Sophisticated or Outdated??

What are y’alls thoughts, Berries…

[name_m]Horatio[/name_m]

Sophisticated? Outdated? Useable?

What kind of middles do you think it could be paired with? And, what are your favourite nickname options??

[name_m]Keen[/name_m] on everyone’s thoughts!
And discuss…

Xx

I’ve liked [name_m]Horatio[/name_m] ever since I first saw [name_m]Hamlet[/name_m] in school. Is it wearable though? I’m not exactly confident, but I think it could be done. Especially with a familiar nickname. I imagine it would be recognisable to a lot of people. It’s a literary name so I think it carries class and old-world charm. It definitely wouldn’t be everyone’s cup of tea though.

As for nicknames, I’m thinking of [name_m]Ace[/name_m], Haas, [name_m]Harry[/name_m], [name_m]Hayes[/name_m], [name_u]Hero[/name_u], [name_u]Rio[/name_u], [name_m]Rich[/name_m], [name_m]Ross[/name_m], [name_u]Rory[/name_u] and [name_u]Shea[/name_u]. I think my favourite out of these is Haas for an adult and [name_u]Rory[/name_u] for a child.

I can’t shake the corny lead character from CSI: [name_f]Miami[/name_f]. I hope that doesn’t show my age.

LOL  I grew up watching CSI (in its varied forms), so it’s nostalgic for me - if a little cheesy haha. That’s not why I like the name, but it’s also not a bad connotation to me.

I’m okay with not being everyone’s cup of tea… I much prefer unique to common names.

They are some great nickname ideas. Thanks!

I love [name_m]Horatio[/name_m]!! It’s edging towards being on my top 15 list i think!
It feels literary and cool to me, serious but friendly and sweet

I love the pp’s suggestions of [name_m]Hayes[/name_m], [name_u]Rory[/name_u], [name_m]Ross[/name_m] and [name_u]Hero[/name_u] as nn!
[name_u]Ray[/name_u], [name_m]Teo[/name_m], [name_m]Arrow[/name_m]/[name_m]Aro[/name_m] maybe?

In trying to determine wearability, I always suggest considering how you would feel if the name in question was your own name. [name_m]How[/name_m] would you feel about carrying it? Would you be comfortable introducing yourself, saying your name aloud at Starbucks, or hearing it when someone called out to you? Sometimes that can help give perspective to those names outside the “cup of tea” ranges!

I would loooove it if I had a unique name like Horatio, so I’m all in on this logic lol. My name is already a bit uncommon (ranked in the 500s last year, and I’ve only met two others my whole life), and I have the most uncommon spelling. It’s such a great feeling to get “oh that’s a pretty name… you don’t hear that often” comments. I’m very thankful to not just be “another Sarah”, as it were.

I think [name_u]Rory[/name_u] would be my top choice at the moment. [name_m]Teo[/name_m] is a nice option too.

I think it can be worn and rocked.

This is my son’s first name, so I am particularly biased. He is almost 2. Everyone seems to love it. We thought he would likely go by [name_u]Rory[/name_u], but we parents only call him [name_m]Horatio[/name_m]. Others call him Tio and love that option. I’m sure if you dig in the forum you’ll find the list of a dozen or so nicknames I came up with when contemplating the name pick.

I absolutely adore [name_m]Horatio[/name_m] (he’s one of my all time favourite names), and I actually see him as young, fun, energetic, and adventurous. I love middles with a similar feel, along the lines of [name_m]Horatio[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], [name_m]Horatio[/name_m] [name_m]Louis[/name_m] (Loo-ee), [name_m]Horatio[/name_m] [name_u]Kit[/name_u], [name_m]Horatio[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m]. And it might be a bit of a stretch for some, but my favourite nn for [name_m]Horatio[/name_m] is [name_u]Rory[/name_u].

I looove your signature combination of [name_m]Horatio[/name_m] [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]… how fabulous!

I do quite like [name_u]Kit[/name_u], actually. It’s very short compared to my normal taste in names, but I find it so appealing somehow.

I don’t think it’s wearable as a first (butt of future math jokes; Whoreratio) but it would be a cool middle.
