Somer vs Summer

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all!

I’m not 100% sold on the name, but my husband absolutely loves it.
Question is, if we do decide on this name, which spelling should we go with?

[name_f]Somer[/name_f] vs [name_f]Summer[/name_f]?
Or any other alternatives?

We haven’t decided on middle names yet and the surname is [name_u]Griffin[/name_u].

Thanks guys!!

Summer is gorgeous, lively, warm and colorful! I would use this spelling.

Summer for sure. [name_f]Somer[/name_f] seems like a last name (think [name_f]Suzanne[/name_f] Somers) or a typo of [name_m]Homer[/name_m].

Summer for sure

I love [name_f]Summer[/name_f]! It’s a great name! Also, I could see [name_f]Somer[/name_f] getting mispronounced like SOE-mer.

Summer is one of my faves! I prefer this spelling.

This is what I was thinking. [name_f]Summer[/name_f] seems must more straightforward!

I could go with either. [name_f]Somer[/name_f] reminds me of Somerville, MA so I don’t stumble over it as some may do.

I mean, I know it’s not your choice, but I LOVE [name_u]Griffin[/name_u]!

And I highly prefer [name_f]Summer[/name_f]: Avoid misspellings & incorrect pronunciations. I would have guessed SO-mur when reading [name_f]Somer[/name_f].

Summer is not my favorite time name (I prefer [name_f]Spring[/name_f], [name_u]June[/name_u], [name_u]October[/name_u], [name_f]Sunday[/name_f], [name_f]Morning[/name_f], etc.), but I like it fine.

Somer I don’t get. If it were a family name, for a middle, maybe, but I think a girl would not be pleased with this name.

Summer [name_u]Laurel[/name_u] [name_u]Griffin[/name_u]?

I like [name_f]Somer[/name_f] over [name_f]Summer[/name_f], but I think I like [name_f]Sommer[/name_f] more.

I would use [name_f]Summer[/name_f]. [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] name!

I much prefer [name_f]Summer[/name_f].

Summer, unless [name_f]Somer[/name_f] is a meaningful spelling to you (a family surname, perhaps?) [name_f]Summer[/name_f] is by far the most common spelling of the name, and would be the simplest to wear.

It’s a beautiful choice! :sunny:

Just hearing the name I always think [name_f]Summer[/name_f].

Seeing them on paper one makes me think of the season- hot days, sun dresses, ice-cream, daisies, while the other reads as a surname- modern, gender neutral, tailored, bold. But these differences only come across for me on paper.
,
If that modern surname feel is something that interests you, then names similar to [name_f]Summer[/name_f]/Somer like [name_m]Sumner[/name_m], Sumpter, or [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] might appeal to you. [name_f]Summers[/name_f] is an option too.

If the seasonal and sunny vibe is what you like about the name then I wouldn’t change up the spelling and would stick with [name_f]Summer[/name_f].

I like [name_f]Summer[/name_f] the best. It reminds me of the season, obviously, and of sunshine and walks on the beach. I don’t think [name_f]Somer[/name_f] is bad, but it looks much more like a surname. It also seems a bit more masculine. I’d reserve [name_f]Somer[/name_f] for a middle name spot. If you want it to be a first name, I’d go with [name_f]Summer[/name_f].

I prefer [name_f]Summer[/name_f]! I think this spelling is warmer and more elegant. [name_f]Somer[/name_f] reminds me of [name_m]Homer[/name_m] [name_m]Simpson[/name_m] from The Simpsons! :yellow_heart:

Summer for sure.

Definitely [name_f]Summer[/name_f]! I’m afraid [name_f]Somer[/name_f] might be misspelled.

I kind of lover [name_f]Somer[/name_f], but I see where it could be tricky, so I would stick with [name_f]Summer[/name_f] (which I also really like). I don’t know if it’s worth considering, but there is also [name_f]Sommer[/name_f].
In terms of middles, what’s your general style? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you want something classic, or vintage, or spunky, or whimsical etc.?
