I love the name [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], it’s been a favourite of mine for a very long time. I love its meaning, origin, and it’s ties to myth and legend. But still, it’s not quite right. My brother’s future inlaws are [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], and because my daughter is a [name_f]Jane[/name_f], naming a son [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] feels a little weird to me.
What are some names that are stylistically similar to [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]? (I’m not really looking for sound-alikes, such as [name_m]Archer[/name_m] or [name_m]Asher[/name_m], which aren’t my cup of tea.)
Note: I’m not pregnant at the moment, just thinking ahead.
What about other Arthurian legend names… [name_m]Percival[/name_m]/[name_u]Percy[/name_u], [name_m]Garrett[/name_m], [name_m]Gawain[/name_m], [name_u]Tristan[/name_u], [name_m]Lance/name_m, [name_m]Albion[/name_m], [name_m]Merlin[/name_m] (I actually know one of these [name_m]IRL[/name_m])
Or other literary names… [name_m]William[/name_m] ([name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m]), [name_m]Geoffrey[/name_m] ([name_m]Chaucer[/name_m]), [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] (Never ending story, [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m])… I’m sure there are lists of literary names already made.
I love [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], [name_m]Walter[/name_m], [name_m]Simon[/name_m], [name_m]Alastair[/name_m], and [name_m]Garrett[/name_m] (though I prefer [name_m]Gareth[/name_m]).
I also really like [name_m]Peter[/name_m], though it would be dreadful with the lastname. And, my husband ADORES [name_m]Harvey[/name_m], but it’s a fast-food chain here in [name_f]Canada[/name_f], so sadly, it’s a no-go.
I love the suggestions [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] and [name_m]Crispin[/name_m]! Not sure I have anything to add, but I wanted to say it’s too bad about the [name_f]Jane[/name_f]/[name_m]Arthur[/name_m] connection, especially since they’re both wonderful names. I’d feel weird about it as well. But I think you could definitely still use [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] in the middle!
@elifsu - love [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], [name_m]Simon[/name_m], and [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]. [name_m]Henry[/name_m] is wonderful as well, though I’ve already used it, for my cat!
@oftenoverseas - [name_m]Graeme[/name_m], [name_m]Duncan[/name_m], [name_m]Cedric[/name_m], and [name_m]Edwin[/name_m] in particular are all wonderful. You really nailed my style, well done!
@l_e_d2009 - [name_m]Walter[/name_m] is fantastic. [name_m]Benedict[/name_m] and [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] are lovely as well, though I don’t know if I could get my husband on board (though he is a [name_m]Benedict[/name_m] Cumberbatch fan -who isn’t?! - so maybe…). I also [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_m]Edgar[/name_m], but I had a cat with this name, so it’s out for a little human.
18_25 - that is my husband’s opinion as well. He also thinks it’s incredibly weird of me to worry about naming a baby that does not yet exist. Additionally, my husband loves [name_m]Alaric[/name_m].
I notice [name_m]Alastair[/name_m], in all its various spellings, coming up a lot in this thread. I’ll have to give it.some more thought, a it’s not one I’d given much consideration to in the past.
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_m]Harvey[/name_m]! I’m Canadian and know a little [name_m]Harvey[/name_m] (5 years old) and I’ve never once associated it with the restaurant
