Solace?

I stumbled upon the name [name_u]Solace[/name_u] recently and wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts on it? To me it sounds incredibly similar to [name_m]Silas[/name_m] and could have the nickname [name_u]Sol[/name_u] (like Solomon) or even [name_u]Ace[/name_u]. So do you think its usable or just a guilty pleasure? What would your reaction be if you met someone named [name_u]Solace[/name_u]?

ignoring its meaning, it’s fine. but the meaning puts me off. i wouldn’t wanna be named Solace

maybe you’d like Solstice or Solaris as an alternative?

I really love the name [name_u]Solace[/name_u], and would be thrilled to meet someone by the name! The sound is so lovely, and I personally appreciate the meaning. It feels very gentle and peaceful. The nickname options are great as well. I do think it’s usable, but definitely quite a brave, out there choice. It does share sounds with more well known names like you mentioned, I had thought of [name_u]Wallace[/name_u] as well.

I would assume that the child was born after a time of grief for his parents, possibly after they had lost a child. I would expect the parents to be religious and for his siblings to also have virtue names. Not my style, but I think it’s usable, especially with the nickname options.

It’s not my favorite virtue name but it’s certainly not a bad one either. I think I like the idea if it for a boy as you’ve posed more for sure.
I think it’s usable.

I love the name and meaning. I think it’s a refreshing wordy name

Not a big fan. I don’t love the meaning of the sound.

I like [name_u]Solace[/name_u]- it has really sweet gentle vibes. I also like the idea of [name_u]Sol[/name_u] as a good, more cheerful nickname! For me it is definitely a brave choice, bordering on guilty pleasure. If I met a real life one I’d probably be surprised at first, but would then really like it!

If someone told me their child was [name_u]Solace[/name_u] I would think the parents were thoughtful and creative people and I would be eager to know their other children’s names.

I think it has a lovely soft sound and its meaning of comfort strikes me as gentle and sweet as opposed to depressing. I think [name_u]Solace[/name_u] is usable, but it does sound feminine to me, maybe due to its similarity to [name_f]Soleil[/name_f]? Though I do see how it is similar to [name_m]Silas[/name_m], [name_m]Solomon[/name_m], and [name_u]Ace[/name_u]. It reminds me of the [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Bond[/name_m] movie [name_m]Quantum[/name_m] of [name_u]Solace[/name_u].

I think [name_u]Solace[/name_u] is an amazing name! It sounds beautiful, and as you say has the great intuitive NN of [name_u]Sol[/name_u]. Usually I wouldn’t place too much emphasis on meaning, however with word names I give them extra consideration. For me, solace is a positive concept within a negative context - finding comfort and consolation :heavy_plus_sign: in times of grief and sadness :heavy_minus_sign:. I’m not saying that I would not end up using it, times of grief and sadness are realistic parts of all of our lives, but I’d want to seriously consider all of this if I was looking to name a person a word name. (The Merriam-Webster dictionary gives three meanings of solace as a transitive verb, one of which is simply ‘to make cheerful’)
