As someone who has never read the books or seen the movies, I’m only really aware of [name]Bella[/name], [name]Edward[/name] and [name]Jacob[/name] as being Twilight names (and it seems to have done more for [name]Bella[/name] and [name]Jacob[/name] than [name]Edward[/name]). But I’ve seen it associated with others now, too, like [name]Esme[/name]. Can someone please enlighten me? I want a full list of names that people (might) associate with Twilight. I probably won’t strike a name from my list just because of this, but I do want to be aware of it! Thanks, berries!
[name]Isabella[/name]/[name]Bella[/name]
[name]Jacob[/name]
[name]Edward[/name]
[name]Esme[/name]
[name]Rosalie[/name]
[name]Carlisle[/name]
[name]Jasper[/name]
[name]Alice[/name]
[name]Emmett[/name]
Those are the names of the main characters. The only ones that remind me of Twilight are [name]Esme[/name] and [name]Carlisle[/name] because they’re not used at all in real life.
I read the books on vacation a few years ago, so don’t remember them all, but here goes.
Apart from what you mentioned, there is [name]Edward[/name]'s family: [name]Carlisle[/name] (I think…) and [name]Esme[/name], and the other “kids” are [name]Alice[/name], [name]Rosalie[/name], [name]Jasper[/name], and [name]Emmett[/name]. All those names got a boost in popularity, probably both due to Twilight series and them fitting in with the trend of old-names-made-new. I don’t think of those names as intrinsically linked to Twilight or anything, so I’d consider them all usable.
There’s a bunch of other vampires that are minor characters, but I can’t remember them.
And of course, there’s [name]Renesmee[/name]…
The main ones I’ve heard are:
[name]Isabella[/name]/[name]Bella[/name]
[name]Charlie[/name]
[name]Phil[/name]
[name]Renee[/name]
Renesme (probably a misspelling, but they shouldn’t have given their daughter a made-up mashed-up name in the first place)
[name]Jessica[/name]
[name]Mike[/name]
[name]Angela[/name]
[name]Justin[/name]?
Vampires:
[name]Carlisle[/name]
[name]Esme[/name]
[name]Alice[/name]
[name]Jasper[/name]
[name]Edward[/name]
[name]Emmett[/name]
[name]Rosalie[/name]
[name]James[/name]
[name]Victoria[/name]
Wolves:
[name]Jacob[/name]
[name]Embry[/name]?
[name]Sam[/name]
[name]Seth[/name]
[name]Emily[/name]
[name]Leah[/name]
…that’s all I can think of. It’s been a long time since I’ve had to deal with Twilight and its fans (phew!).
Also, to the previous poster who said that [name]Esme[/name] and [name]Carlisle[/name] aren’t really used - I know at least two of both (though both [name]Carlisle[/name] s are girls).
Also the name [name]Kellan[/name], which isn’t a character name, it’s the name of one of the actors (the guy who plays [name]Emmett[/name]).
This is [name]Kellan[/name]'s history in the Top 1000:
2007 - 883
2008 - not in top 1000
Then the first Twilight film is released in [name]November[/name] 2008 and this happens to [name]Kellan[/name]…
2009 - 626
2010 - 365
2011 - 363
It may have peaked already, as it only had a tiny rise between 2010 and 2011, I guess we’ll know more when the 2012 stats come out in [name]May[/name].
So yes, I’d include [name]Kellan[/name] as a “Twilight name” right now, as the actor does seem to have given the name a boost in the last few years.
I’ve also known at least one [name]Esme[/name], and it always reminds me of a J.D. [name]Salinger[/name] short story before Twilight. I don’t think it’s linked to the series at all.
[name]Renesmee[/name] is the only true Twilight name. The rest are names that happen to be used in Twilight.
[name]Cullen[/name] is also a Twilight inspired name. Its the last name of the vampire family. I’ve been hearing it as a first name a lot recently.
Honestly, I read the whole series and saw (most of) the movies, and still when I meet a little [name]Emmett[/name], [name]Edward[/name], or even [name]Jacob[/name] or [name]Bella[/name], I [name]DO[/name] NOT immediately think “Oh geez, they named their kid after Twilight”. So if I don’t and I was a fan of the books, I can’t imagine that normal people (who aren’t fans) would associate the names. The only ones for me that really scream Twilight are [name]Esme[/name] (because I had never heard it before reading the books), [name]Cullen[/name], and [name]Kellan[/name] (even though it was not in the book). If I met a kid with one of those names, I would think the parent came upon the name during Twilight-mania and loved it so much that they wanted to use it for their child, which really isn’t even that bad.
I think it’s also important to note that [name]Bella[/name] (and all her associates) and [name]Jacob[/name] had already been either very high on the charts for quite some time (in [name]Jacob[/name]'s case) or quickly traveling up the charts (in the case of the ___bella names). So it’s not like they were picked from obscurity. They were already very popular.
PS I didn’t mention [name]Renesmee[/name] because I would hope no one would ever name their child that. But that also would definitely make me think TWILIGHT (and poor taste in names).
The only ones of the main character I’d really consider completely usable are [name]Edward[/name], [name]Jacob[/name], [name]Alice[/name] because they’re so old that they’re above taint by association.
The others are uncommon enough that they might have some association. They might not be unusable, but there’s a chance you might be questioned at least for a couple years until the popularity wears off.
The smaller characters are mostly named with really basic names like garnet listed ([name]Seth[/name], [name]Charlie[/name], [name]Sam[/name], [name]Leah[/name], [name]Renee[/name], [name]Victoria[/name], [name]Jane[/name]).
The smaller characters that have rare names are unlikely to be used anyway–[name]Quill[/name], [name]Embry[/name], [name]Aro[/name], [name]Caius[/name], Zafrina
She doesn’t really have many in between names–uncommon but super usable (in the just around 1000 range)
some other twilight names that I remember from the last book: [name]Renata[/name], [name]Siobhan[/name], [name]Aro[/name].
[name]Alas[/name] people have named their daughters [name]Renesmee[/name].
Somewhere out there, there are little girls no older than 4 (the book was released in 2008) called [name]Renesmee[/name], the poor mites!
I’ve been wondering about this, too. I am absolutely in love with “[name]Rosalie[/name]” but my husband wants nothing to do with it because of the Twilight association. I keep telling him that in about ten years when our future daughter is in kindergarten, no one will make the association. Plus it’s an older name anyway.
The whole Twilight association with most of these names will die out very soon anyway.
The final film is out the way, there will be no more books, and the current hype is all about The Hunger Games.
Apart from its hardcore fans, to most people, the Twilight thing will be a past memory!
I agree with @MaggieMary. I don’t think any of those names are off-limits except the dreaded [name]Renesmee[/name]. They’re all lovely, classic names with other associations. [name]Rosalie[/name] was actually number 8 in popularity in [name]Quebec[/name] last year, and I doubt all those parents chose it from Twilight.
Also, those who know you well will likely know whether you named your children after Twilight or just chose a name that happens to be associated with the series, because they know your interests and personality. And if a stranger doesn’t know that, well it’s none of their business anyway.

Those are the main ones. There’s also other vampires in the last book, like [name]Tanya[/name], [name]Carmen[/name] and [name]Garrett[/name], and the Volturi - [name]Aro[/name], [name]Caius[/name], [name]Marcus[/name], [name]Jane[/name] and [name]Alec[/name] are the main ones
