Someone please tell me I'm delusional šŸ˜

As you all know, I really love (and will probably eventually consider) some really out-there names. However, I fear I have truly crossed a line this time

[name_f][/name_f]

I fear I have fallen in love with a beautiful name: Ptolomea[name_f][/name_f] (tawl-uh-MAY-uh). I love [name_m]Ptolemy[/name_m], and Ptolomea just feels so stately and gorgeous!!

[name_f][/name_f]

However, (and most unfortunately)ā€¦ Ptolomea is also the name of a circle of hell in Danteā€™s inferno[name_f][/name_f] :sob:
[name_f][/name_f]Realistically, I know it can not be done. However, I just canā€™t seem to let go of her!!

[name_f][/name_f]

Please offer any and all suggestions you can think of that are similar to her but with a more positive relation!! Iā€™m not a huge fan of Ptolomais or [name_f]Poppaea[/name_f], but anything else you can think of Iā€™d love to hear.
[name_f][/name_f]Thank you all!!

Ptolomea is gorgeous!!!

[name_f][/name_f]

what about [name_f]Bartolomea[/name_f] as an alternative?

Sheā€™s so pretty [name_f][/name_f]! Honestly, sheā€™s pretty enough Iā€™d still consider it lol, I know thatā€™s probably bad.

[name_f][/name_f]

I canā€™t think of particularly any that sound similar, but maybe some cool P names?:

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Phryne[/name_f] (it does mean Toad though, which I think is cute but could be bothersome)
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Psamathe[/name_f] (satellite of Neptune)
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Parthenia[/name_f] & [name_f]Parthenope[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Philophrosyne[/name_f] (female personification of friendship & goodness, so basically the opposite of a circle of hell lol)
[name_f][/name_f]Polymnia (ā€œabounding in songā€)
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Pomona[/name_f] (ā€œfruit treeā€)

Then I may be even more delusional, because my first thought was ā€œoh, thatā€™s actuallyā€¦ :sparkles:kind of cool. :sparkles:ā€[name_f][/name_f] :sob:

Maybeā€¦

Ptolomea [name_f][/name_f]- oh, she sounds so dreamy! Much more ethereal cloud than fiery underworld

[name_f][/name_f]

Iā€™m not helping you let go perhaps, because I really want to suggest a spelling change to Talomea or some such? (Tolomea is listed as a submitted name on BtN [name_f][/name_f]- Italian fem form of Tolomeo.)

[name_f][/name_f]

Some similar sounding name ideas:
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Salomea[/name_f] (Solomiya is a Ukrainian variant of [name_f]Salome[/name_f], but I canā€™t find a PN guide for her.)
[name_f][/name_f]Tahmina
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Alodia[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Paloma[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f]Shall we invent Palomea?
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Haumea[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f]TĆmea
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Euphemia[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Lamorna[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f]Thalma
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Tulia[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f]Theolene, ThƩoline
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Teodora[/name_f]

[name_f][/name_f]

Iā€™ll also have a hunt through my hearted name list here on NB and see if thereā€™s anything Ptolomea-like I can share.

Honestly, I think itā€™s fine. The majority of people you encounter wonā€™t have read Danteā€™s inferno! [name_m]Even[/name_m] then, I think itā€™s beautiful, and you could probably find a nice meaning for it somewhere!!

[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Timothea[/name_f]

In fact, you may have just sold me on the name. Itā€™s so gorgeous. Aside from Danteā€™s infernoā€“Ptolemy was a common name for Egyptian rulers during the Ptolemaic dynasty, and stems from the greek word meaning ā€œwar-like.ā€ War-like is not always a bad thing, especially on a girl; it could insinuate that she is strong, persistent, and stands up for what she believes.

[name_f][/name_f]

Additionally, the name existed before the book. Itā€™s truly an ancient name.

[name_f][/name_f]

Some other ideas, though, because I do understand the hesitation:
[name_f][/name_f]-Penthesilea (a favorite of mine!!)
[name_f][/name_f]-Nepenthe
[name_f][/name_f]-Heroica
[name_f][/name_f]-Ephemera
[name_f][/name_f]-Panacea

I know Im probably crazy but Iā€™d actually consider it useable. I mean itā€™s name like enough to make it, and itā€™s cool. A circle in hell is not the greatest association, but if [name_f]Lilith[/name_f] is useable I donā€™t see why Ptolomaea wouldnā€™t be. I personally associate it with the [name_f]Ethel[/name_f] [name_m]Cain[/name_m] song, so I feel itā€™s nice. Ptolemaeus is a name Id give a future son.
