Lately, I’ve found myself liking names for boys that sound softer. The type of names that evoke kindness, bear hugs, easy smiles. For me, it’s name like [name_u]Shay[/name_u]/Shea, [name_m]Bram[/name_m], Amos, and [name_u]Leland[/name_u]. What are some of your favorite “soft” boy names that are still masculine?
And yes, I know [name_u]Shea[/name_u]/Shay is more unisex than solidly masculine now, but the only [name_u]Shea[/name_u] I’ve ever known was a guy, so it sounds masculine to me.
I like all those names as well! Mine are [name_m]Soren[/name_m], [name_u]Tiernan[/name_u], [name_u]Brighton[/name_u], [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] and [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u].
@fearlessfirefly Oh, [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m]! Definitely fits this kind of name for me, too. I don’t know that I would have thought of [name_u]Brighton[/name_u] or [name_u]Tiernan[/name_u] in this category. I do think [name_u]Kieran[/name_u] fits, though, which is similar to [name_u]Tiernan[/name_u], so I can see it. =]
Oh, I forgot about [name_u]Rory[/name_u]. I love that one, as well. And [name_u]Levi[/name_u], [name_u]Liam[/name_u], [name_u]Luca[/name_u]…these are all great names!
Bodhi’s a great one. And [name_u]Shannon[/name_u]. I actually do like [name_u]Shannon[/name_u] for a boy still even though it kind of got taken over for girls. I wouldn’t have thought to put some of the others names you listed with this style, but I can see it. It’s interesting to me to see what other people think fit compared to what I do. Makes me think of some names a bit differently, which is cool. haha
[name_u]Laurie[/name_u], [name_m]Graham[/name_m], [name_u]Ellis[/name_u], [name_m]Roger[/name_m], [name_u]Gus[/name_u], [name_u]Winn[/name_u], [name_u]Miles[/name_u], [name_u]Owen[/name_u], and [name_u]Seth[/name_u] come to mind. [name_u]Rory[/name_u], too, but I see someone else already mentioned it.
Oh, yea, definitely [name_u]Owen[/name_u], [name_u]Miles[/name_u], and [name_m]Graham[/name_m]. [name_u]Love[/name_u] those names. I wouldn’t have thought of [name_u]Laurie[/name_u] as a boy name, but I like it. Reminds me of [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] [name_u]Laurie[/name_u].
For soft boy names, [name_u]Milo[/name_u] immediately comes to mind for me! Also [name_u]Greyson[/name_u] / [name_u]Grayson[/name_u], [name_m]Dalton[/name_m], [name_u]Noah[/name_u], [name_m]Caleb[/name_m], and [name_u]Ellis[/name_u]. Anything with long vowels I think automatically makes a name seem softer.
I love names like this! And I love [name_u]Shea[/name_u]/Shay for a boy. I actually prefer [name_u]Shea[/name_u], but my nephew is [name_m]Seamus[/name_m] nn [name_u]Shay[/name_u]. They’re both good. [name_u]Amos[/name_u] is also an awesome choice.
A few of my favorite soft but masculine boy names are:
[name_u]Ari[/name_u]
[name_u]Emery[/name_u] (it’s still SO masculine to me, I know it’s not for most people)
[name_u]Louie[/name_u]
[name_m]Henry[/name_m] (surprised this one hasn’t been picked up by girls yet tbh!)
[name_u]Harry[/name_u]
[name_u]Eli[/name_u]
I was also going to say [name_u]Ellis[/name_u], [name_u]Remy[/name_u], [name_u]Seth[/name_u] and [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] but they’ve been mentioned
I love [name_u]Milo[/name_u]. It’s so sweet. I wish we could use it for a future kiddo, but it doesn’t sound good with our last name. Definitely agree with [name_m]Caleb[/name_m], [name_u]Ellis[/name_u], and [name_u]Noah[/name_u], too. Hadn’t thought of [name_u]Greyson[/name_u]/Grayson, but I can see that one, too.
I always forget about [name_u]Asa[/name_u]. I think it’s a very interesting name. Definitely soft. And [name_m]Ewan[/name_m]. [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_m]Ewan[/name_m]. Those are all some great ones to add to the growing list! I love [name_u]Callum[/name_u], which I also should have added to the list, but I hadn’t thought of [name_m]Colm[/name_m].
@mololy I like so many of those. Never would have thought of [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], but I definitely sounds cuddly. I think because it makes me think of [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] the Chipmunk. haha
@amj I agree that L names do seem to fit this category well. There have been a number of them listed here and they’ve all fit very well.
@lavenderwitch I like that you had some really unique ones in your list! I really like [name_m]Faolan[/name_m], [name_m]Lucien[/name_m], [name_u]Robin[/name_u], [name_u]Asher[/name_u], [name_m]Emrys[/name_m]. So many good names.
@elleplume Aw, [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. I love [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. Definitely a soft, masculine boy name. I can see [name_u]Emery[/name_u] on a boy or a girl. It’s solidly unisex, so definitely deserves a spot on the growing list, I think. haha
