I swore up and down I would never fall seriously for a name with pronunciation issues. And here I go crushing on [name_f]Havilah[/name_f] and wanting to make it a top five FN. It is pronounced HAH-vah-lah. It’s pronounced same as the name for the daughter in Fiddler on the Roof, “…little bird/little [name_f]Havilah[/name_f]/everybody’s favorite child…” (except I believe that name was Chavala, Hebrew spelling). It’s so pretty darn it!
WDYT of [name_f]Havilah[/name_f]? For a person like me, who has zero tolerance for pronunciation issues, do you think this name would work?
I admit, [name_f]Havilah[/name_f] had an appeal! I actually know a girl (American but raised in Prague) name Havalind, which is very similar. [name_f]Havilah[/name_f] could work well. The only other way people would prob pronounce it is Have-Ill-Uh but that’s a quick correction.
I do like the sound of the name, though I would never guess that it’s correct pronunciation from looking at the way it’s spelt.
As for the name, I say go for it. If you love the name, use it. It’s not a hard name to pronounce, and once people hear it, they will say it correctly.
