[name_f]Theodora[/name_f] / [name_f]Teodora[/name_f] / [name_f]Fedora[/name_f]
I like both the [name_f]English[/name_f] and the [name_m]German[/name_m] pronounciation (I think in [name_m]German[/name_m] it is teh-aw-DAW-ra). I also like [name_f]Teodora[/name_f], which can be considered an Italian, Spanish and Polish name (I am from Italy) and I also really like [name_f]Fedora[/name_f] (which is Russian, but had use in [name_f]Italy[/name_f] too and in my country it feels very… early 20th century vintage!) What is your favourite?
Inés
[name_f]Lilly[/name_f]
This should be the [name_m]German[/name_m] form of [name_f]Lily[/name_f]? It feels very fairy-tale ish and vintage and melodious to me, maybe because it reminds me of [name_f]Lili[/name_f] [name_f]Marlene[/name_f]. I also like [name_f]Marlene[/name_f] as a name a lot!
[name_f]Marlene[/name_f] / [name_f]Marlena[/name_f]
[name_f]Marlena[/name_f] is Italian though! I like it because [name_f]Marlena[/name_f] torna a casa is my favourite song from the Maneskin.
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_f]Belphoebe[/name_f]
I also like [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] (the [name_f]English[/name_f] name) and [name_f]Febe[/name_f] (FEH-beh, it is Italian) on its own
[name_f]Cressida[/name_f]
[name_f]Magda[/name_f] (lena)
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]
[name_f]Marguerite[/name_f]
[name_f]Hélène[/name_f]
[name_f]Clorinda[/name_f]
This is the warrior [name_f]Princess[/name_f] from “Gerusalemme Liberata” of Torquato [name_m]Tasso[/name_m], which I really like as a book.
Annelotte
The [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] variants are lovely aren’t they? I think my favourite is [name_f]Teodora[/name_f].
I didn’t know [name_f]Febe[/name_f], that’s fun to learn. I adore [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]. I’ve found various historical spellings I’ll put in a tab incase this interests you
Summary
variants used in [name_f]England[/name_f] in 1800’s:
[name_f]Phebe[/name_f] and Phœbe
I’m having a bit of a [name_f]Cressida[/name_f] moment myself. It sounds a little witchy to me because of an association with the witch in [name_f]Rapunzel[/name_f], but also fresh and spring like. In [name_f]British[/name_f] [name_f]English[/name_f] the stress is on the first syllable as in the Nameberry guide, but I’ve heard Cress-EE-da too. How do you say it?
I have a really good association with [name_f]Magda[/name_f] via a Polish [name_f]Magda[/name_f] who was a lovely person and made me adore the name.
[name_f]Clorinda[/name_f] is new to me, so she’s interesting to read about.
Annelotte is amazing!
[name_f]Love[/name_f] your list, so many gems
[name_f]My[/name_f] top favourite is Annelotte
she’s completely new to me but it was an instant love
[name_f]Marlene[/name_f] and [name_f]Marlena[/name_f] are my second favourite, I have always loved this name, I think it’s gorgeous
I also love [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], [name_f]Lilly[/name_f] (although I prefer the [name_f]Lily[/name_f] spelling), [name_f]Belphoebe[/name_f], [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f]
[name_f]Magda[/name_f] never really appealed to me but I have been crushing on [name_f]Madalena[/name_f] lately, I find her a bit softer
I’m loving this list!! Of the [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] variants, I think my favorite has to be [name_f]Teodora[/name_f] (though I really love [name_f]Theodosia[/name_f] and [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] too).
[name_f]Marlene[/name_f] is gorgeous and underrated and absolutely my favorite from your list, and Inés has really been growing on me recently as well! [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], [name_f]Magda[/name_f], [name_f]Hélène[/name_f], & [name_f]Lilly[/name_f] are also very pretty.
[name_f]Theodora[/name_f] and co:
I like [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] best - with the ‘fee-oh-dor-uh’ pronunciation, possibly because it is the most familiar to me, though I really like [name_f]Teodora[/name_f] ‘Tay-o-dor-uh’ too. It’s got strength and flair!
Inés: sparkly and bright
[name_f]Lilly[/name_f] - it’s pretty and simple
Marlene/a - I prefer [name_f]Marlena[/name_f] as it’s got a bit more spark but it might be worth bearing in mind that [name_f]Marlene[/name_f] is a dated name where I am so might sway my opinion.
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] - clunky-cute but stylish too
[name_f]Belphoebe[/name_f] - literary and sparkly
[name_f]Cressida[/name_f] - beautiful, golden and glowing
Magda/lena - I prefer [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] - it’s got an extra bit of sparkle
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] - bright, strong, and pretty
[name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] - I find it a tiny bit fussy but it does feel arty and intriguing
[name_f]Hélène[/name_f] - I like how this has a gentle sound but strength too
[name_f]Clorinda[/name_f] - distinctive, poetic and unexpected
Annelotte - I find something slightly off about the flow but that might just be me saying it wrong?
