Some pronunciation help

[name]How[/name] would you pronounce these names? And what’s your initial reaction to them?

[name]Aletta[/name] - [name]AH[/name]-let-uh? [name]AH[/name]-lee-ta? ah-[name]LEE[/name]-ta?
[name]Evia[/name] - EH-vee-uh? E-vee-uh? EV-ya?
[name]Leda[/name] - [name]LEE[/name]-duh? LED-uh?

Thanks!

[name]Aletta[/name] - my guess would be the first prn.
[name]Evia[/name] - my guess would be the second prn.
[name]Leda[/name] - my guess would be closest to the second, more like [name]Lay[/name]-da.

All best!

The website www.behindthename.com has pronunciation listed. If you click on the comments for each name sometimes people will write how they say the name themselves so you can see what is the most common way.

This is how I would first say the name if I say it written, but I could see the other options being used.

[name]Aletta[/name] - [name]AH[/name]-let-uh my first guess, ah-[name]LEE[/name]-ta my second
[name]Evia[/name] - EH-vee-uh my first guess, E-vee-uh my second, but I would say [name]Evie[/name] as Ee-Vee and [name]Evvie[/name] as Ev-ee
[name]Leda[/name] - LED-uh my first guess, [name]LEE[/name]-da my second

For the website I mentioned, [name]Leda[/name] is the only name with the spelling as above that was listed and they have [name]LEE[/name]-də for the correct way.

[name]Aletta[/name] - ah-let-uh
[name]Evia[/name] - Ev-ee-uh
[name]Leda[/name] - [name]Lee[/name]-da

[name]Aletta[/name] - ah-LET-uh
[name]Evia[/name] - EH-vee-ah
[name]Leda[/name] - [name]LEE[/name]-duh

That’s how I’d say them at least!

[name]Aletta[/name] - uh-LETT-uh
[name]Evia[/name] - ee-VEE-uh
[name]Leda[/name] - [name]LEE[/name]-duh

[name]Aletta[/name] - ah LET ah. I love it. I think it’s so light and airy and soft and sweet. I came across it on these boards a couple of weeks ago and I’m completely in love! I think it’s adorable. I also love [name]Alouette[/name] and [name]Arietta[/name], which are similar, in a way.

[name]Evia[/name] - EV ee ah. I like it, but prefer other Ev- names, particularly [name]Eve[/name], [name]Evangeline[/name], [name]Eva[/name], [name]Evelina[/name], [name]Evelyn[/name], [name]Eveline[/name], etc.

[name]Leda[/name] - [name]LAY[/name] dah. Not sure if it’s right or not, just my initial thought. It’s not my thing but I can see why it would appeal.

[name]Aletta[/name]: The double t makes me read this as ah-LET-ah. I don’t really like this name, sounds like you’re saying “a letter.”

[name]Evia[/name]: [name]Eve[/name]-ee-ah? That’s what springs to mind but when I look at it it does seem as though EV-ee-ah could be right? I don’t know. [name]Don[/name]'t really like it either way, it seems like a smoosh between [name]Eve[/name]/[name]Eva[/name] and other -ia suffixed names like [name]Amelia[/name], [name]Sophia[/name] and [name]Cecelia[/name].

[name]Leda[/name]: [name]Lee[/name]-dah. She’s a character from Greek myth, she has her own story but is probably most well-known as the mother of [name]Helen[/name] of [name]Troy[/name], and [name]Castor[/name] and Polydeuces. [name]Love[/name] this name. It’s simple, sweet and elegant, and I think it works for a young girl and a grown woman. It’s definitely my favourite of your choices. If you want more information on the myths of [name]Leda[/name], may I suggest you look elsewhere than Wikipedia? I just had a look to see if it had a link to a beautiful picture of [name]Leda[/name] on an Italian wedding vase from the 4th century BC, and that article is a hot mess. Here it is, though: http://www.theoi.com/Gallery/K1.11.html (The swan is [name]Zeus[/name], he appeared to her as a swan and conceived two or three of her four children - the paternity of one of the Dioscuri is still debated)
