Sora?

My husband’s latest suggestion was [name_f]Sora[/name_f], which he says is from the Kingdom Hearts video game. I know little about it, so don’t know if it is positive or negative, or anything really. He said he wasn’t sold on it himself, but wanted to let me know…lol. Part of me likes it. It reminds me of [name_m]Soren[/name_m], which was another name I suggested awhile back, that DH oddly enough didn’t like.

What do you guys think? You can be honest. I’m fairly neutral on the name, so you won’t hurt anyone’s feelings

Also, what would you pair with it?

While I know that [name_f]Sora[/name_f] can be used for boys, I vastly prefer it on a girl. Also, since it’s a Japanese name, I would find it very odd on a child with no Japanese heritage or other connection to Japan.

Valid point! I think that was one of my hold ups, if I may be honest.

To be honest I think it would be strange to use a Japanese name if that’s not your heritage. Plus I’d think a lot of Westerners would assume it’s a girl’s name.

I would assume it was a girl’s name. I do like [name_m]Soren[/name_m].

I would think it was a variant of [name_f]Sarah[/name_f].

I love [name_f]Sora[/name_f], but I’d also think it was a girl.
I agree that [name_m]Soren[/name_m] is a much more handsome choice!

Is it something to do with rain? [name_m]Don[/name_m]’t know why but that’s what I think of…

Anyway, I like it a lot for a boy — much more so than for a girl. It feels cool and distinctive on a boy; blends in with [name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and [name_f]Sara[/name_f] and [name_f]Lara[/name_f] etc. for a girl.

But it’s very, very different from your other favourites and they’d make for a mismatched set [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. I also agree that it’s a bit odd to use a non-mainstream Japanese name if the heritage isn’t there (though I do know a little Italian-English S@yo, whose sister has a Nordic name).

I’m half Japanese and so when I hear [name_f]Sora[/name_f] (which means sky in Japanese) I think it sounds very feminine.

Quite similar to [name_f]Sara[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f], Sona - female names.

That being said, if you love it then go for it

I immediately thought of the town, [name_f]Sora[/name_f], in [name_f]Italy[/name_f], which is where my grandparents are from. I might be biased when I say this but I like the sound of this name. It’s different, yet familiar. As other posters pointed out, it’s very similar to [name_f]Sara[/name_f], and I’m also reminded of [name_f]Cora[/name_f].

It comes across as feminine to me, but I could see it working for a boy. You’re right about it being reminiscent of [name_m]Soren[/name_m]. There’s also [name_m]Sorell[/name_m], which you might like.

Some suggestions for middle names (I was inspired a bit by [name_m]Gallagher[/name_m] from your signature):
