name]Saga[/name] is my fav for girls, and [name]Alexander[/name] [name]Dante[/name] [name]Griffin[/name] for boys.

The first names and first middle names are set, but thanks for the suggestions. [name]Persephone[/name] is my #1 girls name I’ll use for our first daughter, so [name]Elysia[/name] and [name]Willow[/name] have to stay, they have the most meaning. And other than that, I just generally don’t like the way the hard sounding [name]Xiomara[/name] sounds next to the super soft [name]Genevieve[/name]. I don’t mind the alliteration, so I don’t mind it staying the same.

Also, to emiliaj, [name]Signe[/name] is said sig-nee (the variant spelling is [name]Signy[/name] if that helps).

[name]Persephone[/name] [name]Elysia[/name] [name]Willow[/name]- Amazing. My favourite
[name]Amelia[/name] [name]Zephyrine[/name] [name]Saga[/name]- I love [name]Saga[/name]. It’s kind of popular in [name]Sweden[/name] so it is a GP of mine:) # 27 on Swedish top 100
[name]Genevieve[/name] [name]Sophia[/name] [name]Signe[/name]- [name]Signe[/name] would be pronounced something like [name]SING[/name]-Ne, at least in [name]Sweden[/name] and Norway. It’s pretty, but not my favourite. #38
[name]Cassandra[/name] [name]Xiomara[/name] Eisa- Eisa is new to me, I’ve never heard it but it looks and sounds pretty. When I google it, it says that Eisa is a male muslim name. I have no idea. [name]How[/name] about Disa? Disa means something like goddess, ‘diser’ were female gods.

[name]Damien[/name] [name]Quillon[/name] [name]Loki[/name]- Swedish version Loke is # 68 for boys and rising. It has a nice sound to it, but [name]Loki[/name] was not very nice;)
[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Dante[/name] [name]Griffin[/name]- handsome
[name]Asher[/name] Lykaion [name]Soren[/name]- [name]Soren[/name] is okay, not my favourite but not bad either. Sören/Søren would be the Swedish/Norwegian/Danish versions.
[name]Raphael[/name] Zarex [name]Rune[/name]- I really don’t like [name]Rune[/name], I’m sorry to say. It sounds a bit better in English than in Swedish, but it is very ‘old man’ here.

As for suggestions:
Disa, [name]Inga[/name]/[name]Ingela[/name], [name]Eira[/name] (goddess of health), [name]Idun[/name] (goddess of eternal youth), [name]Freja[/name], Fenja, Alfhild, Vanadis, Embla (the first woman in Norse mythology) or Frigg (all female deities or female names from the Viking era).
[name]Njord[/name], [name]Tyr[/name], Brage, Heimdall, [name]Vidar[/name], [name]Vale[/name], [name]Ull[/name] och Forsete were all male gods. I almost suggested Balder, but that wouldn’t be kind to an English speaking kid, would it:D

I hope this was helpful. Good luck:)

@ Svea – Eisa is a muslim name? I found it on legitbabynames which is run by a fellow member here, so I trusted it, but I’ll look into it more. Thanks for telling me. And I do like Søren the best, but i’m not sure how to do the line in the o on my keyboard so I copied and pasted yours ^_^. And [name]Loki[/name]'s just misunderstood. At least he always fixes the problems he causes.

As for your suggestions, we actually considered several of the, – [name]Eira[/name], [name]Idun[/name] (or the variation that’s in my Norse mythology book, [name]Iduna[/name]), [name]Freja[/name]/[name]Freya[/name], Brage (if it’s the same as Bragi and I would love to know how to actually pronounce this), and i like Balder (the name and the mythology) but yeah, it wouldn’t be nice in English.

So maybe I’ll reapproach [name]Cody[/name] about some of these (like Eisa)
