Solstice: Thoughts?

[name_m]Just[/name_m] tossing around ideas. WDYT of Solstice as a first name? Does it scream “hippie”? All opinions welcome!

I think it’s pretty cool; it’s not really my style, it’s a little out there, but it doesn’t scream hippie. There’s the cute nickname [name_m]Sol[/name_m]. I’m usually less of a fan of S-heavy names, but it’s not the worst. Though the name doesn’t really make much sense unless she’d be born on one of the solstices.
Might I suggest [name_f]Soleil[/name_f]? The same first syllable with a more elegant and significant sound and meaning.

It’s too out there for me…

The main thing I dislike is the hissy-ness of it. It’s not bad, just a bit like [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] and the like. Better than Equinox

I think it could work. It feels more pagan than hippie.

I like it, it’s unique and has quite a pretty meaning.
In this modern day context it has hippie connotations, as hippie refers to earth loving free-spirited people. This name honors a natural phenomenon and is unique enough to fit that context.
I still like it though, and if you so go for it.
If family members don’t like it, it’s long enough to lend itself to familiar nicknames.
Ticia or [name_u]Tisha[/name_u] being my favorite.

I don’t really like the sound. Maybe it’s hissy & I don’t usually like the “st” sound in names? I like the [name_m]Sol[/name_m] part. I want to like it, but it’s just not for me. And it does have a hippie/earth mama/spiritual/new age vibe, like if I met a kid with that name I would imagine the parents to be hippies or Wiccan maybe.

I think it would be fine in the middle but up front it’s too much.

Another vote for ‘middle only’. It is a bit hissy, but also I’m just not a fan of obscure word-names-as-first-names.

That would be a definite no for me… Maybe something a little less ‘out-there’, but still edgy… I’ll try to think of a something.

I vote middle only. It’s been on my middle only list for quite some time.

It’s just too fussy as a first [name_f]IMO[/name_f]…

As pretty and meaningful as it may be :).

I like it, it’s a great conversation starter name, and I doubt there will be too many people out there named [name_f]Solstice[/name_f]. You could call him “[name_m]Sol[/name_m]” for short. I’m a fan.

I like [name_f]Solstice[/name_f]. It has grown on me though. I do love just plain [name_m]Sol[/name_m] (which would make an adorable nickname), but I also feel that it is more masculine as a full name (just my opinion though). It could work. Does it have a special meaning to you?

Also love [name_f]Soleil[/name_f], which someone already suggested.

I wouldn’t think of hippie, maybe, religious inspired. But I like it, and she could go by sola or sosa. I have a friend named sony and she went by sosa among family.
