Thoughts on this name? Which spelling do you prefer and why? What kind of person is Sonia or Sonja? Aesthetic? And how would you pronounce it?
I do find the name to feel quite dated (70’s specific, due to its peak and fall throughout this decade) and thus I cannot seem to imagine someone younger than 40 with the name. That said, I do think it could work well on a younger person though, as it’s not intrinsically heavy or clunky or anything, just not so common these days to have a more youthful association. Perhaps it is even getting to a point of feeling quite fresh on a young one.
Though I usually like and prefer a J in -ia/-ya/-ja type names, I think in this case I actually prefer [name_f]Sonia[/name_f]. It’s just cleaner and smoother. Also, I pronounce both as SONN-yuh.
IMO I love it, I think I prefer the J over the I, but both spellings are valid so is [name_f]Sonya[/name_f].
as for pronunciation, I’d personally pronounce [name_f]Sonja[/name_f] with a short o, whereas I’d pronounce [name_f]Sonia[/name_f] with a long o. as for [name_f]Sonya[/name_f], I would go either way. once again that is my personal opinion, the name has been pronounced both ways among people I’ve known
I have good associations with the name and I think it works on girls of all ages and I kinda wish more people started considering it
Good [name_m]Luck[/name_m] on naming
Sonia/Sonja is okay - I find it a bit harsh personally, but nothing wrong with it. I slightly prefer the look of [name_f]Sonja[/name_f] - a little gentler but visually more pleasing to me I pronounce it Sonn-yuh (son rhyming with Sonn rhyming with swan or con)
I love [name_f]Sonia[/name_f] !!! So pretty and sparkley. I had [name_f]Sonia[/name_f] [name_f]Noelle[/name_f] on my list for agessss.
I prefer the [name_f]Sonia[/name_f] spelling, I think it looks prettier, but [name_f]Sonja[/name_f] or [name_f]Sonya[/name_f] are also nice. I pronounce it SONN-yah
