Something about Silver

So I’m due in November and having a boy. However me and my partner have discussed having a girls name option ready just incase :joy:

We have a few girls names we like but Silver keeps cropping back up. What do people think?

I randomly stumbled across an IG account for a little girl Silver and it made the name feel like a real option.

I think [name_u]Silver[/name_u] is an intriguing colour name that has a cool wintry feel. I do prefer Sylvia/Sylvie and for boys [name_m]Sylvan[/name_m] but I can see the appeal. I think [name_u]Silver[/name_u] would make an interesting middle name for both boys & girls.

I know a [name_u]Silver[/name_u] who wears it surprisingly well. It’s not necessarily a name I would like for myself, but I do think it works.

Hmm, I prefer Silver as a nickname, maybe because I know quite a few cats with the name? It definitely works, it just doesn’t feel super substantial to me. I’d love something like Sylvie or Sylvia or even Celia with the nickname Silver!

[name_u]Silver[/name_u] is sleek and interesting - I like it! Close enough to [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] that it doesn’t feel outlandish, but also unique and distinct!

I have a good friend named Silver; she wears it SO well and I think it’s really cool! Definitely usable

I met a [name_u]Silver[/name_u] once! While it’s not my personal style I think it’s a really cool name that a special individual could pull off.

I like it! It hits all the same notes as some more popular names, such as…

• Ends in ‘er’ - [name_u]Harper[/name_u], [name_u]River[/name_u], [name_u]Piper[/name_u], [name_u]Juniper[/name_u]

• Color name - [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_u]Sage[/name_u], [name_u]Hazel[/name_u], [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f], [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]

• Names with ‘V’ in them - [name_f]Ava[/name_f], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]

• ‘S’ names - [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], [name_f]Stella[/name_f], [name_u]Skylar[/name_u], [name_f]Sadie[/name_f]

Overall, I would love to meet a little [name_u]Silver[/name_u] and think its a really fresh, cool name!

I loosely know a little [name_u]Silver[/name_u] — I wonder if it’s the same one! She does have quite influencer-y parents.

I actually really like it. It’s sleek but sparky, and reminds me of the lovely [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] but fresher and feistier with that -er ending.

Thanks so much everyone for your opinions  I do like the name [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] as well, so could always be a nn if they’re looking for something more traditional when older.

intriguing! It’s close enough to Sylvia/Sylvie that I could get behind it :))

This is such an interesting option! It had never occurred to me as a name, but I like it. I do think it works and you’ll always have [name_f]Silvie[/name_f] as a NN, which is adorable.

I love the idea of [name_u]Silver[/name_u] as a name! It completely has the lively letter combinations of [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] and [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] but skips the fussiness of the two (I know [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] is currently trendy though, I just knew a particularly entitled woman with the name!). I actually much prefer [name_u]Silver[/name_u] as a full name, I think it goes perfectly fine with names like [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] and [name_u]Jasper[/name_u].

I love [name_u]Silver[/name_u]! It’s so much fun and I think a little girl would adore it. It doesn’t seem too out there with the rise of other jem-type names, such as Ruby/Emerald/Jade.

Definitely interesting. I think it could make a quirky choice, I like it.

I think it’s just fine, I’d personally prefer to have a more versatile full name, so I’d be a bigger fan of a Sylv- name with nickname [name_u]Silver[/name_u].

[name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I just were at a family friendly event and met a girl named [name_u]Silver[/name_u] in passing and we both took note of the unique and beautiful name! I love it. Vastly prefer it to Sylvie/Sylvia. [name_u]Sterling[/name_u] is another name I adore that has [name_u]Silver[/name_u] vibes.

I’ll be the naysayer here: it seems like the parents were trying too hard. Actually, it’s the perfect type of name for people who would use their child as an influencer on social media. [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] or [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] on the other hand (with a totally different meaning than previous metal) are gorgeous names.

I didn’t think of it in that way. I’m a fairly private person so i definitely wouldn’t want people to perceive my child’s name in that way  I do like [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] as well
