What do you think of [name]Sophronia[/name]? Is it too weighty, as [name]Pam[/name] and [name]Linda[/name] say, or is it wearable? What nicknames would make it less heavy for a child? Thanks!
It’s not too weighty to me. The only nn I can think of is [name]Sosie[/name], [name]Sophie[/name] or [name]Ronia[/name].
I think it is too weighty personally.
I think its weightiness is what makes it wonderful. I wouldn’t use it myself because I do find it to be like heavy earrings, but I would love to meet a [name]Sophronia[/name]. It’s ornate and eccentric, with a juxtaposed meaning (“sensible.”)
Nickname [name]Sonia[/name] or [name]Sophie[/name]?
Nicknames that are more of a stretch: a shorter virtue name with compatible meaning - [name]Prudence[/name]/[name]Pru[/name] (the Beatles lent this some spunk), [name]Sage[/name], or [name]Wit[/name] (made-up, sorry! but not far from [name]Whit[/name].)
Weighty or not, it just doesn’t have a pleasant sound to me.
I don’t think it’s too heavy, and I actually love the weightiness in comparison to the fairly flimsy, trendy names that are so often heard at the moment. The nicknames [name]Sophie[/name] and [name]Sosie[/name] are adorable and certainly make it more wearable for a child. [name]Sophronia[/name] actually reminds me of a more grounded version of [name]Seraphina[/name]. Kind of as if the name [name]Seraphina[/name] grew up and matured into the less whimsical, more solid [name]Sophronia[/name].
It was my great grandmother’s middle name ([name]Mary[/name] [name]Sophronia[/name]). I would never use it because yes, I find it too weighty.
Nope, it’s fine to use, especially with the popularity of [name]Sophie[/name] at the moment. I like it when people go to the trouble of finding unusual names that’re genuinely names rather than lazily whacking together some random letters and calling them a name.
I find it too weighty and it doesn’t sound pleasant to my ears either! It has a bit of Disney villain or corporation name over it =/
Thanks for the thoughts, everyone. Anyone else?
I can see the appeal in the name [name]Sophronia[/name], but it does feel a bit too weighty. On the other hand, I love the sound of Sophronie! I don’t know if I would be brave enough to use it myself, but I would be delighted to meet a Sophronie. So, maybe that would be a less-weighty alternative? It seems like the difference between [name]Sylvia[/name] and [name]Sylvie[/name]. [name]Sophronia[/name]/[name]Sylvia[/name] sound more stuffy and fitting for a grown woman while Sophronie and [name]Sylvie[/name] are the best of both worlds in my mind because they mix the sophisticated elegance of the first two names with a little personality and spunk.
Also, I think there is a girl with a similar name in the sweet book series The Five [name]Little[/name] Peppers and they called her Fronsie.
[name]Hope[/name] that helps!
I’ve actually always liked it. Nickname Phronsie?
Better suited for a middle name.
I think it’s gorgeous [name]Sophie[/name] would probably be a decent nickname for it, or [name]Ronnie[/name] if she cares for something more androgynous.
