Which spelling of [name]Sonia[/name]/[name]Sonya[/name]/[name]Sonja[/name] do you prefer? Why?
We are Scandinavian, Czech and a few others from Europe if that makes a difference

I prefer [name]Sonja[/name]. [name]Sonja[/name] seems more classic to me. [name]Sonia[/name] would be second. [name]Sonya[/name] just makes me think of the company Sony. [name]Silly[/name], I know.
[name]Sonya[/name], or [name]Sonia[/name]. [name]Love[/name] this name! Totally underused.
Most of the women I know with this name spell it [name]Sonja[/name], so that one seems the most familiar to me. I think the J also emphasizes both the pronunciation and the cultural background, while the I or Y seem to be trying more to “fit in”, IYKWIM.
[name]Sonia[/name] looks best to me - classic and exotic. [name]Sonja[/name] is a Scandinavian spelling so it’s my second choice. I have an aversion to y’s so [name]Sonya[/name] is my least favourite spelling.
Woohoo, us too! Scandi/Czech/Russian/Polish/English. I think [name]Sonja[/name] is the prettiest, but I might be biased because of Norway’s lovely [name]Queen[/name] [name]Sonja[/name]. [name]Sonia[/name] is very cute as well, but I only associate it with my [name]Sonia[/name] Rykiel knitties.
We almost used [name]Sonja[/name] for my daughter! And honestly, we were still going back and forth regarding the spelling after she was born. We ultimately went with a different name, but may have flipped a coin to decide between [name]Sonja[/name] and [name]Sonia[/name]. I don’t care for [name]Sonya[/name] at all. I was drawn to [name]Sonja[/name] because it honored our Scandinavian heritage, but I liked the beauty of [name]Sonia[/name]…it looked less clunky to me relative to [name]Sonja[/name] (not that [name]Sonja[/name] is clunky, but next to [name]Sonia[/name] they felt a little different). I love the name [name]Sonia[/name]/[name]Sonja[/name]; I think it is a timeless beauty that is uncommon without being weird. I am surprised it isnt more popular, actually. It is sweet, ages well, feels timeless, and has a touch of an exotic feel to it. I think it would be a great match with [name]Lucia[/name]!
The little girl in your avatar pic looks just how I would picture a [name]Sonja[/name]/[name]Sonia[/name] to be
[name]Sonja[/name], no doubt.
That is [name]Lucia[/name]! She has her daddy’s coloring but looks a lot like me in the face. As a redhead I always hope to see some strawberry coming through but this next one is destined to be strawberry or blonde too! I think [name]Sonja[/name] is my favorite of the spellings and I am really liking this as a good girls name option!!
I love the look of [name]Sonja[/name], but [name]Sonia[/name] is probably the most universal.
I know a girl named [name]Sonia[/name] so that’s the most familiar spelling to me.
This exactly. [name]Sonya[/name] and [name]Sonia[/name] appear to me as various cultures changing the spelling to fit in with their mainstream names.
[name]Sonja[/name] is the most authentic. As long as she won’t mind explaining the pronunciation.
I think [name]Sonja[/name] is the prettiest by far.
[name]Sonja[/name] seems most authentic. I would pronounce it [name]Son[/name]-ja.
[name]Sonia[/name] reminds me of sonic. I would pronounce it [name]Son[/name]-ee-a.
[name]Sonya[/name] looks trendiest. I would pronounce it [name]Son[/name]-ee-ja.
I love [name]Sonja[/name]! There’s something about those random Polish "J"s that I just adore! I think [name]Lucia[/name] and [name]Sonja[/name] are adorable together, and I love that [name]Sonja[/name] is a bit more of a classic take on [name]Sophia[/name]/[name]Sofia[/name]. [name]Sonya[/name] looks a bit trendy, with the “Y”, and [name]Sonia[/name] looks a bit forced/made-up to me (also like it should be soh-NEE-ah, not SONE-yah/SAHN-yah). [name]Sonja[/name] is by far my favorite, followed by [name]Sonya[/name].
I love the [name]Sonia[/name] spelling, but [name]Sonja[/name] is pretty too. I recently found out the “soniya” is a term of endearment in Hindi, which makes me like the name more.
I think either spelling is fine. No matter how you spell it [name]Sonia[/name]/[name]Sonya[/name]/[name]Sonja[/name] is a lovely name.
I love the look of [name]Sonja[/name], not so much the others.
[name]Sonja[/name] is by far the prettier spelling. [name]Lovely[/name] name choice!
