Sookie as a baby girl name?

I heard this name on a show called true blood. I absolutely fell in love with it. So it would be pronounced like ‘cookie’ but with an ‘s’ . My mom and mother in law love it but my husband not so much. Thankfully we r having twins so we each agreed to choose a name. I asked on yahoo and I am getting surprisingly negative feedback. Ik it’s a slightly odd name but is it really that weird to people?

It’s a little too unusual for my liking. I would probably ask a girl named [name_f]Sookie[/name_f] to repeat her name several times. But if you really love the name, ignore all negative commentary and go for it!
I would, however, consider the Japanese name [name_f]Suki[/name_f] (pronounced SOO-kee) because people would probably understand that better.

So, ‘‘suck-ee’’? That isn’t my natural interpretation but I see where you’re coming from (I thought it would be said like [name_f]Suki[/name_f]). Personally I think the sound and appearance is massively unappealing, rather than just weird.

It’s not horrible, but I prefer [name_f]Suki[/name_f].

I also prefer [name_f]Suki[/name_f], but [name_f]Sookie[/name_f] is nice too!

[name_f]Suki[/name_f] is a lot better, although the pronunciation is a tiny bit different.

Sorry, but I think [name_f]Suki[/name_f]/[name_f]Sookie[/name_f] (I pronounce them nearly the same) is a bad choice. It sounds too much like “suck” and is also a swear word in another language (Russian). What about calling her [name_f]Susan[/name_f]/[name_f]Susanna[/name_f] and using [name_f]Sookie[/name_f] as a nickname?

I like [name_f]Sookie[/name_f], though I do prefer the [name_f]Suki[/name_f] spelling (as in [name_f]Suki[/name_f] Waterhouse). It’s a very sweet name.

I have to agree with fellow posters. [name_f]Suki[/name_f] is a much better choice.

I watched TrueBlood too. Funny, even though it is a show about vampires I never even thought about the “sucky” connection because that’s not how it’s pronounced. It’s not a favorite of mine, but I think it is do-able. It’s apparently used quite a bit in the south, so with that and with the [name_f]Sookie[/name_f] Stackhouse books/TrueBlood show, it’s not completely off the wall.

It wouldn’t be bad as a nickname but I find it hard to wear as a given name on an adult.

All I can think.of is “[name_u]True[/name_u] Blood”

It sounds a bit like a pet name to me, but I agree with previous posters that [name_f]Suki[/name_f] is a good alternative.

I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Sookie[/name_f]! I think its a stunning, refresing name.

NMS at all, sorry!

It’s a US Southern name, so I wouldn’t unless I was from the deep South. Then I wouldn’t anyway, because it’s a bit cutesy for a future adult to pull off (and be taken seriously).

[name_f]Suki[/name_f] is oceans better imo, a very nice.

[name_f]Sookie[/name_f] looks/sounds way too much like a pet name to me, not an actual name. Like naming your kid Sport or [name_m]Champ[/name_m].

I think of [name_u]True[/name_u] Blood, and also pigs (it just sounds like the name of a pig to me for some reason, sorry). I wouldn’t use it. Much prefer the suggestion of [name_f]Susan[/name_f]/[name_f]Susanna[/name_f] NN [name_f]Sookie[/name_f], that way she has NN options and a full name to fall back on.

my first thought was Snookie without the n. it’s not my taste but i’ve heard worse so if its something you love, go for it! [name_f]Suki[/name_f] is pretty to but i would find it a little odd if you’re not Japanese but maybe that’s just me

[name_f]Sookie[/name_f] was also [name_f]Melissa[/name_f] [name_u]Mccarthy[/name_u]'s character on the [name_m]Gilmore[/name_m] Girls tv show. She played the accident prone chef. I’m with the other posters tho I prefer the spelling of [name_f]Suki[/name_f] over [name_f]Sookie[/name_f]. It’s not a name I would choose for my own child I don’t like that it rhymes with cookie and the nn Sook sounds too much like soot.

I really like the “Soo-key” pronunciation!
